  1. The first Nightmare On Elm Street was excellent. of course the sequels (which Wes Craven has nothing to do with) were terrible.

Is that 50% of all 18-24 year olds in HE at any given time? Or 50% of all 18-24 yr olds are in, or have had HE?
  3. Yes it is certainly uninspiring, but still infinitely better than having a derelict building on the corner. I think we need to stay away from arguments based on personal taste, and focus on practicality.
  4. Did you all get the latest email from Diana Hall? The huge 9MB mail with several detailed PDFs attached... They've not really addressed the parking issue adequately IMO. Apparently the "cage" will be relocated somewhere else within the estate, and the existing lawns will be flattened out to make them more useable.
  5. The Descent is a good example of a trad "monster movie" type horror. Rec is another one. It has become rather cliche to say so, but the original Ringu, and Ju-On were really quite scary. Audition is a great thriller, and pretty disturbing... but I wouldn't really describe it as horror, or actually scary. See also Wicker Man.
  6. If it happens again, go and get your camera. If he succeeds in getting in, you'll have a great photo of his startled face as the flash goes off.

I've been playing RE5 with the move controller, and loving it. Although the game is probably a bit weaker than RE4.

    X Factor

I wouldn't mind this show so much if they didn't all sing nothing but cover versions throughout, and when one of them eventually releases a single, it's yet ANOTHER bloody cover! This show has nothing to do with creativity - hell, it has precious little to do with music at all.
  9. I have it. I've had a cough/cold for a few days, with a sore throat and chest. Felt very weak and dizzy yesterday. Feeling a bit better today, but still coughing a lot.
  10. I'm surprised anyone was interested in the Chisora/Klit fight in the first place... the best case scenario was that Chisora would get smacked around the ring for 3 or 4 rounds. It was probably the least competitive - and least interesting - fight on the whole sky lineup tonight.
  11. They probably won't be in the ring until 4am...

Absolutely, of course it should. But a 3 year degree programme is not necessarily the right environment or format for such things. I just think that Universities should be centres of excellence... you might call that elitist, I really think the tuition fees will be a barrier to entry for many. A step back to the fundamentals would at least make it sustainable.
  13. University eductation should be free, but with fewer courses and places. Degrees should be in academic subjects, for the brightest n%. I don't agree with students having to pay 9k a year tuition fees, but neither do I agree in paying for students who are just there for the ride.

    The Euro

Going back to the original point... it's disingenuous to say that the left were not interested in serious debate, when many on the right in the anti-Euro camp were putting forward silly arguments about national identity and suchlike.
  15. Looking at Streetview, it appears to be a single yellow line...
  16. LadyTaTa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I haven't been to Galvin at Windows, I'd love to > hear what that's like. The food is very good, the cooking was hard to fault. Fantastic view. But it's a pretty typical London fine dining menu... sometimes these places can seem a little deja-vu. Foie gras terrine, ballotines of stuff, a puree here, a foam there. Guaranteed formula for a Michelin star. Lovely to eat, but nothing new.
  17. How does La Chapelle compare to Galvin At Windows? Interesting you found the food at Maze weird... when we went, I thought most of the dishes were fairly convetional.
  18. Business as usual for Royal Mail, then.
  19. Sean, that link's a bit different... they're talking about selling t-shirts door-to-door. The OP's caller seemed to be asking for investment in her business. It does sound as though she might have mental problems. Or perhaps she'd just had a tough day, getting turned away by everybody, and finally cracked. Either way, I wouldn't feel too guilty.
  20. Salter's Duck was 70s technology, and the costs didn't add up. But it was a pioneering project nonetheless, and there are many other, more viable, modern systems.
  21. Oh sorry... restaurants. We really enjoyed Viajante the other day. An interesting and unique menu, with diverse influences. It has been accused of being pretentious - and some of the waiters were wearing daft art-student clothes - but the food was fantastic, and we both loved it. There's a very nice little bar there too, with reasonable-ish prices.

  23. As Bic Basher said - there is a half-hourly service running now.
  24. I can understand the disruption... but it's extremely frustrating when we have absolutely no idea when the service will be available again.
  25. The council can only store a limited amount of grit. If they gritted all the side roads, they'd run out of grit pretty quickly. Then what happens if it snows again?
