  1. Liverpool were OUTSTANDING from what I saw last night - it was obvious within the first few minutes they were going to run riot and fair play to them I say- now just keep out of our way if we win tonight! Atila - was that you I saw walking along East Dulwich Rd with a cigarette about 6ish last night?
  2. whilst I wouldn't call you a "mad right wing ideologue intent on burning the planet to a crisp" (yet) you haven't exactly come up with any reasonable alternative to the increasing problem of congestion in major cities. Coninually expanding LA style is clearly not a solution any more (if it ever was) Prediction: In not too many years people will see Ken as forward-thinking on this issue and just as "the public" are berating politicians now for not doing anything about the financial crisis before it hit, people will complain about why governments didn't do anything to prevent whatever environmental horrors await
  3. What mockney said basically - any party which has behaved as Labour has done and does not get punished at the polls would send a dreadful message to any future elected parties But no I won't be voting Tory. I will never say never (although this comes close) but Cameron and co? They will probably get in anyway but I can't play a part Given that they will probably get in I will end up voting for the most benign candidate I can find and effectively waste my vote
  4. Another gem from the Max'ster
  5. But to see what the fuss is re: an earlier poster's comments re Gail Anne Dorsey then this is the Under Pressure for you Under Pressure
  6. I've met George. Very lovely chap They are still best friends as well
  7. Having seen Dawn Landes live, I would recommend checking out more of her stuff This came on my shuffle back on the plane - it's a haunting take on an old English Folk Song. I hadn't heard it in years and it gave me quite the chill The video is now to do with the song or group - some amateur take.
  8. There is nothing odd about that story at all - it is standard practice for any corporation who needs to retain some of it's experienced staff. Usually companies relocating get to keep about a third of it's experienced staff when relocating like this. And the package is "up to" 46k - rest aussured most won't get that. Some will undoubtedly retain a London home as insurance if things don't pan out oop North - what is wrong with that? It's not exactly entering the realms of buy to let investordom is it? Anything spouted by "TaxPayers' Alliance" is usually emotional, manipulative piffle anyway. "Most taxpayers" they are referring to stand every chance of being offered a similar deal at some point in their lives - when I first lived in London 20 years ago, earning approx 8k a year (very much an "ordinary taxpayer") my non-taf-funded, private insurance company relocated to Devon and offered similar packages. It's not sharp practice in the slightest! Only long serving staff will qualify and most of them will turn down the offer. So is it fair? In a word, yes
  9. I will even stand up for a good third of tin machines output. "i cant read","goodbye mr ed" and "shopping for girls" all fine songs off the top of my head
  10. Im more with quids choices (station to station, diamond dogs, low etc) rather than the classic rock albums (ziggy etc) But after an 80s that saw him floundering big time anyone who dismisses the period from 93 to 97 and them 2002s heathen album is missing out on some of his better work Even the 80s threw up some gems. . Absolute beginners for one. I know real music fans dont "get" him . . Not real enough. Doesnt "roll" as well as rock. But of the generation which still tours and releases records very few are little more than authentic tribute acts. Neil young continues to strive for new work. Once a decade dylan does something. But even then they operate within much narrower paramaters than bowie. Moot any way now. . Since the heart business i cant see him performing or even recording again
  11. Oh god. My specialist subject and only a phone keyboard to use. Arse. But i will come back to this
  12. Sue Im aware of the history between the venue and people like the goose and gut rocking. And basically im on your side But it is what it is now and there is no going back. And i like the place already. Free food wont change that. But i would feel happier with more people there. I think it stands a good chance of being the best drinks night. And i shall be there. Oh yes. I cant miss two in a row can i. .
  13. Hi roarster By e music do you mean all online stores or a specific service? I tend to use last fm and the music room on here for free listening. Then i buy on cheap cd by preference or i tunes for laziness/convenience Lots of new free models coming online. Adverts are involved usually. Spotify is a prominent service at the moment
  14. How lovely!. . So what changed for you lindy?
  15. Im off to see it in new york later today. Woo hoo! But all the old cliches about it being unfilmable are probably true and characters that look good on page could well look like bad tights on screen. And still im excited !
  16. Even as i read this far far away rosie . . . Well. . . I came over all funny Is it ironic that despite a tail off towards the end of this thread and a possible us/them mentality developing , generally the level of discourse from all parties on here rose for a short while ? Or did i mis read things
  17. Did i have whiskey at that one? Hmmm. . . Seems i did. But i became a lot more than "wobbly" with whiskey on a few occasions thereafter
  18. Seriously moos. . Its snorky. If i fall for his bait there is no hope for me In related news i note the edt are starting to trail st georges day celebrations. Sadly, according to at least one poster on here it would be silly of me to partake
  19. And that, in a nutshell, is the worry. Great post tho Anna
  20. Dom - chill many people agreed with you at the time as well - selective memory Also the forum has changed a lot in 2 years with a LOT more people - so it's not so much people changing their minds as just... different people
  21. If Cheltenham had more people like I might go ;-) My money is on Platitude Queen
  22. TLS - I think Rosie would welcome a bit of edgy banter. I think we all would. Anything to save us from endless wibbling
  23. Mike - sorry I just can't agree with that at all. In an age when clubs discard managers (to no great effect) at the drop of a hat it is to Arsenal's credit they are taking the long view Now - it may well be that Wenger has peaked and that a decline is inevitable but for now I'm happy to concede that some events of our own making (budget) and some not (extensive injuries) have put us in a bad spot. But people have short memories. Just a few years ago fans were calling for Ferguson's head as Mourinhio was winning. What if Man U had caved in and appointed someone else. Would they be they force they are now?
  24. Mad world. Based on history I would lean towards you being presumptious. I can say it wasn't me. But then again I don't post messages calling the whole forum tossers But I do agree with Rosie. Again
