  1. I don't think it's particularly accurate to say that the Royal Court has relocated to E&C... I assumed that the shopping centre, along with the revolting sub-pavement area which homes the market would all be destroyed as part of the redevelopment work.
  2. Surely eventually we're going to run out of ratios of water/coffee/milk to give stupid names to.
  3. I don't think it's too late at all. I spoke to Diana Hall who suggested filling out the attached form and sending it to her at [email protected] - even if you were unable to attend the event. I'm also rather concerned about car parking, both because the plans appear to build over an existing car park, and because the new flats do not seem to incorporate any parking of their own.
  4. Of course this will stick in the throat for a lot of people who feel they're being "punsihed", but the important thing is that the benefit will still go to the families who need it most. I'm not sure why the chief executive of "Child Poverty Action Group" feels it necessary to comment on people earning over 44k. As for the wait until 2013... I don't think it's some sort of cynical vote-winning tactic. If that's what they were aiming for, I don't think they'd leave it until closer to the next election. Edited to say - I agree with silverfox, in that it would make more sense if total household income was considered instead of the highest earner.
  5. I've only ever been to two of them... but thanks Georgia, hopefully someone else will pick up the baton.
  6. Ahem... "pawn".
  7. Diagrams: From Pytchley Road: From Bromar Road:
  8. I got the following info from the council: So yes, It looks like in addition to the corner site (current derelict block), they will be building on the "cage" and the adjacent car park. I have some drawings, but unfortunately the forum won't let me attach any files right now! Diana Hall (0207 525 7724) has taken over from Cidi Greenaway as the lead officer for the project.
  9. Shame. I liked Pistachio Club.
  10. If you want a good choice of cider, go the the Hermits Cave. Somthing like 10 ciders on tap. (but that's not a secret either)
  11. The text search (and "all posts by author" feature) is broken.

    Zippos Circus ..

    Not exactly an unbiased article...
  13. Is it under new management, or just a name change?
  14. Have either of you tried calling the phone number on the original letter? I have tried a couple of times, but there was no answer. I have also tried emailing Councillor Peter John and his PA Janice Miller - as well as Katherine Pitt (Community Council Development Officer), who has been fairly helpful in the past. I'll let you know if I get anywhere. Also... what do you both think about the new houses which have been built next to the railway, through the archway next to (I think) 119 Ivanhoe Road? Both the design and location seem rather unusual to me.

Actually I did steal food from the fridge once, but only in retaliation. Unfortunately things escalated rather badly from there, and it got to the point where everyone basically gave up using the fridge. Anyway, back to the original subject... I rarely give to beggars these days. I have done so in the past, only for the begger to ask for more money, and get aggressive. Unfortunately I think the genuine cases are in the minority.
  16. gavster Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > apart from three years at university when I met lots of people like you. And you call me patronising?? The "I don't know how long you've lived in London" was not supposed to be patronising, just stating surprise that anyone living in London would be shocked by this half-arsed attempt at begging.
  17. Gavster, to be honest I'm surprised you posted this. I don't know how long you've lived in London, but of all the stories I've heard from beggers, money to call a psychiatric nurse is hardly the most devious.
  18. I think LL is mainly alright in the evenings, but a bit lairy on a Saturday.
  19. I got a letter through the post the other day about a design consultation for the redevelopment of this site (and others nearby). I was out of the country at the time, but am interested to find out what the plans are. Both in terms of design, and in terms of the council/private mix. Did anyone go to the consultation? Or have any further info? The contact on the letter is Cidi Greenaway, but I can't get through to her number.

  21. Take away the "deep end" sign, clearly signal the depth of the pool. Then if someone dives in and hits their head, it's their own fault. The tumble-turn argument is not valid, as they are always performed at both ends of the pool - so clearly not dependant on deep water.
  22. Similar to Bob... I post on here because I'm lazy and don't like work. My job is boring, and this helps pass the time. If the EDF didn't exist, I'm sure I would land on another forum instead.
  23. mrs.lotte Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > too shallow for serious swimmers. I still don't get it. Surely if they are that "serious" then they won't need to stand up, so the depth is irrelevant.
  24. I've never really been comfortable with patriotism. There's a thin line between loving your country and believing that it's superior to other nations, and from there on you're in dodgy territory. I feel a certain amount of affection for the place I've lived my whole life, but looking at it objectively, I can't see that it has much going for it over other developed countries. And I find it hard to muster any deep affinity with the majority of the population.
  25. Yes there probably is insincerity on this forum, and I've only ever been to a couple of the forum "socials" because smalltalk with strangers isn't really my bag. So I kind of understand what axeman is on about. But plenty of people enjoy the drinks, so why criticise? I don't get it.
