Loads of legit charities go door to door...... I signed up to a dd with the Kings College charity trust, definitely a legitimate charity. My husband was a bit perplexed that a hospital was having to go door-to-door for charitable contributions, but I see no difference between that and the cancer research/child welfare/homeless etc charities which all, in an ideal world, shouldn't have to rely on charitable contributions, but alas that is the economic priority world we live in....
  2. I weaned my daughter at 4 months and went through major ups and downs (many more downs it felt at the time) in terms of it being a happy experience - she used to vomit a lot - and there was always something which knocked her off her stride - teething/cold/numerous viruses. Anyhoo, fast forward 4 years (first day of school today!) and she is a great eater and will try practically anything. If I was to do the whole thing again, I'd definitely not worry so much (my hindsight is 20:20 obviously) I'sd still introduce her to the wide variety of food but I'd enjoy the times she did want to eat and not 'persevere' (which used to have me in tears sometimes...) when she didn't fancy it. Like I said, the benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I certainly remember the my utter dread of mealtimes and I really feel for you x
  3. Hooray! Doing victory dance in your honour :))
  4. Thanks everyone - really appreciate the info!
  5. Thinking of heading out for the October half term, and would be very grateful if any of you lovely people could give me some pointers on areas to stay with a young family (daughter of 4) and just as important places definitely to avoid! Thanks xx

Mindless violence, detsroying homes, businesses and lives - I struggle to find a justifiable context to that.......
  7. Hi, We had these for our daughter- they are pretty good although did restrict her actual swimming - personally I think the swim vests (the ones which you can remove inner floats gradually) are better than arm bands/ arm floats......
  8. Hi, Have just dug out my letter and it says: All children NOT from heber nursery will start Wednesday 7 Sept - Friday 9 September; start of day 8:55am up to 12 noon All children from Heber nursery will start on Monday 12 Sept - Friday 16 September; start of day 8:55am to 1.00pm All children will stay for lunch from 12 Sept and to be collected at 1.00pm From Monday 19th September all children will be full tim, starting school at 8:55am. The school day ends at 3.20pm. Hope that helps, see you at the school gates!
  9. Hi Claire, its 7th Sept (9am - midday) for those children who haven't been attending Heber nursery and then 12th Sept (9am - 1pm) for all reception children, then as from 19th Sept they start full days - 8:55 - 15:20.
  10. Ok, think I have uploaded to photobox so all can view - do let me know if I've mucked that up too...... Barry Barry photobox

  12. Ah nuts - thought I'd set it for all to see - there's even a video! I'm a bit of a luddite tbh so will try to figure it out......
  13. Well done everyone yesterday - great day and fab news about the cash for MS society. Photos on my facebook page photos BBRR(I couldn't upload to the Barry Barry roadrace fb page for some reason). Lemmy, you're my favourite..........
  14. My little one is 4 and we do 1-2-1 swimming lessons and have recently started a great gym class. We did start ballet (at the fab Theatre Peckham) last year, but after a few classes it was clear that at that age an hour was too long and she was not enjoying it so we stopped. We'll try anything (she wants to be a skateboarder apparently?) and provided she enjoys it then we continue, time (and money!) is too precious to 'encourage' her to continue with things she's just not happy/fussed about. At the moment, I think 2 structured activities a week is plenty, leaving plenty of time for random bike rides, park visits and bl*$dy gambados - perhaps after school starts she may want to do more......
  15. I will admit to being totally biased here (The owner of Little Jungle is a good friend), but that aside, the nursery is a really lovely space and the children appear to be thriving, my daughter is just about to start school but if the timings had been right I'd have had no hesitation putting her into Little Jungle (she was happily settled elsewhere before LJ opened) - I do know other children there and they are very very happy. Caroline (tintin on here) is a lovely woman with two pre-schoolers herself (who attend the nursery) with very high standards which are evident. As I said, I'm biased but maybe get in touch with Caroline for a chat. Good luck, I do know the whole nursery thing is an emotional minefield xx
  16. Back to the original post; dreadful, awful news - hearts go out to the families of those young boys.....
  17. Our 4 yr old is currently having one to one sessions at Beckenham Spa, she could swim before we enrolled her but needed lessons in 'technique' -ie, she was exhausted after swimming a short distance. She's only had 4 lessons but has come on brilliantly - her teacher is lovely, very geared towards little ones - last week she swam a whole length of the big pool without any support/aids! I'd definitely recommend Beckenham Spa. Good luck x
  18. I'd still go on their waiting list - my friend recently told me they'd phones her to ask whether she still wanted the place for her daughter - she's been at school for the past year! So there's probably an awful lot of people on the waiting list who are either no longer of nursery age or have settled elsewhere. Good luck!
  19. anyone else hate it when they come in on a discussion and realise they've missed the 'good bit'?? :))

  21. Hi ed_pete - the measuring distance changed recently from 'safe walking distance' to 'as the crow flies' so may is a good indication.
  22. Hi, I've taken my daughter, pretty much every week, from 6 weeks old (she's 4yrs now), the hydrotherapy pools at Peckham Pulse and beckenham Spa are perfect. It was, and still is, her favourite thing to do. Good Luck and have fun x
  23. new mother Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Children's parties are expensive but > they only have one birthday a year and they will > always remember it. It is not much when you > consider how much we all spend on eg a night out, > surely? Depends on your budget I guess and how much thought and expense has already been put into the party, I would hope that the kids went away from a party fun-filled and happy, with all the happy memories of the party itself- I'm yet to be convinced how party bags, or lack of them could change a little one's enjoyment.......
