and I thought you and and Scott had made up Keef? ;-)

don't be mean BBW - he was just asking nor is it on topic Bishop Sold But will stay the same (prediction)
-
Well - pretty much as you see it. When they (Bishop) took over Ganleys (now the Florence in HH) they introduced similar beers, very similar menu (typeface, options, prices) and service compared to the Bishop. So when this pubco took the Florence over they kept all of those in place. I can't see them changing the Bishop
-
They won't do anything - they already have the Florence in Herne Hill and that is still on the Bishop model. I would expect it to remain the same

ok good examples, but they aren't dominating in the way the bigger brands do. And even then Harry Ramsdens is owned by non-English firms Wimpy is also owned by some conglomerate and in any case is fading fast in the UK All of them are, however equally shite -

I'm with you on the not condoing vandalising any property Louisa - 100% i'm pretty sure they were tongue in cheek but even so.. And I don't want to pick on Maccy Ds specifically, but trotting out "they are creating jobs" isn't much use in the wider scheme of things if we are talking about minimum wage burger flipping. A happy world, that is not going to make But can I ask what the British fast food chains all over the world are? -

criminal activity aside, why is it not possible to be anti-capatalist on here? The thing is France is succumbing to teh fast-food bug badly as well. I don't think archic was being anti-American. It just so happens that the global fast-food chains ARE American.. hence not giving out about french/spanish/Ugandan fast food joints -
The thing with scientists being quoted in the media is (and this applies to pro and anti) "who is sponsoring them" Also you have to be aware that the media is simply dreadful at reporting anything scientific www.badscience.net is the place to get a better understanding So reading reportage on latest findings is only the smalles part of the picture

You did indeed refer to the law but your own words were "piety and fervour" which I took (and take) to suggest... some sort of religiosity Any road - what sort of evidence would satisfy a sceptic ? Assuming you would accept evidence long before it was manifestly too late. Does your thinking include any element of "better safe than sorry?" As for nuclear power - technological advances = A Good Thing. But no country has convinced me that human error won't be the death of us all. Yes former green leaders are now advocating it, and it's attractive for the very reason of not pumping carbon into the atmosphere but between cost-savings, meltdowns and storage issues I'm not happy with it Wind/Solar power may be ineffcient at present but investing in maximising these will reap more benefit in the longer term IMO

Tony, whilst I won't argue about the 40s/50's, if you were lucky enough to be even older and lived in the London 50 years previous to that it would have been a MUCH MUCH more dangerous place. S'all about equality y'see But fear of getting mugged isn't an issue for me. That's not to say I won't get mugged. It could happen tonight. But I'm not afraid of it - statistically it's unlikely. And I would far rather live now than in the 50s -

Tony this "people in ED are cosseted and don't see the real world" is an accusation that has been levelled before. And it's as bollix now as it was then i don't have to leave ED to see incidents like you describe. And as i walk through (variously) Bermondsey, Stockwell and of late E&C on way to and from work every day I have plenty of opportunity to see any number of events like this. But where we differe is that, whilst I'm not happy about it, i can contextualise and look at all the other 8 or 9 million + conurbations in the world and say "yep, that happens". I don't feel less safe because of it. My eyes were open when I moved to the city -

I was teasing Louisa with my arguments - but unless the areas are manifestly disfigured by a little of this activity I'm not overly bothered if people do pick some. Every day I have walked past in the last week I can't say I've done an impression of Chuck Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes and gone "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" -

comparing the mounting evidence re: climate change with religious belief is poppycock of the highest order MM! And it is mounting evidence - not concrete proof, so there is room for debate. But equating the current wight of argument with woo merchants is not helpful I agree that earth hour achieves nothing in terms of measuring output - but as with a minute's silence after tragic events, the IDEA is to make us reflect and think about our current actions. people entrench themselves fartoo quickly so, for example, when I do one of my "too many cars" routines people catsigate me about power/fuel usage, when what I'm more concerned about is basic physics and the amount of square metres avaailable in congested spaces - ie the argument gets deflected I often find quids pronouncements re: economy and so on a bit, shall we say, over-dramatic. But I do reckon in our lifetimes the major wars (including civil) will be about the realisation that fuel/food/water are not as plentiful as we think. And being able to say "I told you so" to climate-change sceptics will be of scant consolation Put simply - if the "believers" are wrong - excellent, no big deal, as you were etc, But if the sceptics are wrong....

has it really been almost a year? Anyway.. in case anyone feels like a flounce -
I'm not litigious. But I do like pies. Clearly I haven't watche a Bill Hicks DVD for years now. And that includes some of the ones I bought which were rare for years (the expanded Sane Man for instance) But the latter 2 cds (the ones with dodgy music - Arizon Bay and Rant in E Minor) are not bad for relaxing in a bath to Wheras the 3 Stewart Lee DVDs are watched as often as decency allows. Which in the case of the middle DVD, decency will never allow

Wii only yes. Which is fine if only I could stop playing "world of goo" on the thing
