  1. If you need any more evidence to support the existence of the spaghetti monster... Look at all the piracy in Somalia these days. And consider the current cold weather. Coincidence? I don't think so! PeckhamRose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As I said, blame the Advertising Standards > Authority for the inclusion of the word > "probably"! > But for those of you who feel you have to have > something to believe in - The Church Of the Flying > Spaghetti Monster
  2. Sorry, I was totally wrong... Crosstown Traffic wasn't a cover. Don't know what I was thinking. And yes, it's a belter!
  3. Yes... "almost certainly" would have been more consistent with a rationalist viewpoint!
  4. okcomputa - Yes, I agree it will be a long time before anyone in their right mind starts speculating in property again, trying to make an easy profit from price rises. But at this rate, the time will come when rental yields will make buy-to-let worthwhile again. If/when that happens, investors *will* start buying.
  5. You can't agree to disagree? So does that mean you dis-disagree - therefore you agree? Excellent!
  6. For underrated, I vote for Madness. Often dismissed as chirpy throwaway pop... but some seriously good songs, great arrangements and even some very relevant lyrics in there. They carved out a distinctive and accessible sound which separated them from their 2-Tone peers, but paid homage to their roots. And still pretty influential 30 years after their debut release, I would say.
  7. *Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Atheist - No God > Agnostic - Don't know. No no... an Atheist *believes* there is no God, a religious person *believes* there is a god/gods/whatever. Neither has definiteive, undisputable evidence, so therefore it remains a belief. It's nothing to do with altheism or "soft atheism", or even agnosticism. It's about being objective. Throw belief and opinion out of the window. Approach the question from an open minded, scientific perspective - consider the facts - and arrive at a conclusion. The problem is that because Christians claim that God operates outside of the phyiscal universe (and is therefore exempt from laws of science), they have a theory which is impossible to disprove. Again, from an objective and scientific perspective, the best you can say is that their theory is very unlikely. But I get the feeling that you and I are coming from a slightly different angle, *Bob*... we have to just agree to disagree on this one...
  8. I think you are getting slightly confused over the semantics, *Bob*. Saying that you definitely believe there is no god, is not the same thing as saying that there definitely is no god. They are very different things. The slogan on the side of the bus is not really an opinion or belief.

  10. Pascal's wager has zero merit... surely if there was a god, he/she/it would know that Pascal's position was a cop-out! *Bob*, I think the inclusion of "probably" is sensible. We cannot know with 100% authority whether there is a god or not. What we can do is look at the world around us, consider the evidence, and conclude that the existence of a god is very, very unlikely indeed. I am broadly with Marmora Man on this one (although I don't think it's such an issue in this country). There are lots of examples round the world where religion is having a very negative influence on politics, education, health, and more. I think this campaign is a little weak, but the message is sound.
  11. Here's hoping that she has somewhere to go - hopefully some friends or family.

  13. sidll, do you know this lady personally? Was she really being harrassed during the night?? edited to say - thanks TheePope, I'll take that as an apology of sorts. Consider my name-calling retracted.
  14. I would also suggest that the work of *Bob* is overated. Seriously, what has he written of any note since the "Mmmm Danone" thing?
  15. What the hell are you talking about popey? When did I say that I value "speculating on making a load of dosh" over my home? I was just saying that it's not a big deal, nothing to get too pissed off about. I don't see how it's any worse than getting calls from call centres trying to sell you stuff, or people knocking on your door pestering you... it happens. The old dear doesn't have to sell if she doesn't want to, nobody can force her. Personally I couldn't give a stuff what she - or anybody else - does with their property. Don't read between the lines and judge me. Prat.
  16. It's just personal opinion, CitizenEd... nobody is claiming their views are definitive. I think a lot of people find Coldplay bland, dull, and mediocre. And possibly whiney, pretentious and overblown. Not enough talent and too much exposure. Or something like that.
  17. Doesn't sound so silly. And spray-painting is kind of fun too.

SimonM Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I imagine she is pissed off because she gets asked > the question so much and certain people refuse to > take it for an answer? If the biggest problem I had was people offering to buy my house every now and then, I reckon I'd be doing pretty well.
  19. I don't see why she's so pissed off, how difficult is it to say "no"?
  20. Haven't various landlords been trying to buy it from her for years?!
  21. I haven't listened to Nevermind in years, but I still get a rush when I hear any of the tracks in the radio (OK, but maybe not Teen Spirit any more). But it's struck a chord with a whole new generation. There are 14 year olds with Nirvana shirts, and Nevermind on their ipods. The production and mix are perfect to my ears... yeah, the band thought it was too polished, but to me, Bleach sounded like it was done on 4-track.
  22. giggirl Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And this from a man who does Bon Jovi covers. Keef, you have to admit, she has you over a barrel there!! For me, Kurt Cobain has one of the all time great rock voices. And Nevermind will surely remain a classic in 30 years time, ensuring they are revered in a similar way to Hendrix, The Ramones, and others. OK this is partly down to the image/attitude/legacy - and admittedly they are very simplistic - but they have some belting songs and an undeniable appeal. Foo Fighters... well... I reckon they've had some good singles. "This Is A Call" and "Everlong" spring to mind. But their albums are usually unlistenably dull, just full of plodding filler. After 15 years, they probably have just enough material for a decent "best of" album.
  23. Hey panda, think you're being ever-so-slightly unfair. I think Miles has clarified his position, in that he just means someone who takes a bit of pride in their appearance, and are not scruffy. That's his criteria, fair enough...

  25. Yeah, that Zoopla looks like an interesting site, but I wouldn't take it seriously. Keeping an eye on estate agents' asking prices is useful, but I'm sure sellers are having to take big reductions on the asking price at the moment... sites like www.houseprices.co.uk are always useful.
