Public transport in ED..brixton so close but yet so far
SeanMacGabhann replied to bil's topic in The Lounge
A post advocating extreme violence on another person (albeit absurdly) has been removed ? can we try and keep this on the right side of forum behaviour please? -
I think PR was ironically quoting Monty Python to prove a point (ie Peckham is plenty good)

Public transport in ED..brixton so close but yet so far
SeanMacGabhann replied to bil's topic in The Lounge
But that sounds so innocent, who could possible argue. It just doesn't tally with teh way you say areas should be nuked or I will get stabbed if I walk to Brixton. By all means say those places are no longer attractive to YOU but you don't need to then go over the line like you do. I expect if you came to a drinks now that may be the case - I'm unliklly to be there tho - And it certainly wasn't true when I've asked you. And there has been manay a person I've locked horns with on here who, when they did show up at a drinks, turned out to be far friendlier and inclusive than before. -

the world that exists in some people's heads.. frightening people don't call you a troll because they disagree with you Louisa - it's because you espouse so many ignorant and repugnant views (nuking peckham is repugnant by any standards. And saying that I will get stabbed and murdered walking to Brixton. And you deny you are a troll??) And you can't get away with calling a regular drinks meet a clique, when you have been asked to come along so many times. That isn't a clique, that is something going on that you choose not to go to But you do have a fan club on here I'll give you that I've argued with you many times over the years but I see many others have yet to encounter you in full flow - I would only advise them to save their breath -

Area near East Dulwich train station (West)
SeanMacGabhann replied to showa58taro's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
1. Is there a fair selection of stores/shops where you can get your shopping done? (Talking more daily groceries than anything else) Food wise you couldn?t be better off. Cheap freezer-shops, multiple grocery corner shops, 1 mega supermarket, 1 smallish supermarket, 2.5 butcher shops, fishmonger, bakers ? all here 2. Is there a pizza place and/or some fast food near East Dulwich trainstation? Plenty, and even better near the train station is one of the best. Il Mirto 3. Is this area fairly crime-free? (By this I mean, is it average, or am I moving to one of the rougher areas of London. As I say, new to London (am from Sweden, actually) and I would hate to move to an area that is well known for violent crime, mugging, theft, or general misbehaviour of some local gang or something) As you can imagine nowhere in London is free from any kind of crime, and London in particular tends to have leafy areas rubbing shoulders with much poorer areas. If you are so inclined you could read horror stories in the press (or in this forum) every day but in day to day living you wil lbe fine 4. Is East Dulwich generally a nice place to live? Are there nice local amenities like restaurants, pubs, parks, entertainment? Generally, yes. It has all of the things you mention, but other parts of London do some things better. Theatre and live music are much better catered for in North London for example and visually it isn?t much. But parks are all around us, and plenty of pubs and restaurants -

Depending on what people are carrying, walking isn?t out of the question is it? I used to live up by the library ? 15-20 mins to HH, another 10-15 to Brixton. Stress free, godo for you and guaranteed to be on time I?m not saying you should do it, just that it?s an option Oh and the 37 used to be MUCH worse, I think it?s pretty decent these days -

The Hope on Rye Lane - another "south London" boozer that, due to unprecedented lack of demand, has closed it's doors (last I heard anyway) -
ED pubs not selling traditional bar snacks
SeanMacGabhann replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyway, back in the real world, "Many of Walkers brands were formerly branded under the Smiths Crisps name. This comes from the time when Walkers, Smiths and Tudor Crisps were the three main brands of Nabisco's UK snack division with Tudor being marketed mainly in the north of England and Walkers in the south. After the takeover by Pepsico the Tudor name was dropped and the Smiths brand has gradually been phased out in favour of Walkers. The only products currently retaining the Smiths brand are Salt 'n' Shake, Salt & Vinegar and Ready Salted Chipsticks, Frazzles and the "Savoury Selection", which includes Bacon Flavour Fries, Scampi Flavour Fries and Cheese Flavoured Moments. " so it still exists - just isn't much traditional about it -

Bouncers Security. On Lordship Lane
SeanMacGabhann replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
On the other hand, if I head up to the Lane early on a Sunday morning for food, I quite like the hungover air which hangs around the place And spotting the obvious stopouts making their way home is oddly comforting too -

I?d agree with you too ? if I?m inside drinking then things never feel bad. I just notice it on the streets.. esp the corner of Payless as people hit the cold air and pick up ?supplies? or people unable to digest that late night kebab For clarity, I'm not knocking any pubs at all here. Just observing the atmos come closing time on the Lane -

They aren?t rough boozers in the old sense of what that meant, and pretty much all of them are fine for most of the week But what happens on a Friday or Saturday night is becoming more like what happens across the UK (and Ireland, and in increasing numbers of towns in Europe) in town centres where bars are grouped together ? they aren?t rough boozers themselves but there is a collective gathering of people for whom getting smashed is the whole purpose of the evening. That can happen anywhere and has happened to many people on here. But when a tipping-point in numbers of people is reached it can change the atmosphere of a place ? and that?s what we have on LL for a few hours each weekend -
Oh ? so are we saying John Smith?s doesn?t count then??? ( Joke)

Whilst there is no doubt room for improvement, I can think of many, many other parts of London which are much worse of than ED on the ale front The Plough seems to keep a pretty good ale selection going, and the last time I was in the Mag, they had a t least one Harvey?s in If you are near the Victoria and unhappy with the ales, the Montpelier a short chunder away has few in good nick Not sure what the ales in the CPT are like, but for a Youngs pub the Clock House does ok. And then you have the Herne

Store Closing Down- Filmnight
SeanMacGabhann replied to karter's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
so unlike others, you think one could survive? How is any DVD shop going to make any money with their customer base dwindling by the week? -
One would have thought the person sufficiently clued up to partly know the name would stand the best chance of knowing that too ;-) - I might drop the other location an email and see

Cheers Mick So, anyone who has posted more than twice on this thread is sufficiently interested for us all to head down on opening week?
