  1. to take that further Angie - what has EVER been "normal"? Things that were accepted (behaviourally rather than technology) as normal say 50 years ago would have been abhorrent to earlier generations The word "normal" has always struck me as particularly scary
  2. Oh I'm not disputing any of the facts as laid out QoD. And when giggirl says something I'm usually found nodding in agreement I was just... wondering if everything in life has to be pursued as someone elses fault and if, sometimes, our peace of mind (if not our wallet) isn't better served by acceptance rather than fighting for every "right" There was just something of the injury-claim advert about it - "Have YOU slipped on a wet floor in a public building? Was there adequate signage? Then YOU could be able to claim" etc etc I don't know anyone who sees those ads and thinks anything except "oh for the love of?." - and of course your case isn't as dramatic but it all seems to contribute to the same culture of blame and compensation and business introducing petty rules because they can't afford the risk of?whatever. Common sense might dictate that they painted the gym, at the weekend (maybe they did and it's slow drying paint?) but common sense might also suggest that a regularly visited gym with suspiciously fresh looking walls and a whiff of paint everywhere might mean keeping a lookout for the obvious, signs or no signs? I know that sounds like I'm having a go at you (and I really don't mean to) but I'm just trying to look at the situation objectively as a counterbalance
  3. felt-tip beat me to it, but I second Eynesford
  4. I met the hound for the first time at the last drinks - splendid company he is too sounds like it's going to be a decent turnout tonight as well
  5. Am I the only one who has done this (be it at a friends house or a premises) and thought it's my own damn fault and vowed to be more careful in future?
  6. As a topic, I thought it sounded more like an "About this forum" kinda subject from the get go - but there isn't any real reason why a serious Drawing Room type debate couldn't happen around it. It would be unlikely! - but not impossible But it is the Chair's decision - and remember the chair does change regularly Kel - you sound in a telling people what's what kind of way today - perhaps you could wing an application Admin's way?
  7. so despite admin responding several times on this subject, and couldn't be clearer, you think starting a thread is somehow helpful?
  8. has anybody been reading Darius Vassel's blog from Turkey - it's great stuff - even if I actually believe Ted Max is ghosting it ""Finally managed to get my Turkish bank card. I went to the cashpoint to change my pin number, etc and grab some lira for Yemeksepeti and was greeted with a Turkish wall of commands and instructions! I completely forgot that would possibly be the case and I couldn't find a button for INGLISSE (or something like that?). I tapped away at the machine like a crazed hacker as the people queuing behind me watched with a sense of curious suspicion. I gave up and pressed the red button to return my card" " The blog is here
  9. Tindersticks - Falling Down a Mountain Johnny Cash Mariachi style number? check? A couple of tracks that come from the best Northern Soul discos? Check Some jazzy workouts? Check Guest vocals from Mary Margaret O Hara? - check On constant play at my gaff? Oh yes... Full song streams here...
  10. dbboy - facts inform decisions and choices - they don't inherently mean anything. If you contract some horrible disease and you go to the doctor for help - he or she saying "well you have a horrible disease, it's a fact" isn't what you are after. What you are after is some joined up decision making which leads to the formulation of some cure AND a system which delivers that to you at minimum cost It IS a public forum and you are expressing your opinion - no one is preventing you - but if people disagree with you is there any need to get quite so defensive?
  11. quids - you're on! I have recently seen the Mode - can they even scale down to smaller gigs these days?? Should be good tho
  12. duplicate thread ongoing here
  13. coachella has been using Bowie's name for a couple of years - maybe not deliberately, but they have never been quick to dismiss them.
  14. Quote: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,197767,226206#msg-226206 Finally got around to this one (Michael Faber) - dear God it's good!!
  15. In response to giggirl's query on a different thread, the NME has this week given 2 pages to finding out what db is up to as well a short interview with the man The 2 pages amount to nothing more than the fact that he has been and is being extremely elusive since the heart thing in 2004 - , although one studio owner responds to a rumour about Bowie recording there with something along the lines of "you know I could never tell you if Bowie and Pete Murphy were recording here " - no-one mentioned Murphy so a slip of the tongue? I suspect not But in years gone by, it is puff articles such as this which point to the Bowie organisation cranking up for something. Personally I don't see Bowie ever doing a full solo show ever again - and yet, and yet In the same week, Danny Baker on his BBC London show has launched a Dame at the Dome campaign to bring? well you can figure it out for yourselves. Stranger is that the official Bowie website gave it a full mention. So I think something is stirring I've only just read flapjackdavey's comment above btw - so true. I was speaking to RosieH recently about Meltdown in 2002 - and she said pretty much the same thing about that night despite not being a Bowie fan per se
  16. I would say you don't know ????, benjaminty!! The man's favourite Bowie album is Low - and it was the K&D mix of useless that got his DM thang ON - so that should give you some idea..
  17. Almunia is a shadow of a man these days. he was never a great, but he was solid enough for 2 seasons.. now I hear he and Gallas won't even make eye contact. That situation is untenable for sure.
  18. I heard a faint whimpering noise in my living room yesterday evening and wondered what it was - turns out the stag had logged on to his 360 and was wearing his headset so it was coming through my speakers... ruined my evening I can tell you
  19. see - another cross-post fair cop
  20. genuinely unintentional - when I posted it was going to be #98 or something and I thought I would make the "gag" but cross postings meant by the time I refreshed it was just there... if the ref rules it offside I'll not contest it
  21. 100 yes - first in ages
  22. Just had a quick peek on the iTunes store for an app that will alert me to threads reaching mid-late 90s postings... I know quids is lurking, along with Mucky
  23. This times ten Whilst it's been a while since I was single (touch wood) I remember this phase like it was yesterday. And a number of friends (one in particular - non-ED person) has so little faith in herself that she bounces straight into another unsuitable relationship. I keep echoing PeckhamRose's comments to her and yet I had to listen to the same "why's" when it went wrong again..
  24. not sure I would try the best of 81-85 tho - they started to get experimental around 83 onwards but mostly to chirpy for me Black Celebration and Music for the Masses is where it started to get intersting The Goldrafpp mix of Halo is worth hunting out (as is the original track of course) if you are in that breathy K&D mood
  25. or Jose Antonio reyes for 13.5! And let's not even mention Franny Jeffers I think it's not so much stubborness (although he has that to burn) but his experience of going out to spend money hasn't resulted in many successes so why do it now. And knowing us we could spend 60 million tomorrow and they would be on the treatment table for 6 months That doesn't mean he is right, but I can understand his reluctance Quids and jimmy - i agree with you both - a keeper and a good striker would have made the world of difference - I just don't think it's that easy to get them
