  1. Use the Ofsted website, put in your postcode and select the type of provision, nursery, primary etc. You will then see a list, starting with the closest first.
  2. Imperial China on Lisle Street for Dim Sum.
  3. Google 'The Spin Doctor' Lots of recommendations on here.
  4. Yep, delays and cancellations all morning on Southern. Yesterday it took me an hour to get from Goose Green to Kennington on the bus. In complete agreement DulwichLondoner.
  5. Captured on the Rye get lots of recommendations on here, they do screen printing parties for kids. I imagine a group of 12 year olds would enjoy designing and printing their own T shirt? Not so local, but quick and easy from Peckham Rye overground, All Star Lanes in Shoreditch is a great bowling venue.
  6. Unfortunately during the years of austerity, Lambeth Council has turned to Brockwell Park as a source of revenue. I share the OP's concerns, such a lovely green space should be for all to enjoy, and I'm very much opposed to chunks of it being out of bounds for festivals etc. Never got to grips with who is held to account over the damage and vandalism that sometimes occurs. The memorial benches that were removed by Sunfall have not yet been replaced, must be really upsetting for the relatives concerned. Have noticed how Lambeth's parks have really gone downhill over recent years. I walk through Ruskin and Kennington Parks on my way to work every week, and visit Brockwell at least once a month. Virtually no planting in the flower beds, rubbish overflowing in the bins for days before removal. Very low down the priority list these days. Southwark in comparison, are doing a much better job at looking after their green spaces.
  7. A neighbour in my block was also burgled last night. Similar circumstances, accessed the flat via the first floor balcony. Totally agree Pollypops, we can't assume that being higher up affords any protection. We also live in a so called gated community, which tends to gives a false sense of security.
  8. I think I'm in agreement with the OP. Flea treatment and 1 worming pill for our cat - ?47 5 min consultation and an unnecessary anti sickness injection - ?56 I know as a cat owner I have to factor in vet visits, it's part of the deal when keeping a pet, but the costs are a bit hefty.
  9. We went in October half-term two years ago, it was very very crowded, more so than a summer holiday day. The queues to exit the site at the end of the day were horrendous. But it is a great day out, so take a deep breath and go for it! Get there super early, as soon as the gates open, then make your way over to the rides that you think your daughter will prefer, hopefully before the queues really build up. You can look online, check out the maps and make a plan. Of course there is the priority q bot system, which I've never used, but after the last visit, where we queued for an hour plus for everything, I reckon it's probably worth it. You'll get very wet on some of the rides, so take waterproofs, and definitely a packed lunch.
  10. The manager's comments on Trip Advisor are hilarious, a bit Teresa Mayish. Whatever people say, he just gives them the same stock response and never addresses the specific issue!
  11. When we went through the process 2 years ago, some schools asked children to sit banding tests, these were non verbal reasoning papers. My understanding was that this was to ensure a fair intake of children across all abilities. My son had to do this for Kingsdale & Askes, but the other schools on our list didn't use this system - Deptford Green, Forest Hill, Elmgreen and St Thomas the Apostle. Then there was another set of baseline tests for the school he eventually went to, these were done in the Summer term. When it came to putting him in sets according to ability, the school assessed all students at half-term to do this, but his Year 7 targets were apparently based on his Year 6 SATS, all a bit confusing.
  12. I thought it was always part of Terroir. Agree that there was a little bit of a dip with the food a couple of years ago, but I've been a few times recently and really enjoyed it.
  13. This morning I saw a member of staff at the Mind shop throwing bags of items straight into the back of the bin lorry. Now I'm aware that people leave stuff on the doorstep, which then gets ruined by the rain and can't be sold, so I'm not jumping to just the one conclusion. But I suspect some less desirable donations do end up in landfill and aren't recycled. Now I don't know if this is because the shops can't manage the volume, are inefficient/wasteful, or is it because too many folks donate any old rubbish, which has to end up somewhere.
  14. Have you looked at the Elmgreen School in West Norwood, it would be a short bus (68) ride from Herne Hill. If you live very close to Charter North Dulwich, then I assume you would be near the top of their waiting list for in year admissions, so could be lucky over the next couple of weeks.
  15. Fantastic head teacher at St Saviours, definitely worth a look.
  16. My soon to be Year 8 child is really keen to learn German, however the school only offers French and Spanish. Wondering if anyone has any experience of doing this successfully, using a tutor/online resources? Is it bonkers to even try, given the usual demands of the secondary school curriculum!?
  17. It's lovely, just get there early and leave before it gets too crowded. Only issue I've had is the lack of shade on very hot days, not great for very small children.
