  4. Which he said wasn't going to happen that morning - the dire predictions continued.
  5. Key board socialists full of prejudice shocker* *and probably thoroughly middle-class themselves
  6. ..I loved Tiswas too
  7. yup - but my point is we haven't fallen off a cliff yet and there is no signs of it, in fact things are going in the opposite direction right now - in contrast to much of the coverage in the media and among our 'experts' on here the week post-Brexit. The line of the pessimist now taken is yours - on well it will be worse later, from many who said it would be terrible by now. Of course we don't know the future but the initial pessimism was wrong - expect GDP forecast etc to shift back up again now. We'll have markets and labour in 2 years time too for reasons that have been much discussed already.
  8. That is True *bob*, but some were just among your niche/age group but In 70s It's a Knock Out TOTP Christmas Morecambe and wise Eurovsion Song Contest You had to watch to be in on conversations in the playground Later on The Young Ones Twin Peaks Pride & Prejudice (with Firth & Eccles) + even Howards End (ironically, natch) as examples for my age group But, although everyone's far too cool to admit it now, the first 1 or 2 series of Big Brother Plus the pre x-factor (with Gates and Young) , were compulsory watches - i watched the final of the latter in a pub in Hackney surrounded by pre-hipster 'hipsters' When I mix with my mum's circle nowadays the conversation is split 50/50 about immigrants and Strictly too. I have to pretend I've watched Strictly unless I want to be ignored. So still happening somewhere...just not in my world.
  9. ..and this morning, Manufacturing PMI up from 48 to 53 the 2nd biggest jump in 25 years (and ahead of a forecast of 49). Now, just where are our resident forum economists with their post-Brexit models and predictions? :)

Rose Tinted rubbish, most 70s tv was crap, there was little choice and you had to watch it 'live' - laughable to think it was better! If we are going back to the 70s then MOST is far better nowadays A few classic sitcoms & worthy lefty Play for Today may have been better but more recently we've had The Office, Ad Fab, etec etc just as good (and more modern equivalents) as examples. Google a page for Saturday night Radio Times for say 1975 and prepare to be appalled. That's without all the modern 'box set' type shows. Modern TV in choice & variety kicks ass on the 70s - but if you disagree you can always watch one of the Myriad 'Golden Oldie' type channels anyway
  11. Very good Charlie :)
  12. the co-op is a centralised crapply managed cooperative with unempowered, low paid, local staff...how the hell are they going to 'up their game'?

  15. yup - all good points Joe
  16. Anyway, back to the economics Consumer Confidence up this morning (gfK), houseprices slightly ahead (Nationwide), when we add recent highs for FTSE 100 and 250, record levels of employment, and growth currently above pre-brexit forecasts - the wheels certainly aren't falling off yet as many foretold...including some 'experienced modellers' on here. Appreciate it's still early days.
  17. mmmmm if you think about it it's actually a bit 'racist' to single out these examples as if 'they' are somehow not allowed these opinions as recent or from recent immigrant backgrounds, ironically ...........just pointing it out
  18. Weird 2 weeks after Brexit plus Project fear made everyone think the wheels were coming off - and this coincided with two big business/economic surveys (PMI and GfK's Consumer Confidence) - which both got massive press, but fieldwork was largely in that weird space..... but a month plus on the sky hasn't fallen in and worst fears not materialised (yet anyway) - don't get me wrong, I think we'd had been moving into boom territory without the Brexit vote the economy was starting to motor, will now be more subdued but hopefully no recession....
