  1. In my next life, I want to be a charming therapist. Sounds like easy money to me.
  2. In response to KidKruger's concerns - if you're afraid of retribution, don't confront them directly, but try to get the registration number.
  3. I dunno, there were at least 3 or 4 people wading in with the "sceptical message" on the supernatural thread (myself included), but I think I'll stay clear of that one for a bit.
  4. I would guess it's related to Thaipusam - a Hindu festival, where it's traditional to smash coconuts in some cultures. Could be wrong though.

There's nothing to suggest that they are riding stolen vehicles. They are speeding and riding irresponsibly, but I don't think that's a genuine emergency. I would be surprised if the police responded to a 999 call. The number for non-emergencies is 0300 1231212.
  6. Are trains not running through ED today? Why is the info on the Southern site so useless? There is an info on the London Victoria and Clapham Junction, but nothing regarding London Bridge. Thanks
  7. Pointless conversation, done to death. The usual suspects won't budge an inch!
  8. James - thanks for the info, but surely the alleged epidemic is not within the East Dulwich ward?
  9. HAL - I'll take it to PM, as nobody else is interested!!
  10. Yep. And it's an argument nobody can win. Some people enjoy cooking, and spending their Saturdays going round the butchers and greengrocers. Other people just want minimum fuss. Most people (I think) appreciate the option of both. I just don't like it when somebody in one camp tells others that they are categorically wrong!
  11. We've been through this all before. Butchers offer better quality/value for a lot of things (maybe even most). But if I was seriously short of cash, I'd head straight to Asda for cheap mince, big packs of bargain drumsticks, etc. Not sure what any of this has to do with the hypothetical "status symbol" supermarket though.

That's just about the worst reason put forward on this whole thread. And I expect more people are thinking it than care to let on.

I have no doubt that my explanation contains some inaccuracies, but I think the basic thrust is correct. Many-worlds avoids wave function collapse by having all other states branch off into other worlds. > Science has observed the re-integration of > superpositions through decoherence. What's your source? I'm at the very limits of my knowledge here, but according to wikipedia, decoherence is basically "a loss of information from the system into the environment" and is irreversible. You are suggesting the opposite! > When dealing with infinite possibilities, it > should not be considered anomalous for the more > likely outcomes to be quite common relative to our > perception of the rate at which time passes ? in > my view. In my view the probability of the disappearance and re-appearance of an entire large object can be treated as zero, in any QM discussion. I agree with Huguenot, in that this would be a gross distortion of the theory.
  14. How are burglars getting in? Front door/Back door/windows/etc? Were there any lights on? Did you have an alarm installed? More info could help people understand what aspects of their home security need beefing up.
  15. SeanMacGabhann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I do A lot of people are lazy or don't like cooking, but don't want takeaways every night. Stuff like this fills the gap. There's a genuine market for it... Sainsbury's fills it fairly well IMO, but obviously people don't want to walk 5 minutes out of their way.
  16. People like convenience food. They like lasagnes they can put in the microwave. They like pizzas with goats cheese and chorizo toppings. Bags of salad, ready-made croutons, and little bottles of dressing. Puff pastry steak & ale pies, with ready-made mash and little packs of neatly trimmed green beans. Hassle-free hollandaise. Creme Brulees in individual ramekins. "Covent Garden" soups, "Pizza Express" dough balls, "Gu" chocolate puddings. And they want all the above, plus a ?5 bottle of red and some crusty bread, in one convenient shop, at 7:15pm, somewhere between the station and their home. There would be queues around the block. You don't need to understand why.
  17. Absolutely nothing wrong with eating horse. I'm sure I remember a news story about a restaurant in China selling "tiger meat" at sky-high prices. They were discovered to have been selling donkey meat laced with tiger urine. Yum yum.
  18. Free arcade games = awesome mum
  19. HAL - my understanding of the many-worlds interpretation, is that a particle has many simultaneous states until it is observed... at which point, a single one of those states gets bound to our reality, and the other states fork off to parallel "worlds". I've not read anything about parallel worlds re-integrating with each other - that's in the realm of science fiction. Even if such things were possible, the probabilities are so infinitesimally small, practically any other explanation is preferable. [ Again... not trying to belittle or mock anyone else's opinion, just stating what I do/don't believe ]
  20. Nomis&Nerual - what are you interested in finding out about? The best pubs/bars? Retaurants? Sports? Community/social groups? Good shops?
  21. It wasn't my intention to mock... more to demonstrate how difficult it is to swallow, for other people equally as educated as yourself and your daughter. I'm not telling you that you shouldn't believe it - merely stating the reasons why I do not!
  22. What's a more likely explanation for the disappearance/reappearance of a bicycle? Magic mushrooms? Cheeeky flatmates/neighbours? Or the many-worlds theory?
  23. Hmmm, the bending key thing is certainly wierd! As for losing something, then finding it in an obvious place a few days later... if I had a pound for every time that happened to me, I'd be loaded. (at least ?10, maybe even ?15)
  24. Ridgley - fair enough. (I still think the cake is expensive though)
