  1. There is a charity raising funds for the running of the hospital: http://givingtokings.org.uk/ It's not a new thing.
  2. Twirly Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Jeremy - how can you be sure it's not the economic climate? The Kings College charity is not new. Most hospitals have been taking online donations for quite a while now. Local fundraising events for hospitals are not rare. Sure, the current climate might make things particularly difficult, or perhaps they are anticipating tough times ahead, hence the letter.
  3. It is common for hospitals to raise money through charity. It's not cheeky, neither is it a symptom of the economic climate... just a symptom of hopsitals not getting enough funding!
  4. I quite like the US version of the Office. It's not as funny or cringeworthy as the original, and it's definitely been quite heavily modified for the American audience, but it's still entertaining (much more so than the majority of Steve Carell's movie roles).
  5. No, you're quite wrong Sean. People in modern pubs only drink tap water.
  6. If you implement it, please make it optional!
  7. I don't believe that squirrels killed with warfarin are sold as meat. Is there any reliable source for this (i.e. not animals rights propaganda). Talk of "beautiful wild animals" does nothing to help the cause. Whether you think an animal is beautiful or not should have no bearing on whether it is appropriate to eat them.

Big assumption. If prices were the same, then the latter is better. But prices (of pretty much anything) wouldn't be the same!

    They lie!!

Doesn't make sense. In fact if it was sorted through the other guy's insurance, you shouldn't even need no claims bonus protection! When you're filling in your applications for other insurers, shouldn't you be filling it in with no claims instead of one "no fault" claim? It wasn't settled through your own insurance, so you haven't actually made any claims.
  10. Income Equality and Financial Crises... almost all economies are cyclical in nature. It just so happens that the most cyclical industries are often some of the most profitable ones (i.e. finance). It therefore follows that during the up-turn of a cycle, inequality will increase - until we reach the down-turn! The nature of the economy causes the pattern in inequality. In the most recent financial crisis, sub-prime borrowing by lower earners seems to have been a major catalyst in the down-turn. But who is more to blame for that? Lower earners desparate to own a home, or irresponsible lenders who gave them mortgages (knowing that they could sell the risk into the market)? I would say the latter. Greed was a larger factor than poverty.
  11. You have your own sailor? Cool.
  12. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Liverpool is NOT derelict True! In fact I would say at least 60% of it is not derelict.

  14. TonyQuinn Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why go to Brixton or Stockwell in the first place? Gigs (both large and small), a cracking cinema, bars/clubs, restaurants, wide range of shops, Brockwell Lido. Maybe it's not the nicest area of London, but plenty of reasons to go there. And as SMG says, it is walkable - maybe 40 minutes from the library.

  16. Let's be honest though, what is the average wait for the 37? I used to use it regularly, half hour waits were common. It's a last resort for me, I'm afraid.
  17. Travelling to Brixton is a pain, even from "proper/lower ED"! From the library, I would suggest walking through the Village to North Dulwich, and picking up the 37 bus there. Or, as you say, driving. I doubt the cycle scheme will make it down here, those bikes won't last 10 minutes in south London.
  18. Is "the Smith's range of Scampi Fries" actually traditional?
  19. Loz, I get your point about the envronmental impact of an increasing population. But what measures can you put in place, and how can you enforce them?
  20. I really don't think the UK is over-populated. There are 50 other counties - small/large, rich/ poor which are much more densely populated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_and_dependencies_by_population_density Density of population is not an issue, as long as we have the housing and infrastructure to support it. But what do you mean by "from all sources"?
  21. So Brendan wants an enormous bath in his garden, and ImpetuousVrouw wants a retarded lad holding a cat.

Kruger, how do you pronounce the "slough" in "falling into a slough"?
  23. Pretty much. Apart from the enormous hard drives. You won't need to store a movie or TV show on your hard drive if you can get it on-demand!
  24. "Not sure". So you'd think it over?
  25. Instant playback in HD is also available through Virgin TV. Surely only a matter of time before the majority of us are hooked up to something like this or the xbox service. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to access virtually any film you can think of.
