people are talking as if strange mumbling men outside train stations are a new thing in Britain... Exeter Central station - you could take your pick!

JUST as I achieve the ability to watch youtube clips at work the (admittedly spiffy) embedded business above happens! Can I request a reversion to youtube clips? Great Howling Bells track MP - but my you are predictable with your chanteuse thang aintcha? ;-) In a good way of course

* keeps a watchful eye on this to see if a clich?d and genuine chain argument breaks out * (6) As for why people get excited about H&G - probably a mixture of nostalgia and seeing something different. The concept has spread pretty far since tho' so the novelty has worn off a bit

oooh she kept that quiet! And I thought she was going to share my birthday party with me later this year...

when you consider that large parts of the world have to trek to a well every day, our indulgence in bottled water is beyond lampooning And then we complain about congestion charge or whatever else is "imposed" on us... I don't mind the cloudiness as such but on a hit day that tap has to run for a bit to get the cool stuff - or if I'm good and remember to chill some in the fridge I have and ocassionaly do buy bottle water - but I'm not going to make any defence of it - it's just laziness. Expensive laziness too. If you see me drinking it when I have an alternative feel free to call me on it edited after reading PeckhamRose's post: indeed PR, indeed - and more power to them. It's when people complain about how they don't have any money for anything else that I get annoyed. .... What was it about not being able to afford proper chicken that some people mentioned a while back??

heh heh... Made me chuckle there PFC. Come on kel, one post we would have ignored but that hasty follow up? Spill

I don't think it's fair to accuse Wenger of that, quids. He has won the thing several times and if he didn't care about the competition, then he wouldn't really be humiliated would he? His team selection was more to do with injuries than the upcoming CL game (although that's bound to play a part) But yes, Citizen, the shame.. the mortification I watched part of the Chelsea v Huddersfield game before and Huddersfield put up much stronger opposition. I thought Utd were on fire and don't want to take anything from them but we looked clueless.. absolutely clueless Ah well....

bless you JC (and smugly remembers January 16th when I wrote: "The question raised at the start of the thread was about wether an OBE should be accepted, not about pro or anti-monarchy (happy to join in if it kicks off tho!) (although a part of me suspects that was the intention of the question. Cynical, moi?) ")

that smiley might just save you bignumber5- hmmmmm I'm with mostothers on 'ere - love the place and I'm in there at least once a week but SteveT is spot on too re: The Castle. Old School as you like. I know some forumites live near there and witness "unpleasantness" but I like it. It was mooted as a forum drinks venue but some people were a bit anxious about the place. T'would have done them good to spend an evening in there I say. Failing that.... national service!

new clothes shop (in the ED Warehouse)
SeanMacGabhann replied to EarlyTowers's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
EarlyTowers You could be on to a very good thing with this - many people have been looking, especicially men, for clothing locally. I think White Stuff is ok but it's a very narrow idea of clothing I'll be popping on on Saturday - all the best -
Forgive my ignorance (Hoopers? Lucky 7s?)

Coolness. Look forward to seeing you there! and yes mr ben. . . Collaboration was required. Ahem. I seem to recall helping you out. Besides. . Asset was the forum star that night -
I tend to side with Lizzy on this one - although the advice we gave to CWALD a few weeks back before the television debate may not have gone amiss here Lozzyloz makes some very good arguments against and in the specifics of his examples I would side with him - but I don't think they always map 100% against an athlete. I'm wary of lot's pf finger pointing going on from within athletics but Chambers probably knows as well as anyone that one of the reasons for drug-taking in sport is part of the competition with other drug-takers. That's where the hypocrisy comes into it In a sense I would support Chambers MORE if he stood for election to a sports/oversight body based upon his experience. That would be more relevant and makes the CWALD comparison more pertinent as well

Jah Sorry I'm late to the party but I assume it's stil going strong for the rest of the weekend - next one's on me when I get back

I loved LoM but have been dubious about the sequel - I haven't seen any of it yet but have taped it ("taped it"???) But my suspicions appear to be borne out my experiences so far - I got the impression after series1 of LoM that they didn't quite know what to do next and series 2 had great moments but seemed to have lost the focus on the central premise and enjoyed the soapiness of the characters more. The climaz of series2 was almost wonderful until the bit AFTER the building-top

Methinks it's too small for a forum drinks And I could be completely wrong but I don't think lack of customers is the reason for the selling up - I had the impression it was a case of "enough" after 6 years for the owners?

Forgive my ignorance (Hoopers? Lucky 7s?)
SeanMacGabhann replied to Eljay's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Be careful what that triggers Eljay! In my case I realised my 7@ collection had been decimated by multiple moves over the years and I could barely muster 7 singles I WANTED to play The night itself is great fun tho -
everyone seems to have this one sussed - Cassius put it best IMO Been with LadyMacG for 13 years now - and nowt to do with taking her to hastily re-arranged restaurants with reduced menus at inflated prices And we are both people who love a restaurant meal...

Spot on Atila - was at the Cottage a couple of weeks back for the Villa game (what a joy to be there when Bullard scored!) and I'd swear his ghost still stalks the place

I'm Afraid of Americans.. I'm Afraid I Can't Help It
SeanMacGabhann replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in The Lounge
Well, on THAT score...... I do appear guilty. Maybe I should work in Cheltenham ;-) -
yep series 2 is the original - but like Keef I hated it - initially anyway. I even had the original album but didn't realise that was on it! Now I love series 2 version - series 4? I like that version!

I'm Afraid of Americans.. I'm Afraid I Can't Help It
SeanMacGabhann replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in The Lounge
If Gerry feels I owe him an apology then I'd like to hear him say it (just edited this bit because I reread it and it sounds threatining - What I meant was rather than have Alan stir up trouble, if Gerry et al are genuinely upset I'm sure they will make it known! phew!) - bless Keef for EVER for reminding me of how ridiculous this can be. And seriously Gerry + any other Americans - PM me, come up to me at a forum drinks or let me know in public on here if you think I have been anti-American I have on this very thread stood up for Americans AND put the stereotypical Brit abroad into the same category. But the sheer power and size of America, with some attendant scariness (the rise and influence of fundamentalist Christians for example) was the inspiration of the song title in the thread's...erm, title. That doesn't make anyone anti-American on a wholesale basis My initial post was about AN arrogant American who represents a swathe of opinion of his countrymen - that people then turned the thread into this ridiculous "racism" is solely down to you Mr Dale. I should know better than to rise to your bait but our relative absence from these shores blunted my defences. I thought that incident worthy of comment... I feel no need whatsoever to compare American, British, European or Irish (that's me) to the likes of Pol Pot, Stalin et al. I'm able to make up my own mind about the why's and wherefores of "our" actions. As the supposed good guys, I hold our standards to much higher critical standards than the aforementioned. However - as soon as some people on here got a whiff of "anti-Americanism" they have straw-manned the thing to f***ing death People seem to be either a) shit-stirring or b) unable to listen to any criticism of western policy. As westerners it's that policy we have to defend and stand by (or amend) - not anyone elses. Someone said on here they would, on balance prefer to live in a capitalist country than a communist one - if someone suggested or even intimated something to the contrary on here than I missed that meeting - but that doesn't give capitalism a blank cheque to do what it will. There has been a whole load of other arguments thrown into the mix, which Mockney has largely dealt with heroically but some are amazing. For starters if ANYONE mentions "6th form debate" - they ARE John Gaunt and need not be listened to (give or take! ;-) ) The whole "would Iraq be better off if Saddam was still in power?" - seriously - the guy just magicked up from somewhere did he? And we fixed it? And we are so righteous we shall now move forward and fix the world remaining trouble spots? Does anyone, from any country, seriously believe this is Western policy?
