Now that sounds fun. Any chance of seeing the hipsters and rag tag Corbynista's getting a good kicking off the 'wackers?
  2. Why not remove all the fences/gates?
  3. I'm thinking of opening a bar called "old boots" where you drink Real Ale out of old boots, anyone in?

I agree with you Mr M. In the case for the defense, what has any manager since Hoodle achieved in making England look competitive at the business end of international football (the tournaments)? With hindsight, I think that 5-1 win over Germany wasn't great for English football as it made Sven untouchable for way too long. 1998 since we've looked like we could win anything....... Careful what you wish for :)

Tories now over 10% clear in You Gov Voting Intention Poll (that had Labour 1% up in April) - including marginally ahead in London. TMAY bounce.... that will fade! Lib dems in sign of a recovery, Labour 29%....I'm amazed they're getting that much, Tories 40%
  6. I agree with DoverTheRoad M&S was worshipped for food about 15 years ago! Not sure it's that much of a pull nowadays. Anyway, this thread is miles of amusement with it's mixture of pooterishness and faux class hatred.

You should have put your life savings into the FTSE 100 the afternoon of Brexit for a better return :)

I enjoy the economic stuff; I like reading your input; I'm glad you're here...just think it's a bit spammy on a relatively micro-issue which won't have massive interest to most posters. Just my opinion.
  10. I'm questioning your forecasting skills even more now Lordship :) "100,000 by the 11th"

Dose this really need another thread as it's already been discussed on another?? It's a bit spammy Lordship....
  12. I don't disagree - I'd add fibre optic broadband (or whatever the next generation is called ) to that list. I do think the Tories are going to do some Keynesian stuff for sure now - Ed Milliband must be shaking his head in disbelief.

Nah,the real problems stem from when Ghengis Khan/the mongols obliterated the empires of the Middle East/Persia and left a vacuum. "too early to say" as Mao once said :)
  14. Selective quotation isn't the issue it's the headline... I don't disagree with any of that - but we are where we are so continual doom-mongering achieves nothing and makes thing worse - the headline selection is for me interesting and the relevant point. Anyway, you got any ideas or are you caught up in the whole Corbynista against everything but no solutions zeitgeist?
  15. Short term people are worried. Long term (and medium): People in the UK obsessed with home ownership Population forecast to grow Economy still forecast to grow in the medium term Housing stock (supply) woefully below demand Interest rates not going up anytime soon Credit restrictions (via capital ratios) on banks recently loosened Housing just got 10% cheaper for foreign investors Short term uncertainties and some kind of collective hysteria about the UK and London undermining the fundamentals is my opinion. If prices drop 30% plenty of people will jump at the market and prices will recover. In 2008 the global financial system approached Armageddon - house prices plummeted...can anyone remind us how long before prices in London recovered? If you need to sell right now you are probably going to take some sort of haircut but beyond that all will be OK is my opinion

  17. There's some reasonably good news and things have held up better so far (by far) than many predicted - the normal suspects continue to paint the bleak picture; Guardian and BBC reporting Old Mutual Fund manager assessment on the situation as "Horrible for UK" in their headlines, which is out of context - almost theatre review selective commentating - when his actual words were far more nuanced: "I think the economy is going to judder to a halt [or] have a mild recession, but I don't think it is going to be as severe as some of these shares are pricing in... The real economy is only going to gradually emerge over the next three to six months," Mr Buxton said. Could have done without this (Brexit) don't like the uncertainty but fook me people are really talking the UK down (and, it's the predictable sources Plus some on here, naturally :) )
  18. No mention of CAP? Seems a big gap in your analysis My understanding is that the trade tariffs the EU impose of food stuff (largely to protect French farmers) artificially inflates food prices by between 15-30%; so in the medium to long term Brexit could well reduce food prices to a true market level for foodstuff. well below the 7% short term spike in inflation....
  19. Anyway, Harris gets it right here IMO... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jul/15/labour-death-spite-bullying-working-class-base

  22. Apparently this will be the least privately educated Cabinet since 1945 and, staggeringly, the new Education Minister is the FIRST one to have attended a comprehensive. The 'posh boys' attacks a bit redundant now ( ironically more applicable to Corbyn's Kabul) although I'm never convinced they were very effective anyway.
  23. Camber Sands is a proper massive beach (with a reasonable number of eaterise etc nearby) and great but a bit further journeywise. BroadStairs is an OK sized beach but part of a more traditional victorian seaside town. If you're not bothered about a slighly longer journey it would be Camber sands all day long for me.
  24. ..or would you rather Gove? People mixing up their Tory hate with actual realpolitik here.
