  1. This is completely incorrect. Just because it's on the internet doesn't make it true. Different colours are just different frequencies of light. The water vapour disperses the coloured components of white light at different angles. There is no illusion.
  2. Ha, it was actually cheese on toast. *Bob* followed it up with beans. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,80958,81014#msg-81014
  3. What happened to that guy who claimed to be a chef, who - without irony - posted a recipe for beans on toast?
  4. No idea who owns the Police Station, Sue. Perhaps it's government owned. There have been rumours about it closing down ever since I moved here. But the costs involved would be astronomical, that land must be worth a couple of million... not to mention the huge refurb job.
  5. DulwichFox, I would argue that a rainbow is not an illusion. The separation of the spectrum through refraction is a physical phenomenon. So there.
  6. I doubt they'll be enough interest, with no British fighter involved. I imagine a couple of places might be showing Haye/Harrison though.
  7. Stanley, what sort of PA have you arranged? Is it just a small vocal PA, or something more substantial?
  8. As featured on Gordon Ramsay's "Best Restaurant" show last year...
  9. You're right kingy, there doesn't seem to be a huge appetite for live music round here. Glad to hear that the Jailhouse has an open minded genre policy, in my defence I never suggested that you only put on one type of music. But I think you'd agree that a bunch of students with asymmetric haircuts - churning out a wall of feedback punctuated by random electronic noises and incomprehensible yelps - might be slightly out of place...
  10. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "We live here" were you just talking about yourself? Primarily yes, but I imagine most people around here feel the same way... especially when they've just missed the 11:18pm train from London Bridge.
  11. :)-D Incidentally, 200 doesn't sound like much for a big room like the DHFC. Is that all seated? If so, have you considered doing a mix of seated and standing?
  12. aquarius moon, I appreciate the sentiment behind this thread, but it's hard to take it seriously when you proclaim yourself to be the official spokesperson for insects.
  13. I get the impression that ST&NLY is looking to offer something a little different in terms of vibe and musical direction. The Goose do folk gigs, The Jailhouse is kind of r&b based...
  14. I think Medley's a lot more honest than some others. Nice as East Dulwich is, not many of us would choose to live here if money was no object. We live here despite the relatively poor transport, not because of it.

    Driving

If you're not overtaking, you should be in the inside lane. It says so in the highway code - you were definitely in the wrong, I'm afraid! Not saying that it's right to overtake at a ridiculous speed while sticking your fingers up at someone either...
  16. The problem isn't that people are selling cloths and stuff to make a living. The problem is that they are selling poor quality, over-priced crap pretending it's for charity.
  17. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I can't see how a tube would be any different in practice from > the existing overground to London Bridge As people have said, the main difference is the frequency. Actually the train service is pretty good for getting to/from work, but in the evenings and Sundays it sucks.
  18. Look on the bright side JohnL - you're sorted if you need mobile phone accessories, yams, or hair extensions.
  19. Selling these places is a slippery slope. The longer they are standing empty, the less appealling they are for buyers, because they appear to be virtually unsellable. They probably will have to knock them down to something like ?175k just to get a sale. In the meantime... usually I am rather anti-squatting, but after all these years, there's no reason to believe that the legit owner will need them back any time soon.
  20. A tube would of course be great (especially given the terrible Sunday and evening services on the train), but it will never happen. I'm sure tunelling through South London is technically possible these days, but it would be such a mammouth project, it's almost unthinkable. There's no such thing as an area which is nice, affordable, close to the centre, and with a tube. Because if there was, everybody would want to live there, so it wouldn't be affordable for very long. If you want somewhere affordable with a tube, East London is the way to go (but most of it is not very nice).
  21. Also... we don't really have "all cuisines except Italian", do we?

    X Factor

Bob, you might know something about this... how much do you think Cowell makes from ITV for the show itself, and how does that compare to the revenue from record sales?

  24. For a while the guy was seen as a bit of a joke, but I think the public have warmed to him post Heather Mills. And people have started to realise that perhaps Wings weren't really all that bad.
