  1. legalbeagle - if you ask me, I actually think my post is more constructive than the other, sarcastic responses. It does look a little bit like you have a personal issue with me.

  3. Jono - sorry to hear your snowman got trashed, but are you really surprised? And honestly, it's not realistic to leave a scarf and hat outside on your snowman, and expect them to still be there in the morning.
  4. That's so sad, it must have been awful. It makes me so angry. If they have her house keys, I hope she's had her locks changed.
  5. If anybody can lend me a shovel (Ivanhoe Rd) please send me a PM! Thanks.
  6. Just drove back from Brighton. Roads are all driveable, but of course there are icy and snowy patches, so don't drive unless it's essential. Buses are running (I saw a 176 and a 185 along LL).
  7. Looks like the trains are moving again now.
  8. Snow has stopped, roads absolutely fine. I was also on the train behind the one that broke down, so was able to get off at PR.

  10. I agree with DJKQ... given the situation, all this speculation doesn't sit easily with me.

  14. Got my work do tonight... some hideous, pretentious black tie thing. Last time, they did a random table plan, so I was sat on a table with 9 people I couldn't stand. If it happens tonight, I'm grabbing a bottle and going home.

  17. The problem is, how do you build something new which matches (or at least compliments) Victorian terrace housing? Do you have any examples we can see (e.g. on Google Streetview)?

  19. giggirl, it has to be put into context. If I felt somebody had been rude to me (as the OP obviously felt), then I would probably respond with something similar. It doesn't seem disproportionate to me, let alone vile. But G&B have apologised, and have obviously done all they can on this thread to diffuse the situation... and have taken suggestions on board. So I don't think there's much more to add.
  20. Actually, maybe I was wrong... looking into it, perhaps design/appearance is valid ground for a planning objection. Certainly if you feel that strongly about it, it can't do any harm to raise your concerns with the council.
  21. A standard floor-filler by Michael Jackson or Stevie Wonder would do the trick. Or "Oh Shit" by The Buzzcocks.
  22. Narnia's idea of a deposit for a reusable bag sounds like a winner. Paragon asked "Why should they bother"? Because it would be good customer service, and enable people to buy wine without planning ahead. I completely reject the idea that not carrying a spare bag - just in case you decide to buy something - is either lazy of forgetful. I often don't carry a bag of any sort, as it's simply not necessary for my day-to-day activities. I'm not about to start carrying a bag, in which to carry a smaller bag, in case I decide to buy stuff.
  23. The new blocks are all of a similar design... so I guess, yes. By all means voice your opinions about the aesthetics, but I doubt they will be taken on board. The diagrams do show trees in front of the building. There is a bicycle store, but only a handful of parking spaces. I'm sure that refuse will be dealt with away from the pavement, as you say. If you want to send me your email address, I can forward you the email.
  24. I think the main problem is not that they don't they don't have bags, but the accusation of laziness. And I'm not saying that they shouldn't sell anything from far away - of course not. I was just demonstrating that nobody is perfect, everybody makes compromises.
  25. I'm all for cutting down on plastic bags, but calling your customers lazy seems judgemental and unjustified. Most people don't carry bags at all times - selling strong paper bags or carry-boxes for 15p or so would seem like a sensible compromise. I'm not sure that any company who imports products from the southern hemisphere are in a position to criticise people's green credentials.
