  1. Anyone aware of any of the local bars planning on showing the fight? Its a sky sport box office show Cheers
  2. Glad to see the intrest has started early. Overwhelmed with relief that Barry Bear is safe if not as sound as he was. Have not contacted the Plough or Clockhouse in regards to this but if memory serves from last year they were keen to be involved, do they post or participate on the EDF does anyone know? Invite below, as always, all welcome (except those running club beasts from last year, ringers that they are): Dear Runners and Riders Once again the time is nearly upon us for the highlight of the summer, the race which I know most of you have been training all year for. The culmination of all those boozy Saturday sessions and running for all those busses. Yes the Barry Barry Road Race is back! Now for those of you new comers to this great event, I direct you to the attached word doc that will provide info on the concept of the race (see above post). But the bones of it is thus; The race starts from the top of Barry Road in East Dulwich at the Plough pub at 1300 hours but pre dinking, drinking commences from opening time: http://theploughdulwich.co.uk/ 1 pint and 1 shot of competitors choosing (1/2 pint or bottle at the ladies discretion) must be consumed as fast as possible before running commences. Its then a quick dash down Barry road for 0.8 miles until we reach the finishing line of The Clockhouse pub at the bottom of Barry road: http://www.clockhousepub.com/ However the race doesn't finish until a 2nd pint and shot of competitors choosing is consumed as fast as possible. The winner is the first one to finish the run, 2nd pint and shot. Last year was the inaugural race and was a resounding success, even though we were infiltrated and it was won by ringers. The prize is the, now legendary, Barry Barry Bear (only if we can locate last year's winner and prise it off him) and of course the glory. The rest of the day is for yourself but last year saw a great session in the clockhouse with BBQ blazing and then an even better evening session in Bar Story where piggy back racing and barrel walking were both prominent events. So why break from such a winning tradition. The date of the event is Saturday June 13th and the starting gun will go off at 1300 hours. Please confirm with a Yay or Nay your attendance Photo's of last year's event can be found at - http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=39040&id=595206862&l=15b2923217 Please forward on to anyone you think would be interested and those I have missed. See ya on the start line friends
  3. I live at the Harvester end of LL and am up at 5.30 most mornings and have been hearing the bird too. Doesn't wake me as I'm normally up or too hungover but it does remind me of one of my fav Seasick Steve songs - Rooster Blues "Hey Mr Cock-a-doodle do You better just watch what you do Cos if I don't get my beauty sleep Somethin' bad gonna happen to you"
  4. Well speaking as a participant, in my 30's, I for one, had absolutely nothing better to do that day as Rosscoe's Maw wasn't around
  5. Maybe away on holibags. Will know nearer the time
  6. Ditto on the running comment Floating Onion. Surfbobby loves a pub crawl but has now decided he hates running. Will try and fit in with whatever dates are decided Haven't seen anyone mention the Vale as part of the route.....
  7. Paul - did your memory fail before or after The Bald Eagle stole your bike and you were convinced it was a goner? We satyed in Bar Story for a good while (rest of the day) and we discussed at length whether humans were borth good or bad, employing some quite colourful language at points to get our point across. Not sure what time you left at but it was after a jolly decent session. How's the planning coming on for next year?
  8. Am a big fan of the Candyman show, although I rate Baylen and Amy, David Croe(sp?) is without a doubt my favourite contributer. I once heard the best ever Bear story on danny's show HonaB - You don't get the doors? Well, I feel bad for ya man, perhaps you should try again
  9. Here's some pics from the day, the first few are of the Runners and Riders and the rest, well the rest depict the aftermath. Big thanks to all those who took part, turned up and cheered on, esp the Backroom Support Staff (oh and to Hibbs for a lift up the road when the legs could take no more) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=39040&l=15b29&id=595206862
  10. I'm so impressed at how early some of you are up. I'm going back to bed to get an extra 20 mins kip before the race. See y'all at the starting line...
  11. As last post, went last year and loved it, going again this year with bells on. Car is full up though, perhaps some form of ED Convoy could be organised. We are leaving early Friday and coming back on Monday too. Look out for Seasick Steve and Elbow, have seen them both live recently and they have been amazing. Also Rich Hall's alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw is a must for the comedy tent, for he will regale you with songs like - "In the Dark, he almost looks like You" (a love song about prison rape) "Do anything you want to the girl, just don't hurt me" and "Women call it Stalking" 10-4 Rubber Duck
  12. Myself and Help-Ma-Boab are going to try to make our first EDF drinks. We'll be the guys drinking OJ and Water, in preparation for tomorrow's big race
  13. There was a film production company from Clapham interested in broadcasting the event. I told them it was a stricktly ED affair thankyouverymuch
  14. So the bar has been set by the aptly named LostThePlot who is indending on running 4 min miles. Mate Good Luck, Gawd Bless, you can have the effing Bear. I'm with SMG, under 10 and I'll be happy, injury free and I'll be even happier (there's some dirty fighters taking part) And it looks like the other bar will be set by Hannah6_6, many thanks to you Hannah. There will be a couple of other support staff (please bring your own High Viz Jackets)on hand too, so mucho gratis for that. No worries on the hangover front as we are breathalising all participants and those showing no signs of hangover will be made to down 2 pints (I reckon we make LostThePLot down 3 just for bringing 4 mins into the conversation ;-) ) Its shaping up folks, just don't let those nerves get to you, wouldn't want anyone to choke...well not from nerves anyway
  15. Attention Runners and Riders The time is nearly upon us for the sporting event of the year, Olympics - pah, we don' neeeed your steeenkeen Olympics. The Barry Barry Road Race! (add fan fair as required) So here's the low down, the nitty gritty, the durty details. Its very simple - Meeting Point - The Plough Start time - Gun goes off at 1300 GMT, however it is essential that you are there earlier in order to organise your beverages, 1230 should cover it. Finish time - Up to you, your fitness and your drinking capabilities. If you've not reached the Clockhouse by 1730, we'll see you in Bar Story. If we don't see you in Bar Story we'll inform the President, however search parties will not be deployed. If you think you are likely to get lost, keel over, get run down or kidnapped, best organise a buddy to keep an eye out for you. Good luck finding someone within this fierce competitive arena. Dress Code - Whatever you want. I'll be wearing crocodile clips on my nipples, but that's nothing to do with the Race The Prize - The Barry Barry Road Race Bear from Berlin, courtesy of The Bald Eagle (with the orthopaedic shoe) And that's it folks, couldn't be simpler but I'm confident we'll manage to make it difficult. Support staff are required to organise the drinks at the Clock house end. Those who aren't running but attending can you please make yourself know to me either by email or on the day. We need your help... So, if you haven't started training now, don't bother, its too late, just dig out your running shoes and your drinking pants cos the Race......is on (again add fanfair where required) Kind Regards and Good Luck SB
  16. Whatever blows yer kilt up Sean, I for one will be taking this very seriously indeed and bringing my running shoes. Myself and Help Ma Boab are going to try and make the EDF drinks, so hopefully get to meet a few of you in friendly social circumstances, before it all gets competitive :)-D
  17. Well for those that are up for the race, the Gun goes off at the Plough at One O'Clock but you should be there a good bit before hand to get your drinks sorted. It's a Pint and a shot of your choosing to be downed at both Plough and Clockhouse. Hopefully our support staff will be able to arrange to have our Clockhouse drinks waiting at the finish line. Keep on Running SB
  18. Used to work in London Bridge, a total breeze, but now work in Stockley Park, an industrial estate near Heathrow. For the first year I took public transport consisting of: Bus to ED/FOH Train station Train to Lon Bridge Jubilee to Baker St Bakerloo to Paddington Train from Pad to Hayes and Harlington Bus from H&H to Stockley Park Twice a day All in all 2 hours at rush hours and 1.5 hours when all goes smooth, normally the milkmen aren't even up though It was starting to crack me up, so I drive now
  19. Scotslass - you could always attend the running highlight of the summer, The Barry Barry Run. A fair few Scots runners in attendence
  20. Apologies if this is in any way tone lowering but it certainly made me laugh. When I asked a friend how his date went he replied with "I gave her a face like a painters radio"
  21. Hi Shaun and Nutty I play squash at Jags and would be up for a game sometime. Drop me a pp if you're keen Cheers Bobby
  22. Can you get a pint at 10 am to go with your brekkie?
  23. Katy, I too believed you and doubt very much that you are plain :)) How about a Columbo themed bar...hang on, drunk old men in dirty mac's harassing people for "one more thing"? Perhaps not
