  1. I think that you guys have very little understanding of America or the American psyche if you can't grasp this. It is fundamental to many Americans.
  2. As I seem to have to spell it out to sj and bng I,ll make it clear . I think their gun laws are potty personally BUT I do understand the sanctity of that part of their constitution to many US citizens for the reasons I pointed out. AM many US citizens to argue that very point that freedom to bear arms IS worth 12000 deaths a year...as mad as tht seems to many over here.
  3. StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Im pretty sure that Gil meant that as a criticism, > not as a call to accept a status quo Er, no shit Sherlock? You thought I thought he was defending it??????
  4. I am not an American but given that at the time of the drafting of their constitution the fact that citizens had been able to bear arms meant that they had been able to rise up and overthrow their oppressors means that I can understand how this is of fundamental symbolic and actual importance to them however flawed that logic can appear to us. I'm with Gil Scot Heron - Freedom to be afraid is all you've got
  5. Well all my bets made the cut (even Watney)! Woods looking good but Stricker and Donald still in play too.

  9. anyway, I am looking forward to seeing the LSE/Guardian 'Research' on the riots to see if there's an option for "why I rioted" of "because I am a semi-feral, uneducated, irresponsible, opportunistic criminal" alongside the "Tory Cuts", "Police brutality", "No table Tennis Table in the youth Centre" etc options
  10. yup.
  11. ...or maybe just the BBC/Guardian (lefty) viewpoint that everything that happens in the world should firstly be viewed as some sort some sort of rightwing conspiracy. As per, the answer is normally far more obvious.
  12. The Open without wind? The course has got its trousers down and is bending over. Tiger looking very worrying highest % of hitting the fairway yesterday....got a few quid on him :)
  13. Even our Saffa's weren't as good as Cooky :)

  16. Ahh, Maxi the T&C, good days (Wendy May on Fridays?) but I think it's The Forum or summfink now.
  17. A long, long, time a go, standing on an upturned crate in a field in Essex surrounded by nettles that were taller than us, on an urge that I can still recall almost totally, I pushed my friend Jamie ***** into them. I felt and still feel awful, he screamed and it went down with our mums as one of those 'accidents' between 5 year old boys. It wasn't, I wanted to see what happened and I deliberately pushed him from behind. I still, even today, feel guilty. He's 6'2"+ now and would knock 7 shades out off me with one hand.
  18. El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > True. The Phoenix and the Plough are better than > their previous incarnations too. ..which is ironic, because in their incarnations before those they were...The Pheonix* and The Plough *and Firkin
  19. Nightclubs.....but I think it's just me
  20. Inspired a bit by Snorks 1) Greenwich Market - all chains, tourists and tourist tat in the market compared to all the loads of different areas/markets back in the day 2) Shoreditch/Old Street - twats with beards and Essex boys, used to be fun up there 3) Upton Park - generally far quieter, just a pitiful handfull of songs, er somewhat safer for visitors 4)The EDF
  21. fazer = classic passive-aggressive middle class warrior who is genuinely worried about his ability in the sack becuase he doesn't know how to use a hammer properly...nice as pie to the many builders he has hired over the years in his role as worldly property developer...
  22. fazer = man whose ex ran off with Polish builder
  23. Given that it's a novel I suspect it's just poetic licence innit
