  1. On second listen, I don't think there's any racism there at all. But I think his monologue is rather one sided, inflammatory, and unconstructive - and I say this as an ardent atheist myself.
  2. In theory I agree with you Narnia. But in practise, if everybody else is milking the situation for every last dollar, your individual altruistic stand won't really make any difference.
  3. I do have sympathy for the OP's daughter, having made a similar mistake myself a few years ago. But it's really not a good idea to walk around talking on your phone - especially if it's worth several hundred pounds, and you're on your own at night.
  4. How can you get to HOP from ED without driving? Is there a bus route? I think that increased pressure on parking is an inevitable result of improved transport connections, unfortunately you can't have it both ways. Saying that, I think the train from ED to London Bridge, followed by either a bus up Bishopsgate (or tube to Old St) is probably easier for residents at the other side of ED.

    Exorcism

The Exorcist was good. One of the guys at work reckons it's crap. I told him he was wrong.

  7. Saturn, you are certainly not the only one who's uncomfortable with the idea of our prime minister making trips to volatile regions to sell arms.
  8. Subtitles. Right. I just saw a couple of minutes... enough to see that he is taking a few horrendous things which have been said and done in the name of a religion, and then using them as ammunition against hundreds of millions of people. I don't know exactly what he thinks we could acheive by making pariahs out of islamic countries. That's hardly going to help the women and children that he claims to be so concerned about.
  9. I'm with Huguenot and Mockney on this one. The need for cuts is clear, but it does seem to be a convenient fit for the Tory ideology. Let's say that the Tories get re-elected, and they get the defecit down to their target level... will they start increasing public spending again? Or will they cut taxes instead?
  10. It's probably a 25 min walk from where I live, you can't get there on public transport, and there aren't many other places of interest in the vicinity. So I'd never just pop in on the off-chance. I might give it a go if there were some bands playing that really appealed, or a strong comedy lineup.
  11. Money up front for materials is pretty common.

  14. I think the food at Pizza Express is actually OK, but they seem to have raised their prices by a couple of quid, while running perpetual "special offers". It would have been nice to see something a bit more ambitious on the site, but given the inevitable sky-high rent, it's hard to imagine it being anything other than investment-minded and safe.
  15. Also, ED really isn't that convenient for getting to the Olympic site. Maybe HOP and Forest Hill are easier because of the new Overground, but ED is not ideally located. And it's probably a less desirable area than Greenwich, Blackheath, etc.
  16. Hasn't this already been done to death? It's impossible to post an opinion either way, without sounding like a school debating society. Snorky needs some new material.
  17. Even today, I can still see the point of a 4 track. They don't go wrong, they don't take 5 minutes to start up, they're cheap, simple to use...
  18. In answer to MM and Mike P, why do we need a head of state, or token figurehead at all? What's the point?
  19. I think the streets are mainly unrestricted, but don't expect it to be easy to park near the station.

    Rasta Mouse

Also, what is that guitar Rastamouse is playing? Looks like a cross between an Explorer and a Flying V. I don't remember Peter Tosh playing one of those.
  24. dullified - to address the stereotypes you mentioned... > They take themselves rather too seriously (no irreverent or self deprecating sense of humour). True. But Northerners aren't funny either - they just think they are. > ?ooh could never get wasted on a school night!?. Northerners don't usually have jobs, so it's not really a fair comparison > Are outrageously materialistic (in particular property obsessed). I can't argue on that one. Although in the North, houses are basically free, so it's never become an issue. > have rather pedantic natures and depressingly provincial Only in the provinces. Londoners cannot - by definition - be provincial (pedantic enough for you?) Happy to help.
