  1. the fish section of the new Poisson de Mer deli in Dulwich Village is now open --- good looking fish and a delightful owner who sadly has had months of problems with his shop fittings. Worth a visit.
  2. My point is that the parking problem is spreading into the surrounding areas of the village anyway, a measure like a double yellow line in Gallery Road might be deemed necessary for safety reasons, but this decision should only be taken after a consideration of parking in other roads. If you start regulating parking in the village there would be a 'knock-on' effect which could not be ignored. I know that people dread a CPZ, but I have lived in an area where, after much discussion, one was introduced, and it did result in a reasonable balance between the interests of residents and visitors.
  3. Sadly this is only one example of how parking is becoming more and more difficult in the village area. Putting a double yellow line along one side of Gallery Road will only spread the parking problem elsewhere locally. Plans are being considered to restrict some of the parking in the village proper to one hour only as a help to the shops. This is going to drive the cars which usually occupy these spaces all day, further out along the local side roads as well as Gallery Road. Maybe there should be a consultation about a Controlled Parking Zone in the whole area, this seems to me the only way to apportion space reasonably between conflicting interests.
  4. Thanks Sue, for some unknown reason my thread was swiftly moved to the lounge, so it was clever of you to pick it up. I missed a Monday brown bin collection and I have made two phone calls and one report on line, [ as well as an unacknowledged email to the relevant department ] I have pretty well given up and hope not to be missed next Monday. Meanwhile I am leaving my bin on the pavement just in case they do turn up tomorrow ---- I do have a few brown bags but the local foxes are prone to dismantle them in the night, which is even more antisocial than having my bin on the pavement all the time. Very annoying as I had planned to clear the garden a bit at the weekend.
  5. my brown bin was missed last Monday morning, after lunch on Monday I filled in the appropriate form on line, and I have since then twice phoned the appropriate number. I have also sent an email, which has not been acknowledged. Still my brown bin waits to be emptied. I really would like it to be emptied for the weekend as I hope to do some clearance in the garden --- does anyone out there know the name and phone number of someone in authority within the relevant part of Southwark Council who could arrange for my bin to be emptied tomorrow?
  6. I gather from a M&S blog which I found last night that I am not the only Mother/Granny not to receive their Mothers' Day flowers yesterday. I was in all day but none were delivered. I only discovered that some flowers had been ordered when one of my children phoned last night and asked if I had liked the flowers! I am not sure if this was a local or a national failure, but I am writing here in case there are others locally who think that they were forgotten! it is difficult to ask 'where are my flowers' isn't it! Very sad as one depends on M&S for a reliable service.
  7. Sharp works, the yarn shop at Herne Hill, runs occasional crochet classes, it looks from their web site that the one that starts this Thursday still has places, if you can't make it I think that Susan runs a waiting list for next time.
  8. In reply to Louisa [ where will we park ] I live in the area of Dulwich Village and the fact is that very few people that I know try to park around Lordship Lane, so if we are lucky enough to get an M&S I will get off the bus and shop in Lordship Lane on the way home rather than stopping in the Walworth Road or coming home via the M&S in Brixton.
  9. I don't think that anyone would wish to exclude dogs from the park; it is all a question of how best to share the space. The fenced toddler area is great for physical exercise, but not for the exercise of the imagination. Unlike dogs, children need both of these things, and I find it astonishing and depressing that people think that a small fenced area of swings etc is all that toddlers need. I had great times walking from the car park to the toddler area with my elder grand-daughter who is now at school. She used to wander at will finding flowers, looking for squirrels, playing hide and seek etc --- none of these kind of activities work in the toddler area and they are now excluded on the route by the proliferation of offlead dogs. Surely it is reasonable to expect dog owners to keep their dogs on their leads along the path from the car park past the cafe [ and including the seating area there ] and on to the toddler area.
  10. I've never had a problem keeping a toddler away from a cycle track in Dulwich Park and the roads are pretty safe if you keep an eye open; it is the random behaviour of the dog population which causes concern as it is impossible to predict events and therefore protect the child.
  11. Very interested in this discussion as I take my small grandchild to Dulwich Park sometinmes and I have noticed that there are now very few dogs on leads ---- I asked an owner why today and was told, as has been set out above, that the dog free areas no longer exist as the notices were successfully challanged by a cohort of dog owners. Even the area round the cafe was this morning over-run with free range dogs, I suspect that word had got around among dog owners who are coming to the Park to enjoy their new freedom. I do understand that most dogs are safe round children but fear to meet the exception. Are those of us who want to access the park with snall children going to get excluded by dogs and their owners. Who is more importan to society, dogs or children?
  12. So sorry about your dog; could anyone let me know about this off-lead area? I thought that it used to be on the far side of the park near the Court Lane gate, and now the route to the car park from the cafe is often full of dogs without leads --- quite legitimate but a hazard if you have a small child and are trying to rejoin your car. I know that most dogs are safe, but it only takes one etc. Has the area in which dogs can run without a lead been changed?
  13. Does anyone know when the council is going to make a decision about this planning application?
  14. Thank you, James, for your prompt reply, hoping for the best .............
  15. Does anyone know when there is to be a decision on this planning application?

I am surprised by this as I think that the Waitrose website has been up and running for some months and I had expected it to be glitch free by now. Also the slots offered by Waitrose are not only longer but much more limited than Ocado which will deliver earlier and later in the day than Waitrose. I have found Ocado to be very satisfactory, the only snag is the charge. Reluctantly I have decided to renew my annual payment for 'free' delivery with Ocado, which I had hoped to avoid this year.
  17. Also Karavan, the eco shop at 167 Lordship Lane, have a good selection of decent looking little bins.
  18. while evaluating this route, does anyone know, or could I ask James to find out, please, why the shelter and annunciator for the 37 bus outside Lloyds Bank in Brixton have been removed? At least one used to be able to judge whether to make for the P4 to North Dulwich station, or at worst wait under cover knowing when the bus was likely to appear.
