We recently had all of our garden fences painted by Steve. He gave a very reasonable quote, turned up as arranged and worked solidly with his partner for a couple of days. Professional, polite, thoroughly nice guy - definitely recommended! He also does garden work (hard landscaping mostly I think) and we will be asking him to quote for that in the next few weeks too.

Tooth fairy - what's the going rate?
kristymac1 replied to cazza's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Tooth fairy left a pound under daughter's pillow last night, definitely have heard of more being left but I reckon our tooth fairy is pretty fair and ;-) tbh our daughter is more excited by the letter left.by the tooth fairy than the cash -clearly that will change, but for now... -
We use a humidifier every time our 5yr old has a cough and it does work - at least in terms of soothing. Never had a problem with peeling paint and as it's actually water vapour rather than steam, never a problem with heat either. Good luck

'Easier' birth second time round - for how long?
kristymac1 replied to Fmm's topic in The Family Room Discussion
5.5 yrs between mine - first time round 5 hours at home, 2nd degree tear, second time round was a 30minute labour and birth in the back of our car (:-0), no tear.... I did however slip a disc which was agony (back seats of cars dont offer the best birthing position ;-/).... -
Any one have little ones with hand, foot and mouth?
kristymac1 replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can you use something like anbesol? It's great for ulcers, teething gums etc and definitely comes in child form. My daughter had it and it's pretty grim for them (and us - highly contagious:-( ) -
Captured on the Rye - recommended

I went for a rare weekday coffee with the hubbie earlier this week and it's a really lovely space, run very much as a family business, great coffee (didn't sample the cake - this time;-) ). I much prefer it to Jacks, much more airy and mellow and a little more room to sit in the front. I wish them all the best and hope to visit again soon (they also do a loyalty card thingy, buy 8 coffees get 2 free!) -
Breastfeeding Advice Please!
kristymac1 replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'd say take the formula (you can get ready mixed aptamil newborn which is sterile so you only need take a couple of sterile bottles and not worry about faffing with cooled boiled water etc). As an aside, I exclusively breastfed my daughter but for various reasons my son is bottle fed - there are pros and cons to both and whilst initially a bit sad about not breastfeeding my son, I certainly don't lose sleep over it and he is thriving! Anything.g which reduced any anxiety preparing for labour is a good thing, althowould say the best plan is not to be too fixed to your plan, once those contractions start you're in the hands of your baby;-) Lots of luck and all the very best for the next few Weeks x -
I'm with eden (formally accor) and those vouchers (online anyway) dont expire. I think its really unfair for those that do - do you lose the money you have salary sacrificed or do they repay you minus the tax?

The 2012 Olympic Barry Barry Road Race
kristymac1 replied to surfbobby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well done all, couldn't participate this year as had impending arrival of new baby 2 days after. I love the request from MS Society for 'photographs of training' - definitely one for their next campaign! x -
Need to get photo printed fast!
kristymac1 replied to DVnewbie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The one on Lordship lane is has closed down due to rent increase - save you the trip down there. Try to locate the nearest Boots? the bigger stores have on the spot photo processing. -
I think there's a family planning clinic in camberwell - just down from Kings. From memory it's a stay and wait place and the waits are pretty long (I never waited it out!)
-
I also heard that an ice-cream shop was moving onto the Lane, my info was a bit more vague in terms of location though.....

there is likely to be a 'spring babies 2013' thread started here on the forum - if it hasn't been set up yet, the family room administrator will undoubtedly be on to it soon!

We have never received any formal uniform list from the school and our daughter has just gone into yr 1. I have no problem with a strict uniform but it seems totally unreasonable to only communicate this after she has been at the school a year already and never has an issue been raised about her wearing a plain polo short and navy cardigan. As far as packed lunches are concerned, I wonder of along with no 'rubbish' in packed lunches (which I agree with btw), they'll remove cake/custard from the school dinners menu every day?
-
The only info I got from my daughter (albeit yr 1 so 'info' used in the loosest sense) is that there's no jewelry and no trainers. December would seem a strange/unfair time to change the uniform in a major way, surely if major changes are afoot, they'll wait till the start of the new academic year - or risk certain, justifiable uproar from the parents on the grounds of cost surely??

Well now that my eldest is firmly back in the throws of education, and I am no-longer at the mercy of summer holiday 'entertainment', it would be really good to meet for a coffee and/or (power - ha!) walk in the park with our newbies - does anyone fancy making a date for next week? Hope everyone is doing really well and getting bundles more sleep than we are ;-) Kristy xx

Key camp/euro camp holidays vs package hol
kristymac1 replied to wonderwoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi, we did la bien assise last June with a 4 yr old and a 14 yr old. very easy to get to, 20 min drive from eurotunnel. The site is small but pretty, facilities nice and clean and some pretty villages snot too far if you do want to venture out. We only went for long weekend and stayed in a rent, if we went back I'd opt for caravan (tent was a bit tenko like). The pools are nice, small but nice. We booked with Eurocamp and had no , the staff we're always on hand and very friendly
