Crikey I feel like a real meanie - I HATE party bags and the whole idea of them, at my daughters recent party the kids had treasure chest food boxes, with a couple of treasures inside along with their party food, kids still formed a queue at the end for their party bags and were disappointed when there wasn't anything more than a piece of cake! I'm pretty worried about a precedence of them being handed out at school too - wouldn't even have occurred to me (she doesn't start till September) - 30 bags of tat amounting to a minimum of ?60 just seems ridiculous to me and grossly unfair on those parents who can't/don't want to spend their money that way........ a token treat I can accept, but not the expensive landfill tat. Sorry to be a big ol' crank.

Sickened by the amount of dog poo in the streets of ED

Me and Mr KM1 were commenting just this evening how the 'action group' (big thank you owed to you Mr PandG) seems to have worked, we've gone from a poo slalom to relatively faeces-free street, fabulous! -

Verona Hall was my midwife and I couldn't recommend her more highly, an excellent midwife, a truely wonderful woman and still now 4 years on a very good friend. Verona is local, and was on hand for us at any time of day - if you'd like to chat about anything inmore detail feel free to PM me and I'll give you my number. All the best xx -

Directions to Mother Goose, Green Dale...
kristymac1 replied to EmmaDoran's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our daughter goes to MG Greendale and from East Dulwich station cut through the Sainsbirys carpark and to the right of the cash machines there's a set of steps, go up these and follow them to the left and you'll come out in the middle of the estate. Turn left then right, past the pub and turn left, you're at the nursery. Takes about 10mins max from ED station xx -
our cats are out and about far more now that the weather is warming up - a lot of cats wander and do eventually find their way back home (one of ours went missing for well over a week a few years ago) - doesn't stop the worry but it's an occupational hazard of being a cat owner....x

The only way we've ever been able to get medicine into our daughter is mixing with a 'shot' of smoothie - its about the only thing which will hide the taste of medicine (antibiotics in particular) - syringes have never worked 0 she either spits it out or vomits straight after. Suppository paracetamol is also an option instead of Calpol - not a pleasant thing to have to do but it is very effective - ask at the docs for a prescription though as to buy them over the counter is hideously expensive (around ?20 for half a dozen child sized doses if my memory serves me right. Good luck and hope your little one recovers soon x

pebbles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm pretty sure all nurses do them - you just have > to book a double appointment. I'm not sure this is the case - in my experianece its always a doctor or a specially qualified nurse who has fitted mine (and I've had a few fitted and removed over the last good few years). You can book an appointment at DMC, Peckham Pulse run a Thursday clinic and the doctors are really nice at both of these - I had awful experience with a particular doctor at Townley Road so refused to go there in the last couple of years

Once the nursery is > open, what's to stop it extending its hours or > opening at weekends? Will you still be able to > enjoy your garden? I really don't think you'll be bothered by noisy children 11 hours a day - we live opposite a primary school and even at break time, the noise is absolutely fine (and there are a lot more than 30 kids running around) - our daughter goes to a reasonable size nursery (probably around 30 kids) and having spent a fair amount of time there during her settling in period I can tell you it really isn't a noisy place. Children at nursery are engaged in learning through structured play, they're not allowed/encouraged to run around feral and banshee-like..... As for opening for more hours and at the weekend, I'd say this is very unlikely (especially the weekend thing). It's easy for me to say I guess as I'm more than a stone's throw from Amott, but I wouldn't have any objections to a nursery (which is a much needed service in ED) opening on my road.

We love Emma Chichester Clark - her books are gentle and kind with humour, particularly the Melrose and Croc series (about a dog and a crocodile who are best friends) and the Lily and the blue kangaroo series - all lovely stories and art-work.....

My daughter (nearly 4) had a horrible night time cough for weeks (actually months) from Oct/Nov last year, she was diagnosed with asthma, I was a little alarmed at the quickness to diagnose (the night-time cough being the only symptom), she takes an inhaler morning and night and the cough has completely gone - it may be worth a rip to the GPs if it continues for a period of time. We also use an extra pillow and a humidifier in her room which seems to make her more comfortable

Fitting three child seats in back of car?
kristymac1 replied to Mellors's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, We have a Zafira and I can get 3 seats in the back of ours (combination of 3 toddler seats - which are the widest - pretty snug, and more comfortably 2 boosters with backs and a toddler seat) - takes a bit of jigging but they fit fine and safe. -
yep, I was waiting for the train, feeling particularly fortunate that the one train which wasn't cancelled this morning was mine - driver then overshot the platform and stopped in the tunnel - genius........

I bought some of these mats from Molly a year or so ago (when my daughter was almost dry in the night but had the odd accident), I'd really recommend them, they're really soft and comfortable and much more value for money than disposable versions (and much mre comfy/'uncrinkly'). Good luck x

Addison Lee not doing car seats anymore
kristymac1 replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Clockwork cars (if you google them they're beckenham based but have drivers all over) also no longer do car seats, although they did used to provide the service whereby they would hold on to your own car seat for you and ensure it was used for the return journey - not sure if they still do that, but worth a call to them I think - they are comparable with Addison Lee in terms of quality (and price) -
someone mentioned the term 'threenager' to me when I said we'd seemed to have had an easy(ish) ride through the terrible twos......... Having survived the 'threenagers' (just and only just) I am looking forward to having a lovely polite, compliant and affable four year old in a few weeks time - cloud cuckoo land? me?

I have met some resistance from GPs to prescribe suppositories, but it really is just a cultural thing - many countries on the continent use suppositories as their main method of giving medication. It's just unfortunate that antibiotics can't be administered this way.....

My DD is an absolute b*gger for taking medicine (in that she wont. Ever). Last week she was given antibiotics (my ultimate nightmare), however we've managed to get the whole course into her, drama free, by adding it to strawberry smoothie - not much as it disguises the taste reall really well and then we play 'smoothie moustaches' until its all gone - brilliant!

Congratulations! what a marathon - hope all are well and getting some (very well earned) rest! x

Hello lovey, IMO you should put your closest school first (Goodrich?) and then list the rest in your preference of where you want big-mini C to go....... x -
bus up to victoria and then district line along to south ken - the science museum is fabulous for 3-yr olds, they can spend the whole morning in the garden basement (lots of water play, pully systems, funny mirrors) and then up to the pattern area not too far from the restaurant - it's really very lovely!
