  1. If you have an eating disorder, go to your doctor. Or, go on this show so you can parade around in your pants, and temporarily swap your diet for an equally unhealthy one.
  2. Crushed and devalued! Of course!
  3. Possibly the most obvious fake recommendation I've ever seen. Although nowhere near as funny as the classic Vale post. Can anyone remember the exact words they used to describe their experience in another pub?

Come on guys, this isn't even raoulmoatly funny.

  6. My last car was a write-off... I printed out dealerships' listings for cars of similar spec/age, sent it to the insurance company, and they gave me exactly the sum I asked for. Quite surprising really.
  7. Glenn Medeiros
  8. Sazzle's summary sounds good, my car is almost as ancient, and insurance/tax/mot/servicing works out at around ?1000 a year. Depreciation obviously not a concern for me. If you're going to be doing significant mileage, petrol will be your largest expense (~15p a mile?)
  9. There's a pretty good thread about a burglar alarm. And the co-op discussion is always fun.

  12. Keef, DC - you're both decent blokes, but you're both partly to blame for winding each other up! So let's just call it a stalemate on this one. Please bring back Huguenot, there was a man who knew how to talk down to people! How I'd cringe when I read his posts...
  13. The work on the estate has been in the pipeline for 15 years?? Surely a typo? James, are you able to give contact details for the council officers responsible for the development?
  14. I can't work out whether DulwichMum is posting "in character" or not. I always thought that having an au pair was one of her jokes. Anyway, doesn't all this nonsense belong in the Family Room?
  15. It's not getting worse, East Dulwich is still a relatively safe area (Peckham not so much). Hip hop and video games are not as much of a problem as apathetic or absent parents.
  16. Capital Radio One - The Clash
  17. Is Alex K a spam-bot?
  18. That makes more sense than your original statement (that one third of working people couldn't afford the average rent). I think most of us realise that the cost of housing vs the average income is a problem.
  19. "The average private sector rent in all areas of the country is too high for 33% of those working" This is rather a pointless statistic. The cheaper-than-average properties have to be inhabited by someone - presumably by those people on lower salaries. Or should all property be the same price?
  20. Yep. The rules state that if you commit a foul in the area, you give away a penalty. He was playing the game according to the rules. Sure, what he did is not in the spirit of the game, but I don't think it's "cheating" as such. Of course, it's alright when England bend the rules slightly. Remember when Sheringham dived against Greece, in a qualifier for the 2002 world cup? Beckham scored from the free kick, meaning England progressed into the competition. The reaction of the media - "Sheringham used all his experience there"! If anything this is worse, as England deliberately tricked the referee.
  21. Mango is my favourite fruit, alongside pineapple. They are almost always under-ripe in the supermarket though.
  22. Good point DaveR. The ratings agencies have been slammed because their ratings on mortage backed securities turned out to be wildly optimistic... this surely had a big part to play in the financial crisis. The increase in credit spreads reflects a more realistic assesment of the risk. Not much comfort to garden man, though.
  23. Asakusa - Japanese restaurant in Mornington Crescent. You need to book though. Wagamama's not exactly my favourite place to eat, but on the plus side, you know that you're going to get something OK-ish for not a lot of cash.

This would result in properties in desirable areas being owner-occupied, while those in less desirable areas would be rented. It wouldn't really be a step forward.
  25. Yeah but even if those families were previously paying a high rate of tax, I still don't get it. The benefits system is not like some sort of piggy-bank you pay into, and then dip into when you need it... it is there to protect those in need. Anyway... I'm in favour of the cap...
