Asthma diagnosis in young babies?
midivydale replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you all for your replies and to Buggie for your explanation. He has been very poorly but hoping that he is now on the mend. Thanks again C x -
Me again:) Baby ivydale had a recent trip to kings a&e and was diagnosed with bronchities. Kings were fantastic when i came in and with him and he was thoroughly checked. Bloods, urine, xrays etc. He had a terrible chesty cough and so the consultant (who was brilliant)spend alot of time on his chest. The question of asthma came up (alot of asthma history on his father's side). I remember the consultant saying something about him being to young for an asthma diagnosis (he is 8 months). We were finally discharged and sent home with an inhalor which fro What i gather is used to treat asthma. I should of course have asked all the right questions at the time but i was pre occupied with the immidate concerns for my son. Did i hear it correct that asthma is not diagnosed in babies, and if so why? Can babies have asthma? I have never had any allergies so have no experience of this. Baby ivydale has cmpi and now potential (asthma?). Would be most grateful if anyone could shed any light or share their experiences. Grateful as always. C x Edited to say sorry for typos, i cant seem to get used to the iphone.

Breast feeding vs formula feeding
midivydale replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
R&A wrote 'I?m in the camp that thinks it?s really none of anyone?s business whether another mother bf or not'. Indeed I started a separate thread as frankly buttercup didnt deserve her OP being hijacked and sidetracked. I came under attack when i highly vulnarble post birth asked for help for my severly ill newborn. My point is that when a vulnarble new mother or mother to be posts a question or ask for advice it shouldnt mean that the topic is up for debate. In my case, i asked questions about reflux and at the time was not equipped emotionaly to be under attack of the ed breast feeding squad. I was way to poorly and fragile to deal with that nonsense at the time and most definately did not need to hear others opinion on how i was letting my newborn down. Each to their own. I fully acknowledge breast is best and was totally unprepared for not being able to breastfeed. It just doesnt always work out as you want - welcome to parenthood i guess. -

Breastfeeding Advice Please!
midivydale replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Everytime bf is mentioned here the OP gets hijacked and so the "debate" sidetracks the question asked by the OP. Why oh why is it that a vulnarable first time mother can not ask a practical question without the thread being sidetracked about bf! This happens time and time again and it is nothing but disrespectful. Please be supportive and answer the questions asked. If you dont have the answer but a burning desire to start a bf debate, start your own threads. Buttercup, i have replied via pm to you. X -
Breastfeeding Advice Please!
midivydale replied to buttercupSE11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hey buttercup, I had my baby at kings in march this year and they do provide aptamil as others have said. The mw said that if you plan to formula feed you should bring your own but if you plan to bf and for whatever reason it doesnt work out you will be provided with aptamil. They also have a pump that you can use and mw will help you. I had no bottles/formula at home or in my bag as it didnt occur to me that bf may not work out. I wish that antenatal Classes had Covered the fact that it may not work out. For us it didnt, for a number of reasons (most of which were medical) and i had to stop. Heartbreaking at the time and the pressure and insensitivity from others made it so much harder. For me - not bf wasnt a choice i made, circumstances meant it wasnt an option for me. What i am trying to say is that i understand the pressure and it is hard. Dont be bullied - we all know "breast is best " but formula fed babies have just as capable and loving mothers. Good luck with whatever decision YOU make for YOUR baby. It can get abit heated in here whenever bf is discussed or even mentioned, if you have other questions please feel free to pm me if you prefer some privacy. All the best Xx -
Thank you so much everyone! All this is very helpful. Thank you

Hi all, Please could any of you point me in the right direction? My lo has outgrown his infant car seat (maxi cosi) and we need to buy a new one. Any recommendations would be greatly received as well as any local (ish) places to go to for shopping and advice. I really dont want to drag ds to john lewis so any tips would be great. Thank you so much CX

Anyone's baby had a 24 hr impedance probe study?
midivydale replied to Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hey, i would say emergency reflux meeting takes priority over other halves:) I am available whenever you are free, it is a priority to help my fellow reflux mums keep their spirits up when needed. God knows you kept me sane in the early days. Just let me know when you want to see me and also if i can help with anything. Belle, you available too? C xx -

The Gardens cafe - NOT baby friendly
midivydale replied to nubby'smums's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Of course it his decision, he has just on several occasions been very rude about it, which in my opinion is uncalled for. Especially when you have been a good, well paying customer. I have lived baby free in ED for 10yrs and love the fact that there are baby and non baby establishments in the area. Thats great. It is most def his/her decision and one that should be respected. It is just a shame when that decision is rudely put across to very loyal customers. I would have loved to have a sling baby- sadly that wasnt an option for me, nor is it for my friend with newborn twins. For some prams are a must. I am at homemade every single day with a pram. Everyone who has been know the place is tiny, i do my best to ensure my pram is not in the way and staff have never ever made me feel anything but welcome. In turn i dont go there at times when i know they are very busy, to ensure that i am not in the way. I have the utmost respect for any revenue generating business in this climate and never ever assume that my pushchair us welcome. I dont have an issue at all with business owners not wanting prams- my issue is being treated with rudeness. Spring babies have found a new venue & we are very happy there. -

Awful terrible place. Haven been back since i got asked if i "expected the red carpet" by staff when i ASKED v politely if i could move a table slightly to accomodate pram. May i add that this was outside and i was the only customer. I only asked so that ds would be safely out of the sun ( since they dont provide sun umbrellas). Awful awful awful place -
Ladies, need your help. Baby ivydale who has been a pretty good sleeper since his reflux has been under control has started waking again at night after sleeping through for about 4mnths. He goes to bed at 7 and now wakes at 1am and he seems hungry. I gulps down a full bottle and then another one at 5.30. Why? I thought perhaps a growth spurt so have just been feeding him but am concerned that it is now becomming a habit. I dont know what to do, any advice? He eats plenty during the day 3 good meals of solids as well as bottles. He is teething (first came through yday) but he seems hungry rather than in pain. Shall i keep feeding him or am i creating a bad habit? Thanks x
