Pink Floyd created the most interesting and original change in music by a country mile, sadly you had to go to one of their gigs for the full experience, as it was not just the sounds but also the sights they produced. Led Zep never conquered the world like the Beatles did in their time. John Bonham, Keith Moon, Dave Grohle, were never in the same league as Gene Krupa in my opinion.

Your original post woofy made me laugh out loud, a wonderful graphic picture, I'm still sniggering. In my opinion we do not need political leaders either here or in Europe, as much as we need economic efficiency equivalent to that found in China and India. Until we can compete with them we are getting poorer day by day unto bankruptcy. Dianne Abbott and all the others like her are an irrelevance until they start addressing that elephant in the house.

New Life created: Brave New World?
SteveT replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
silverfox wrote:- Hal9000, if scientists managed to recover Mammoth DNA from the permafrost of Siberia and implanted into an enucleated cell of an elephant which then divided and grew, what would the resultant animal be called? Polar Jumbo? A Chillyphant? This reminds me of the time when there was a big hoo-har creating nuclear fission in a tea-cup that turned out to be a big yawn. Until this new life form can be inserted into my computer memory, so that it can grow to the size necessary for one's needs rather than having to buy new, then it is all less useful than bullcrap to anyone with a compost heap. -
The next leader of the Labour Party (and other matters)

Marmora Man wrote:- The big question is surely HOW can we provide for the weaker etc etc? That puts politics in it's place, it does not matter greatly who is ruining, sorry running the country. Politics is irrelevant if you have no money to put any policies into action. Very few are asking HOW this may be done, and fewer are suggesting an answer. Anyone in business should be able to explain that, until we produce for the same cost and the same quality as China and India we will be in decline. As for politicians they are all superfluous to requirements until economic stability is assured. -
The last forty years I have spent in business, the first 12 years as a partner in retail outlets. I then started my own thing in the medical industry which I still do but on a greatly reduced level. Along the way have helped a few people start up in business and feel that I was always better at starting businesses than running them long term. I also have a partnership in a metal company run completely by my partner and his wife, and an interest in a powder coatings company. My greatest commercial disaster was in the mid 90's starting an internet company with the wrong man, whilst being computer illiterate, and I still am to this day.

Ideas for father's day presents wanted
SteveT replied to amydown's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The fathers day presents I have received from my eldest daughter is to spend a few hours doing something together, we have eaten on a ship on the thames, had the day in Kew gardens and another at RHS Wisley, went to the new-ish art gallery with the wobbly bridge, none of these presents cost the earth, but we do have memories of them all which would not be the case of a gift. -

Dulwich Baths - refurbishment timetable

The longer it's closed the better off Southwark council are. No running costs. I hope they have large signs "SHOWER BEFORE ENTRY" "ANYONE URINATING IN THE POOL WILL BE SPEYED" "SWIMMING HATS MUST BE WORN" -

eater81 wrote:- In a filthy cess pit such as London, teeming with the shady undercurrents of a society gone horibly wrong, such incidents are inevitable. ?300,000 to buy a crappy 2 bed flat, and you still need to watch your back every time you leave the house. Say's it all. Give it to us straight from the shoulder eater81 no need to pretty it up we want your best shot..... I agree with you there are cess pit areas in London and some of the pits are not far from here, but the most important are the people. If you have thieves and hooligans aplenty you have to watch your back, the fact is you only need one which we have seen in one of the cleanest, free from the cess pits in cumbria, one man two guns and an attitude and the result is 12 dead innocent people. I loathe theft in any form and I hope the scumbags perpetrating the recent crimes are caught and paid out in full, they usually are eventually, and this forum has been an asset to the local police, and the more people like you tell it how it is and include the most accurate descriptions of these thieving low lifes, the better off we will all be. Some cranky forumista's complain but the majority think accurate descriptions including race and colour are advantageous to the cause. With regard to the 300k for a broken down stable or shed in the middle of scumtown, that is the price you pay for living in an area where you are most likely to earn a reasonable living, and hopefully to finally buy ones own with consistency of earning year on year. Nobody is holding a gun to your head to stay here, you can leave and move into a crack house area in Manchester Liverpool or Glasgow cheaply enough but the facts are you cannot earn as consistently and you do not get the option of potential earnings as you do here. :)) you made me laugh out loud with your brilliant description eater81, full marks! -

I do not believe they are taxing it for the benefit of the health of the populace, the government have found a way to fill their coffers, with a nod towards health benefits as a cover. Perhaps they might fill their coffers by taxing expenses, or fining MP's double the amount they defrauded the country by. -
Another blunder by your parents allowing you to procreate. We like to call a speyed, a spade.

What to buy a 13-year old boy: BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE
SteveT replied to Ladymuck's topic in The Family Room Discussion
A small swiss army knife to sharpen his pencils. An led torch which can generate it's own electricity by winding it up. A kite. Take him to Launch pad in the science museum, and call in to the shop on the way out, which has all sorts of interesting stuff. A watch. A mouth organ if he has any musical aptitude. A trip to camden lock to select something from a stall without his parents, so he can choose it for himself. A thirteen year old girl would be a really cool present. -
I dug up a length of lawn to make room for a late crop of peas, but before planting I have sprinkled lime pellets over it, it has not been turned over for years. I shall wait for the expected thundery downpour to reach the parts other lime pellets cannot reach. I have a thornless blackberry in flower and the bees love it, so I guess it gives out lots of nectar, when I was tying it back they were getting really buzzy warning me off not to disturb them, so I left them to it.

American Robin wrote:- What's going on with this use of the word "bitch" ? Post-feminism ? I think not. Please stop. It is offensive. find the word used casually really offensive. PGC has succinctly explained the position in her post. Offensive or not the correct terminology for the female species of dog is the word "bitch" and if you don't like it, take it up with the producers of the Oxford English dictionary. I think you have a brass neck to come here with the affrontary, the gaul, the audacity, the irony of a foreign national telling me how I should phrase my native language in my own country, to coin a phrase of another erudite lady forumista "how very dare you". American Robin stop your bitching, if you do not like what is posted, stop reading it, you surely do not expect to change everyone to adhere to your inaccurate rules of prose.

I think probate really takes the biscuit, you have never seen the other side of your relatives until the spoils of the will is fought over. It changes your mind about people, forever!
