  1. According to www.allmusic.com... "U Blow My Mind" was written by Chauncey Hannibal/Dave Hollister/Teddy Riley. It is not a cover, The Blackstreet version is the original. "Blow My Mind" was by Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin was their singer), but this was written by Jimmy McCrackin.

Maybe I should have said that I particularly like that bit. Anyway, let's hear your effort Ted Max - I thought you were supposed to be the literary figurehead in these parts!
  3. Let's just agree that some squatters are decent, respectful people who are simply taking advantage of unused housing. While others cause damage, nuisance and wreck livelihoods. As someone pointed out, you can't tar them all with the same brush.

  5. Thai corner - hit and miss. Thought it was a real gem when I first tried it, but after the last meal, I wouldn't bother again any time soon.

Uni days... left in 1998. I assume the students still have Aldi and Lidl, so all is not lost. And Bargain Booze, of course.

  8. In theory I wouldn't have a real problem with people occupying an empty building, if they look after the place and move out when it becomes apparent that the owner needs it back. But I have a problem when they trash the property and/or refuse to leave. And I also have a pretty big problem with freeloaders who choose not to work for a living, and I suspect that many (but maybe not all) squatters fall into this category.
  9. 13 years ago... Kwik Save, Smithdown Road, Liverpool... can of 6 hot dogs - 19p, 6 bread rolls - 25p. Breakfast, lunch and dinner sorted.
  10. For some reason, the mood of the poem reminds me of Jam lyrics... particularly "down in the tube station at midnight". Don't know if you'll take that as a compliment or an insult.
  11. Good for you quids for intiating the debate... But I'm not sure that breaking into someone else's property, vandalising it, stealing electricity, making innocent people's lives a misery, while not contributing to society in any way - can be justified by calling in a counterculture.
  12. Glad to see that so far nobody has posted in support of these scumbags. But give it time.
  13. Horsebox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So we're arrived at the evil supermarkets vs the > noble, local shopkeeper topic. Again. It's such a load of nonsense, isn't it? If all the local food shops were open when I get home from work at 8:30 on a Wednesday night, then LuvPeckham might have a valid point. But they're not. So he doesn't.
  14. Well there are quite a few of us city workers in ED... you get to recognise the faces waiting at the station, who then make the trudge over London Bridge every morning. But we're in a full-on recession, it's not just impacting the finance sector. Not sure about change in demographics... we'll see.

    Oh my (2)

I saw it. I think it's a black (am I allowed to say that?) fella, although I don't know who it is, cos I don't follow rugby.
  16. So why didn't you date the guy with the Aston Martin? Hell, even I would have been tempted.
  17. Perhaps I'm old fashioned in believeing that hospitals should be public services, rather than profit-making private companies? MM, you talk about bureaucracy, but the kind of system you describe would surely be vastly more paperwork-heavy. Have you ever needed medical attention in America? I used to think the privatisation was a good thing, and that competition would inevitably lead to better value and service, but there are just too many counter-examples for me th believe that any more.
  18. Yes I realise that pk... doesn't change the fact that "black", "asian", "white", etc are all perfectly valid and inoffensive ways of describing someone. So the OP didn't include any other description... lack of detail is not a crime. By all means continue to preach over-the-top PCness if it makes you feel better about yourself. I should have known better than to get involved...
  19. I agree, it is not especially useful without any further description (height, approx age) to go on. But if she had just said "a tall man", or "a blond haired man", people wouldn't be jumping on that.
  20. Apparently you're not allowed to mention race these days when describing someone. In fact, I'm surprised the OP got away with saying that it was a man.
  21. Why the pity, giggirl? Quids and Bob have demonstrated that they have the best of both worlds.
  22. Well... just 2 proper episodes, a "making of" documentary, and an "unplugged" show with the four actors recreating classic scenes (without costumes, props or sets).
  23. Red Dwarf had lost its way by series 7... what I saw of 8 was awful... but I will still definitely watch this. It would feel wrong not to.

  25. Are we talking about our favourite car that we've owned? Or any car at all?
