  1. Five weeks! What are they planning on doing here? Building and under and over pass? I guess I should be happy that something is going to be done about this, but on the other hand, I can just imagine the nightmare this junction, and Barry road is going to be with the remedial work taking this long, and the building work that is being undertaken at the old timber yard, with various concrete trucks and lorry deliveries. Oh, good grief. Thanks to James though, for finally getting some council action on this junction.
  2. That is a relief then! I did not get a chance to get a proper look yesterday morning, as I was running late for my train due to my diverted bus, and I naturally assumed the worst with the road works. Sorry for causing concern! Perhaps we should open a book as to how long it will be before they do start digging it up again though?
  3. Well, that didnt last long. There were workmen digging up the newly resurfaced road under the Peckham Rye rail bridge this morning.
  4. It has been more than 6 months - see my earlier thread here This has been a massive disruption, not only to commuters, but also to the businesses on Rye Lane itself. It is a complete and utter joke that they will complete a stretch of work one day, then dig it up again the next. I completly agree with what Pearson has said earlier "All this kind of work can be done very quickly, as some are keen to defend for some reason? "
  5. If Thames water are stating that the works will be until the 18th of May, then I am expecting disruption until at least this time, and if their record is anything to go by, probably a month or two after this for good measure. I noticed this morning that they have started digging up the road that they finished in December as well. This is a complete joke, and the disruption is more than a minor inconvenience. A section of road can be resurfaced overnight, but how often does this happen, and when will the roadway be in a state for this to take place?
  6. I agree, this is ridiculous, but just to convey more bad news to add to the misery, the update on the Thames water signs says that they works are scheduled to conclude on 18th of May 2011. To be even more positive (tongue firmly in cheek), if they are anything like the work done last year, they will probably overrun by a month or so for good measure. Then the resurfacing to come on top of that. Complete and utter joke.
  7. I know it is almost too much to expect planned engineering works to finish when the authorities say they will, but does anyone know if Blackfriars station has opened again? Planned opening date was 16th of Jan, and it is easier for me to go from here to Peckham than City Thameslink... Thanks
  8. neilson99, I completely agree with you. DJKQ is absolutley out of line, and perhaps a little drunk on the fumes of power that must exude from all the council meetings. To call the humble commuter (you, me, et al) who is frustrated by what seems to be yet more excuses, delays and diversions from this work, a "cynical idiot" is a little rich. Perhaps I should make time to attend these council meetings, but unfortunately in the real world, I have to hold down a job, pay my mortgage and try to carry on as best I can, so any spare time to me is very precious... hence, to my detriment, I do take the information I am given at face value. This photo was taken yesterday - already a week over due, and they are still digging deeper.
  9. As I walked from the bus stop that the number 12 and 197 have been diverted to, up onto Rye Lane and to Peckham Rye train station this morning, I noticed that the workers seem to be digging up the same piece of road that they had worked on and sealed up a week or so ago... Did they forget something? Are they on track to finish this work by the end of November as previously stated, or perhaps they are ahead of schedule and need to drag the work out until then? When will these disruptions end, and what is next?
  10. The Police were there in the afternoon, when there would have been a lot of traffic on the road - a natural calming measure. Later on in the evening and during the night, early morning, when most of the crashes I have seen occur, the road is clear, meaning some drivers will speed up and race down the road. I know how what a speeding car looks like and I see it all the time on this road. Speed in this case is only a contributing factor - there are other reasons as to why this junction is unsafe. To focus primarlity on speed is a mistake.
  11. Ok - I must be imagining all of the crashes that I see from my window then? I must also be wildly wrong in my estimations of speed that cars travel up and down the road that I see "speeding" on a daily basis. Lets all bury our heads in the sand then about this junction - and hope that this problem goes away shall we? On a side note and slightly cynical; It is also ironic that when you are pulled over by the police they do not take the same attitude "The Police have stated that many people think vehicels are actually travelling much faster than they actually are."
  12. James, who is not reporting these crashes? Like I said in an earlier post by far and away the majority of the crashes I see here have some sort of police involvement. I even made a point to ask the officer who attended this crash if this would be considered a "reported" accident, which he said it would be.... So, what more can we do everytime crashes happen here in order to "report" them - especially when the police are in attendance. There is something very wrong going on with this intersection, and the accident stats for this junction. It is just a matter of time before someone is killed here, and then it will be too late. This is much like the farce of the gas works at the junction of Peckham Rye and East Dulwich road earlier this year, when after months of stalling getting the works fixed / completed it took the death of a young girl to finally get action here. Very poor indeed. Dont let this happen again at this junction. I dont want to have to be the one to say "I told you so".
  13. Quite a bad one this time. No one hurt, thank god! Luckily this happened on a Saturday morning, rather than a weekday or else this could have been much worse. This crash finished off the railings that were only half damaged from the crash two weeks ago. Oh, and the traffic lights too... I wonder if the council will take notice this time??
  14. James, The police are in attendance for the majority of the accidents that happen at this junction. Surely this must "register" as an accident on some council database somewhere? If not, then where do I register the accidents when they happen, or because no one was hurt does that mean that they dont matter? Thanks
  15. Hi James Barber - are you saying that the report says that there has only been 5 collisons at the Barry Road - Underhill road in the past 3 years? If this is the case, then this is very wrong. I would say there has been at least 5 collisons there this year alone - probably more. I hear and see them all the time from my house. Earlier this year the crashes there were coming thick and fast - approximately one a week for the space of about a month... Cheers
  16. First Point - Excessive Speed on Barry Road: I have to agree with cazzyr - people drive exceptionally fast up and down Barry Road. Just give them an clear road opportunity and away they go... Sometimes they dont even need a clear road - travelling in excess speed on the wrong side of the road, overtaking the number 12 bus and a few cars is not uncommon at all. Second Point - Barry Road, Underhill Road Junction: There was also a crash at this junction on Sunday, which was the first one I had seen in a while - but I have been on holiday... luckily a local Bobbie was in the vacinity, as it looked like things were going to get heated between the drivers of the two cars. Tonights crash has written off the railings by the crossings that is for sure! How do I know? My house overlooks this junction.
  17. Just to echo BQC - can anyone please recommend an insurer or good broker who will cover these properties? Our property has had historical subsidence - but this was remidied in 2000 with underpinning, and has been given a 12 year guarantee, however - no insurers I have tried will touch the place - and the existing premiums are extremely high. Can anyone recommend a better deal or company? Thanks!
  18. Just glanced out the window to the west, and there is a big plume of smoke coming from somewhere out there. Anyone know what the cause of all the smoke is?
  19. You should tell your kids that he only plays the music when he has actually run out of ice cream... That should fix it.
  20. I agree, the speed in which some cars travel up and down the road is crazy. I was nearly hit yesterday when I crossed the road, and a young guy in a silver BMW got impatient with the traffic queue forming behind a number 12 bus that had stopped to let off passengers. He floored it, pulled out into the oncoming lane, and over took about three cars and the bus and then nearly hit me on the wrong side of the road. A bit vigilante, but I wonder if standing out there with a camera for half an hour taking photos of the bad drivers and sending them to the traffic dept might get something done? (of course this would not detect the speeding cars)
  21. Yes, there are far too many foxes in ED now - very easy food sources keep them here, and completely overgrown gardens like my neighbours gives them a very comfortable place to live. They are a noisy, disease ridden nuisance. This has got nothing to do with pest control in the country. Yes, there needs to be a cull for sure. Sooner, rather than later in my opinion.
  22. Hi guys, Does anyone know what the daily charge and the capped rate for an Oyster card would be - for the following journey - Morning Peak (before 9.30am): One bus to Peckham Rye Overland from Peckham Rye to London Blackfriars Afternoon Peak (after 5.30pm but before 7.00pm) Overland from London Blackfriars to Peckham Rye One bus from Peckham Rye I am considering riding to work from ED to save some cash, and I wanted to know what the daily costs would be as opposed to a weekly zone 1 - 2 travel card (which is currently ?25.80) The TFL pricing structure has got me rather confused! Thanks in advance
  23. I happen to like the plane noise, and I like watching them line up over ED for Heathrow. I use air travel regularly, and to see and hear them in the air is no problem for me. Personally, I was glad when they started flying again after the ash debacle. I especially liked computedshorty's comments above.
  24. Has anyone got any ideas on what to do about our next door neighbour's back garden, as it has not been maintained in the two years that I have lived at my property, and it is literally an overgrown jungle there now. The garden needs a lot of work to bring it under control, but not only is it an eyesore, but it is now a home for feral vermin (foxes etc). I think the property is unoccupied or I would have tried talking them, but there must be a way that the council can do something to ask the owners to clean it up? Thanks in advance
