Lovely blog post about body image after pregnancy
kristymac1 replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
that made me very emotional, what a lovely relevant piece x -
We took our daughter out for a couple of days (from Heber) for a much needed family holiday after a number of traumatic events last year. We briefly explained our reasoning in the request to the school (not giving any specific details) and the absence was authorised by the head. Even if it had been recorded as unauthorised we would have still gone and not lost any sleep about it, sometimes family time is more important....

I've never understood the argument about conviction in ones belief to be admired. I can think of a number of historical figures who had total conviction in their own beliefs but their actions based on those beliefs we're anything but admirable......

Travel between Guys and St Thomas
kristymac1 replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Its definitely not just used for staff, I think they just refer to it as 'the staff bus', I've used it and it was difficult to tell who was staff and who were patients. You may have to wait up to 20minutes for it though.... -
living across the road from a primary school
kristymac1 replied to nikki73's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Until fairly recently we lived opposite Heber school (on the Jennings Road side), no problems at all with cars/parking - there are a few more cars of course, but given you have to live within spitting distance of most primary schools to get in, most people walk to school rather than drive. I also used to love hearing the kids playing out at playtime - happy sounds! The only time we would get 'disturbed' was following the annual parent disco - shameful behaviour ;-) ... -
Definitely the ikea one - has stood much use/abuse over the last 3 or 4 years and still a firm favourite. Additional rolls of paper cheap from ikea too

Still same staff and decent menu on offer, we like it in there, unpretentious, fairly prices and nice staff and decent food

They've also withdrawn sale of their weiners, apparently their is no evidence of horsemeat (unlike the meatballs) but they have been withdrawn as a precaution as they come from same Swedish supplier - as receieved in email from ikea earlier today....

60ft is totally manageable once it's in a manageable state, if that makes any sense:-\ . It took me 10yrs to get my 25ft garden the way I wanted it, and it'll be at least that again with this new one I reckon - depends if you like 'instant gardening' (and the funds to buy big mature plants), we don't but I kinda like the non-instant variety anyway...
-
Our previous garden was 25/30 ft long, so 60 is an absolute luxury for us too (and also a little daunting:-/)!
-
It really does depend on the size of the garden, ours is around 60ft (so not massive) and is north facing. We have sun directly at the back of the house from morning to early afternoon and then it moves towards back of garden for evening sun. I was nervous moving from a south facing garden to this one, but honestly I find it better - with two children the south facing garden was too hot to play in on some summer days where-as now there is always some shade to play in. Good luck!

Forest Hill Road/Colyton Road Roadworks
kristymac1 replied to Renata Hamvas's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think this is a good thing - use that junction numerous times throughout the day (both as pedestrian and driver) and the current set up seems to work. Hopefully short term disruption for long term gain... -
just wanted to give a shout for the bread of life cafe at the bottom (top?) Of Barry road. It's utterly unpretentious, serves decent enough coffee., has a welcoming play area for little ones and the staff are very accommodating. It never seems to be that busy though and I often wonder if folk know it's there....

We recently had all of our garden fences painted by Steve. He gave a very reasonable quote, turned up as arranged and worked solidly with his partner for a couple of days. Professional, polite, thoroughly nice guy - definitely recommended! He also does garden work (hard landscaping mostly I think) and we will be asking him to quote for that in the next few weeks too.

Tooth fairy - what's the going rate?
kristymac1 replied to cazza's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Tooth fairy left a pound under daughter's pillow last night, definitely have heard of more being left but I reckon our tooth fairy is pretty fair and ;-) tbh our daughter is more excited by the letter left.by the tooth fairy than the cash -clearly that will change, but for now... -
We use a humidifier every time our 5yr old has a cough and it does work - at least in terms of soothing. Never had a problem with peeling paint and as it's actually water vapour rather than steam, never a problem with heat either. Good luck

'Easier' birth second time round - for how long?
kristymac1 replied to Fmm's topic in The Family Room Discussion
5.5 yrs between mine - first time round 5 hours at home, 2nd degree tear, second time round was a 30minute labour and birth in the back of our car (:-0), no tear.... I did however slip a disc which was agony (back seats of cars dont offer the best birthing position ;-/).... -
Any one have little ones with hand, foot and mouth?
kristymac1 replied to WorkingMummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can you use something like anbesol? It's great for ulcers, teething gums etc and definitely comes in child form. My daughter had it and it's pretty grim for them (and us - highly contagious:-( ) -
Captured on the Rye - recommended
kristymac1 replied to Pickle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went for a rare weekday coffee with the hubbie earlier this week and it's a really lovely space, run very much as a family business, great coffee (didn't sample the cake - this time;-) ). I much prefer it to Jacks, much more airy and mellow and a little more room to sit in the front. I wish them all the best and hope to visit again soon (they also do a loyalty card thingy, buy 8 coffees get 2 free!)
