Forest Hill Tavern - Late Night Noise (Lounged)
SeanMacGabhann replied to woody's topic in The Lounge
ruth - I THINK what Tillie was getting at with the Nunhead comment is that Nun for All doesn't really need to keep coming on here if he/she doesn't like it. I think Tillie knows where the FHT is and that it's not in Nunhead. or Forest Hill But then that could just be me using my saintly powers AFN: I'm not saying I AM Jesus... that's for you to spend some time thinking about at home. But if I was Jesus.. and I'm not remember... but if I was.... this is the sort of forum I would spend time on isn't it? Not a big glitzy forum like The Times or the BBC... but a small... humble forum like this. ;-) -
well not really is he? He once sanctioned a song for use in a Coke ad - that got used. He didn't sanction another song - but that got used as well. I think he's in the right on this one. I mean if he HAD gone off and done a big "I would never sanction a song with Coca Cola" spiel he would be a hypocrite but I don't think he has done that...

was that 12 months ago??? F*** Me -
I didn't even see the game, but going by our record in that part if the world, yes I was happy Going by what I read in the papers today however, it sounds more like we were wasting chances again, so I'm less happy with that aspect
-
That was just beautifully constructed. Love it

if anyone even thought that I typed that out from memory.....

I lived that song back in the day young Mockers "Because the world is cruel and Promises are broken Don't try to tell me Anything don't try to tell me You'll be true to me you know the Real truth is never spoken And I know the world is cold but If you hold on tight to what you Find you might not mind too much though Even this must pass away and Memories may last for years but Names are just for souvenirs Some kind of angel let me Look into your eyes Don't give me whys and wherefores Reason or surprise I don't care for words that don't belong And I don't care what you're called Tell me later if at all I can wait a long long time Before I hear another love song" Ah happy days...

Adventure bar - East Dulwich (Lounged when no longer about same)
SeanMacGabhann replied to James's topic in The Lounge
Blimey - I thought you would have had a reply by now Toby I have to take my hat off to you for wading through that many pages of often rancorous posts and still taking the time to address them - seriously, well done I have been back in once or twice since the opening night and preferred it on those occassions - next time I will ask for you and say hi. -
Hi Smokie - good to hear about the pub taking the initiative with "things to do" How about "cinema" evenings along the lines of Dulwich Paradiso where films are shown on a large projector?

In the end it was Lady Mac who had the garlic chicken. We survived A good night all told - we were well looked after by the Mirash boys. We had a cameo from Mr Administrator and we managed to persuade a naughty girl who had no intention of coming to stay out as well. -
Are the "Old" and "New" King Lud Pubs still there? I haven't seen those so can't comment What is Fleet Street like without the Papers? like any clonetown- chains of mobile phones and coffee shops. Riveting it ain't Do "The Sun" still operate out of Bouverie Street? don't think so Are "The White Swan" and "The Witness Box" still going in Tudor Street, off Bouverie Street? Witness Box sure is but I haven't seen the White Swan at all so suspect that is now an office

But once the dust settles, won't this be a good thing in the longer term? -
me no cycle - but as I walked to Blackfriars this morning, at every crossing on Blackfriars Rd at least one cyclist broke the lights.

You'll know when you see her. As for the hill, it doesn't have to refer to the one which starts at the Mag and goes up to the Plough - it could be the return journey back up DKH for some -
The Dream Machine - Lordship Lane
SeanMacGabhann replied to Weegee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What ruthb and Brendan said If you do a search for "dream machine" on the forum you will find the owners post on here regularly - as well as selling music they also host live music and had a great launch party in the constitutional hall as well. I have however made a mistake re: John the owner. In the past I compared him to the latest Mike Myers film - when in actual fact he IS Warren Ellis from the Bad Seeds/Dirty Three http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/images/2005/11/25/warren_ellis_203_203x152.jpg -
Forest Hill Tavern - Late Night Noise (Lounged)
SeanMacGabhann replied to woody's topic in The Lounge
AllforNun is always there - just never says hello (we are about to get lounged unless this gets back on topic btw) I remember when we had the Forum drinks at the FHT - great staff and they looked after us really well - both with the free food and the unwillingness to chuck us out. I hoped they would do well. I don't live near the FHT so can't comment on the actual noise but I find it easy to imagine that a late-night club creates a completely different din to even the rowdiest pub -

SeanMacGabhann replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
Liqourish and Bishop on a Friday night? I can't see how that would work - the noise alone would make the last Mag do seem like a graveyard (That's not me having a dig at either place btw - but they are just waaay to busy at the weekends IMO) -
Forest Hill Tavern - Late Night Noise (Lounged)
SeanMacGabhann replied to woody's topic in The Lounge
Why not - we're all friends here ;-) The "who cares?" was rhetorical mind you. I suspect you are probably right re: the prevailing mood around the pub meant you were always going to be in a minority on this one. Personally I would test the water before coming out all guns blazing. I took a similarly robust view as you about another backstreet pub (The Castle) and had several people point out how wrong I was, it was always emptying fights out on to the street etc. I still think the pub is ok but I can at least see where they are coming from But if you are buying.... any chance you could walk the yards down to the EDT tonight and join a few of us for a curry - you buying a round would help me enormously ;-) -

sometimes this place really gets on my tits. ruthb may have inadvertantly got off to a ropey start and as candj says, hopefully that will be sorted and she will continue posting (along with Mr ruthb!) But AFN - that was a selective quote. And you are deliberately stirring. Who is playing social games? What hierarchy? And crude generalisations? "expensive loaves of pine nut and daffodil bread !. " never touched the stuff in my life! Only one playing "games" is you AFN . Again.
