always have to follow that market, no matter the consequences right?

so 2010 then - tickets on sale, 20+ acts announced, Wilco headlining I'm already booked and good to go. Did I hear a rumour that they might be moving from Larmer Tree Gardens? Would be a real shame if they did - it fits perfectly and if they are doing it to get "bigger" will it be the same Anyway... anyone else going ??

Tell it like it is rosie. We can put this weeks lucky 7s in the bucket marked A Good One

surely as rational beings we can manage the change rather than wait until it's too late and/or hope tech is up to speed? Even if we buy ourselves comparatively little time, that might be enough to make a difference? And by doing things which appear insignificant, collectively it concentrates the minds of governments/tech companies - their voters and consumers are demanding action. And I think this is what has happened - but now that governments are acting in our interests they are under fire from some quarters for making the issue "political" (whatever that means in this context)

roadworks are one factor but rushhour around Brixton and Clapham generally tend to be nightmarish I'm a big bus advocate but at that time of night I would skip the bus too. And overground train to Clapham High St takes about 10 minutes well. i haven't used it for a while so double check...

Oh no doubt quids. But they played to the whistle as teams are currently instructed to do terrible tackle, red card probably but I have no problem with the team playing on

so if the banks are rewarding the people who worked hard and didn't cause or take part in the activities which resulted in the meltdown, the pot of money should go to these guys and not the higher earners
-
Wasn't there a Bolton player on the ground for several minutes about 10 minutes after that incident, with Bolton in possession and they never once kicked it out of play? Seems a bit hypocritical of them to shout "unfair"

Some broad claims there quids. No public service improved dramatically in line with investment? really? And all the money that was available to fund public services was a result of the banking sector and not the general global economic outlook? And nor is anyone (much) suggesting bankers are evil. I don't consider myself such but what exactly is so wrong as to suggest to ANYONE (bankers or not) that you earn more than a good wedge, this country and it's education, infrastucture etc supported you and now that some restraint is in order all you do is bleat about the injustice of it all and bugger off somewhere else. If someone pays them a bonus of millions than by all means accept it , but if circumstances (and that could even mean a politically motivated bit of jealousy from a government) mean that said bonus gets taxed, maybe it's worth sucking it up for a year or two (you can always flick paperclips at the cleaners in the office at 6am if you need to let off steam) until the economy moves around again. You'll be alright mate.. you'll be fine. the people in the city earning 30-50k or so are not likely to get the kind of bonus that triggers the extra 50% tax anyway so that issue is moot surely?
-
is that a serious point dirtybox? Let's say everyone on less than 25k "got a job" in the city in some strange world where that is possible. Would those city salaries still be ?50k? course not Besides who is now doing the cleaning, the assisting, the caring and all the other menial rubbish jobs which are needed for society to function

Well, to be fair it is an industry which is more than happy to take credit during the good times and claim "yeah, we did that. We had to fight the government tooth and nail mind you but thanks to our hard work you can afford a TV on a credit card and we are rolling in it" When the whole thing went tits up precisely because of that arrogance and inflated sense of self worth it STILL manages to make it sound like they deserve every penny The number of people reading this forum who would crawl over your dead body to be able to dream of a salary of ?50k is probably far higher than you think - so if people on ?50k are struggling (with or without bonuses) imagine what people on low twenties and less are feeling I work in the industy in question and I don't feel picked on one little bit. If my boss tells me that I get no bonus and no pay rise I may not like it but given the state of the economy as a whole I'm not going to start saying I deserve it

will I get in trouble if I start calling him Ruaidhri? Congrats to all 3, now someone give that woman a break

What a fantastic british response to a particularly ugly wall and suggestions to tart it up Whilst I like the idea of covering it and enjoyed the joke re: using excel, is it THAT hard for people to just live a little? It's possible to travel around this world and see everything from vibrant murals to minimalist designs (a la this one) but as soon as you come back to England, urban living is just one big "meh" because people would rather say no and cry "liberal policies"! (I mean for F*** sake!!!) I don't LOVE any of the designs and I'm no good myself at design, but I sure would prefer any of them to what's there at the moment -
on a recent trip home, various discussions broke out about who my godparents were. All of the likely suspects were involved but no-one could be sure so we just shrugged and moved on Moral is: godparents = nothing to sweat about But the fact that you have several godchildren already should be reason enough and if the person asking you this time isn't aware enough to take that on board, what kind of friend are they?

Indeed KK, but if the people at the time were GENUINELY against the DKH store, it wouldn't have succeeded It reminds me of the current action by Man U fans to suggest boycotting the ground until the Glazers leave - talk is easy, actions are different So again, I'm inclined to think British people like to moan about things but are less keen on doing anything which might actually influence the outcome

if the story about Campbell suing is true then he is indeed, as keef says... etc But something about that story, on top of the court decision yesterday makes me think this is the work of somebody else. I have no idea who or why but i wouldn't be surprised to learn that Campbell hasn't sued anyone in weeks to come

On the other side of the coin tho, you have seen on this forum how people have been very supportive of Vals shop up by the library. I know when rumours of a supermarket started they were out of their minds with worry, but people have been so willing to be supportive they are currently on a high I guess it shows that actions > lip-service

even LadyMacGabhann was commenting on the crowd last night. Great cuptie and nicely setup for the second leg Most Hammers fans seem happy with yesterday's developments and as I want them in the top tier I hope it works out. Although I don't trust SulliGold at all, and nothing to do with their other business interests

Conflating a lot of things there magpie, not all of which are related - although I hear where you are coming from I'm not sure for example wether the French would be able to prevent any of their companies being taken over And the demise of the british pub can largely be laid at the feet of the British people who stopped going in numbers (a trend in evidence a long time before the smoking ban) But I do recall when all the building societies were trying to become banks and asking their customers (by offering them a couple of hundred quid) that your average British punter seemed keener on the dosh than on any benefits of being a stakeholder in a mutual I hear a lot of emoting about british culture but it appears to be of the not-wanting-to-contribute-to-the-culture-just-y'know-claiming-the-good-bits variety As for Cadburys going? Any takeover is likely to see job losses. If Cadbury took over Rowntree instead of nestle's the same would happen and it would still be unfortunate for those losing their jobs but at least we wouldn't have to worry about the "foreigners" argument in the press and * slaps forehead * facebook petitions

Southwark Parking Wardens - setting a poor example
SeanMacGabhann replied to Gimme's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wouldn't disagree loz - but that is still talking about invalid tickets. the thread is about whether wardens should be allowed to park on lines or otherwise illegally -

Yep there is a problem with the ticket-writing/out-sourcing/money-making culture loz But to focus on that alone is to ignore the other side of the problem -
Southwark Parking Wardens - setting a poor example
SeanMacGabhann replied to Gimme's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm certainly not trolling and nor did I argue that being poorly payed ALLOWED them to do anything - I mention their pay merely to point out that there seems to be this sense of them doing it for fun and that is fairly unlikely But I'm also disappointed you have ignored all my previous posts where I agree that many tickets ARE wrongly issued and I have a fair amount of sympathy with that argument. I have even had this discussion with you before - but you have ignored that just to say "sean hates cars" - which is plain wrong in any case But this thread isn't about that - it's about why they are allowed to break the parking laws and we aren't - and I stand by the argument that it's effectively the same thinking as police chasing joyriders. Now if they do all that just to give you a dodgy ticket then I'm on your side... but I haven't seen too much about that on this thread -
Southwark Parking Wardens - setting a poor example
SeanMacGabhann replied to Gimme's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is beginning to sound like joyriders complaining that the police are driving faster than 30mph to catch them - boo hoo Given how many people deliberately go out of their way to break the law, I can easily see why a relatively small number of badly-paid, over-abused staff need to take short cuts to get the job done Given that parking spaces are so precious, if you had to do their job, how effective would you be if you had to drive around looking for parking spaces before walking back a few hundred metres and back to catch someone. So no, I don't believe they are in the same boat and subject to the same rules as us If we abandoned the whole idea of these wardens, and they weren't around to park in silly places the traffic and parking would be worse not better.
