Looks to me like two horrific crimes. I don't support the death penalty and believe that the state should aspire to be above the babarism of some of the people that live within it. And before we get a lecture on crime rates in these medieval places, I think a state that removes almost all right for 50% of its population on the basis of their gender is committing, literally, millions of crimes on a daily basis.

I don't personally feel it glorifies war - given that's its primarily a 'military' event (or certaily its paegentry is) and its largest attendances are ex service people remembering fallen comrades I think it gets the balance about right. edited for its/ it's disaster

Brendan - of course in a sense you are right, but the point is that it has always been apolitical and 'a call for peace' other than in a very very general way can be seen as political. It's about remebering sacrifice and not a judgement on that sacrifice.

What I would have liked to have seen is Labour put up a white working class MP on the panel. It looked so - Sean I mean this genuinely on this occasion - so metropilitanly PC the BNP could and did walk away saying 'that's not Britain'. I'd have liked some one like Cruddas (who I quite like) on there - sadly I think he put real politic above principles as too many of his constituency are mild BNP sympathisers so he didn't want to alienate them. A solution is letting it all come out and be exposed philisophically and eugenically as the idoicy it is but accepting that us, flawed human beings, do have prejudices, have tendancies to be scared of the unknown and the 'different' that we should try and overcome. But currently I'm completley despondent about that in general and as this thread and forum have demonstrated humans seem unwilling to get down to doing any proper thinking instead its all 1980s type gesture, easy solutions, ticking boxes, taking the easy and 'right' stance, general 'progressive lite' stuff....20% of the population are apparently thinking of voting BNP depressingly that scales up to about 30% of the ethnically white population...shouting RACIST RACIST SCUM at them won't make that depressing stat disappear.

Mick - i'm going to bite. I think I publicly changed my views on Arsenal's chances back in early September (as you know) and indeed have them at 7ish which suggests I did too.
