  1. Completely that tax evasion is a far bigger problem than benefits fraud. It also seems some how more socially acceptable (e.g. paying tradesmen in cash), which is ridiculous. But, of course that doesn't make benefits fraud right. Nothing to do with putting the boot in. I quite like the idea of putting up rents for council tenants who no longer need subsidised housing. It would need an appropriate sliding scale, so people don't feel penalised when their income improves.
  2. OK thanks - it hasn't on previous occasions, but presumably it has now been improved.
  3. Closures on Sunday are a regular occurance, but people don't always think to search the live departures and engineering works sections. It's ridiculous that the main timetable/journey planner doesn't tell you that the trains aren't running.
  4. I think they're just "setting the scene", explaining why the area has a bad reputation in the media. But it's a very cheap shot.

  7. I see it's not just the noise DJKQ is concerned about, it's also hot food and hot (non-alcoholic) drinks! Her concern knows no bounds!

It reminded me of in places of Matrix, Strange Days, Waking Life, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Vanilla Sky, Total Recall, and plenty of others. But... there are far worse films to be reminded of.
  9. elderflower... it seems to me as though you are commenting on a "club" which you don't belong to, suggesting that the members do something else with their time. It's rather like criticising a wine tasting group for not drinking beer instead. Or suggesting that the cricket club switch to mixed volleyball. If you don't like it, don't join.
  10. The last one looks awesome.
  11. I always insist on spending at least 75p on a pie!
  12. Really enjoyed my meal at Franklins last month, and the portions were good for the price. Didn't notice any squirrel on the menu, but I'd have no problem eating it. 100% markup on wine is very good, sounds too good to be true actually. 200% is commonplace, 300% in posher places.
  13. Selfridges food hall...
  14. There is no truth to it. Lots of local residents would love it, but I'm sure lots of others would prefer to keep the Iceland. Personally... not really that bothered (although the "dine in for ?10" can be useful)
  15. If you want Next, Gap, etc, why not just go into central London or down to Bromley/Croydon?
  16. Will the lynx wear the cage-fighter gloves too?
  17. I hate the word "alternative".

  19. Ted is on fire (metaphorically) today...
  20. Some people have accused the EDF of being elitist, but I don't see it at all.
  21. Surely you mean "crulty to animals"?
  22. ruffers, DJKQ - I am not the kind of person to complain about people not sticking to the rules if it is not hurting anyone. That's obviously the difference here...
  23. Cut it out DJKQ, local residents have already said that they aren't bothered my the folk nights.
  24. Pity. I think this one is a myth - he used to crunch on carrots to get the sound effect, and them spat them out... but only because eating it would leave a long gap in the dialogue.
