  1. Great shout bon
  2. Class choice Brendan - reminded me of the song Berserker later in the film and from the sequel
  3. barenaked ladies??? ooooh dear strangely enough, I was just today catching up with Doug Stanhope's blog where he mentions his embarrassing possession of same Stanhope re: CDs specifically: "?Long Tall Glasses? by Leo Sayers is a great song and even a music snob might let you get away with it for it?s obscurity. But, if you knew that I had not one but three BareNakedLadies songs shuffling around in there like some Russian Roulette party fauz pas waiting to happen?"
  4. old A30, now bypassed near Ottery St Mary in Devon - the road that leads down to the village of Whimple (where I used to live) had a big filling station at which a friend used to work. Car pulls up one day about 1994, and he sees with some disbelief that the driver is David Bowie and the wife Eamonn* is with him - he's not especially fan but he is a bit agog and not a little speechless - Bowie pays and as no words have been said, simply adds "yes, it's me" and goes back to pootling around the West Country * just for Mark & Lard fans..
  5. ooof serious questions - is that a good idea today? I applaud your willingness to stand up and be counted - the scene you describe at the bus stop illustrates the real problem in the country - everyone is waiting for someone else to do their work for them "When I were a lad etc etc" bad parents and kids were plentiful, but the wider world of adults were not afraid to compensate. Obviously people are going to worry about more violent repercussions these days but most problems would fade significantly if more people were like you I reckon shosh
  6. Can't argue with the selection loz, but pedants might argue this is a film thread - ah f*** it - here's the classic scene anyway McNulty and Bunk - fuuuuuuuuuck As I'm in the mood I've always liked the bit in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence where Tom Conti loses his rage with jack Thompson, turns around and in best officer-material voice shouts "I don't F***ING know!!"
  7. photos? at a pub crawl? are people MAD??
  8. Having took my leave at about 8ish to catch Andy Parsons at the Hob ( I was still drinking, I wasn't cheating) , I returned to the EDT about 12:30 or so - and found a few remaining hardcore. Everyone was in fine fettle earlier in the evening and I wish I had chance to catch up more - but hat's off to Brendan for leading the way. Glad to hear Indie made it out as well...
  9. Exactly my point. Didnt stop you firing off a generalisation tho did it now. . You naughty minx
  10. * looks nervously at the calorific content of alcohol * yes, well let's not be too harsh on overweight people... ;-) As for McKeith being 45 - I'm with Danny Baker with his "whoah ho ho ho - I'd like a hot dinner for every years she's over 45" schtick But why dislike just irritating women Natasha - come on - equal rights and all that. Me, Clarkson, a dark alley.... please let it happen
  11. oops - so was mine. * re-reads * ok, yeah - that could be taken as a rebuttal. Ne'r mind - is 11am too early for beer? Or do I need to stick with vodka?
  12. Back at you... I just mentioned getting supplies BEFORE the pub crawl in as I have many times woken up only to find neither carbohydrate, fruit juice or animal fats in the house.. I'm determined to have a good breakfast on the go tomorrow. And that includes some Brasil from Monmouth Coffee But if this water situation gets worse, tomorrow will be hell
  13. No pressure here at top of Friern Rd - everything is DOPE man... oh - you mean WATER pressure?? Much spluttering from the tap when I put kettle on earlier but I had a shower without any bother
  14. To those on the Right it may be convenient to label Labour as Trotskis - but seriously.... I'd settle for the odd left-winger within Labour, never mind what passes for them now
  15. Phew - if we can agree on the Gillster there is hope of common ground! As for Sometimes true, but in my example of dental work - to hell with the side effects - I'm not doing root canal au naturel!
  16. Odd then that I seem to have read so much about them of late... Job Centres comment Incapacity Benefit Plus I could see with my own eyes when I was signing on... But my argument is not with the concept of helping people back to work - it's the fact that people are being told they will be given help but the reality is that people will just have money taken away. Some scroungers no doubt but equally many who aren't
  17. Is it not ironic that the people are quickest to condemn others are also quickest to go "this forum is just about people being rude" Come on - sometimes people are rude but as you well know there is a lot of goodwill on here - I've even had a drink with monica and had our picture taken together with nary a cross word said! But a question to you Natasha and monica is "why do you think people get so upset by and rude about complementary medicine?" What is it that gets people backs up - are you able to get that at all? Science is the accumulation of facts and the study of their efficacy. As we learn more, previous assumptions are proved incorrect and it adapts. It doesn't get defensive - it says "so, this pain killer which numbs the gums before dental work doesn't work you say? Well let's have a look at this thing you've brought in that does work" "alternative" or "complimentary" medicine either works (in which case it is simply "medicine" and is already part of the arsenal of drugs) or it doesn't. But when I hear the words I have to double check - it's like the hi-pressure salesmen saying "hey don't be bamboozled by my patter - just trust me" Where does Gillian McKeith fit in to all of this - is she friend or foe? And where do maniacal, genocidal men go when they need to disappear? Well they can't become a qualified doctor because that requires examination, rigour and fact-checking. But they can of course set up as an alternative therapist Ooops And they can do that because everything is taken on trust. When the whole topic came up before it led to PAGES of dialogue - some of it often hysterical. (in tone as well as ha-ha) Last time we had a good chin-wag about this Is it not possible to have a reasoned debate without everyone sayng everyone else is "rude"
  18. Birthday cheer to you too H !
  19. Judging by his second sentence I reckon Marmora Man already knows to avoid these places but thought he would make the best of a bad job while he was there
  20. More ad breaks - yay! and They hate you really you know
  21. more to the point, has everyone ensured a ready supply of vittles come the morning after?
  22. ahh - memories of my adolescence - YMO (with Captain Yanoi no less!) and Japan/Sylvian records As for Micah P - saw him at Larmer Tree Gardens 2 years ago and I'm going again this year, with him playing again (tu)
  23. Yep - I'm with AcedOut on this one... I don't think prices will plummet anormously but a slow decline for a good 6 months - after that it could go either way. There is obviously pent-up demand - just not enough money
  24. ha - not in any way. Lady MacGabhann thinks I made that up anyway But the poster IS John from Dream Machine - come on John admit it - you aren't going to the US to "manage bands" - you're making Hollywood films for The Man
  25. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT! Phew - Thanks Annasfield...
