Love Dulwich rebranding as Turkish Restaurant
Pugwash replied to Angell34's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Went there a couple of weeks ago and had their set lunch menu - very good value and generous portions. Sea bream was delicious . -
Some years ago, one of our dogs ate something dropped by rubbish bins outside a local café and haemorrhaged. Rushed to emergency vet in Streatham, who suggested that someone, worried about rats getting into rubbish bins may have put down poison. Our dog died the next day. Consequently, any dog we had afterwards wore a muzzle to stop them picking up food.

New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition
Pugwash replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
A couple of years ago or so, St. Christopher's lease ran out. they were put in a position to (a) find an alternative premise in a good position or (b) accept the new lease at greatly inflated price. I believe that price quoted was £50.000 pa. ED is one of the more profitable shops due mainly to the demographic make up of the area. There is a paid manager (might even be 2). Rest are volunteers who cover the 7 days that the shop is open. I am informed that the St. Christopher's shop in Lewisham High Street is much cheaper as is Penge. The majority of the Hospice's funding comes from these charity shops/fund raising events etc. Even more so now that the government has put additional NI contributions onto all health providers. A relative of ours works in a hospice shop in Dartford having recently been appointed manager. When she first started she noticed that volunteers were regularly been asked by customers to reduce costs of items. One had asked that a £3. item be reduced to 50p ! There are 'dealers' that go around charity shops trying to get items at a reduced rate and then selling them at inflated prices at car boot sales. -
Recommendation needed for a reliable person to realign 2 sections of guttering with down pipes. Guttering is in good condition so do not need new. Guttering is on roof at rear of house. Have noticed that heavy traffic vibrations seem to shake the house resulting in some movement in down pipes.

I am in the process of looking for an ink tank printer - following up several recommendations by WHICH. As I am not very tech savvy- will need to pay someone to install it (when purchased) at my home. (Desk top computer). Any recommendations please.

Depending on what type of food - hot/cold, buffet/sit down I would suggest at least £20 plus a head probably more. You could probably get a better idea by googling a few caterers.

If you are in their catchment area, try The Gardens who are very well thought of in the area

A Canadian friend reports that many USA citizens are travelling to Canada to get their medical prescriptions as medication in Canada is vastly cheaper than USA. Perhaps if the Canadian government puts a surcharge/tariff on these type of transactions, the ordinary folk may realise that their vote for Trump is costing them money.

Went to Poundland yesterday, purchased several items, Special offer of toothpaste £1 for 100ml. Assistant very friendly and helpful - an elderly lady with a trolley and on crutches was told to take her time putting shopping away as the assistant opened up another till for customers in the queue. I was also asked if I needed any help (I have a walking stick). There was around 12/15 people shopping whilst I was there. I could have purchased more items but was conscious that with the bus stops by the Library closed, I would not be able to carry more weight.

St Anthony's and certificate of catholic practice
Pugwash replied to gmaju's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Our youngest daughter went to St Anthony's many years ago. My husband is catholic, and was a regular attendee at St, Thomas More, so she met the criteria. I cannot think that a child of nursery age would be expected to attend mass on a weekly basis. -

The long empty site at the top of Lordship Lane by the Library is now a cute little bar and restaurant - Victus and Bibo. We had a few beers there on Saturday night and it was very welcoming. Not noticed this when passed today - so used to it being closed. When the original restaurant (Moulin) closed down, the new owners said they were going to have a new restaurant after modernising the premises. This was around 10 years ago!. -

Fines for parking in loading bay for 2 minutes - appeal?
Pugwash replied to Naiada's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would appeal. When working I had a Southwark wide parking permit as my job as a Southwark employee took me all over the borough. Myself and colleague were parked outside our office as usual and got a PCN. We appealed and won and it turned out that the parking warden misread the initials on our permits AS (all Southwark) and took it to be that we were incorrectly parked in a Residents Bay. -
It is a catch 22 situation. My neighbours have been trying to sell their 4 bed semi house for more than a year - 2 lots of buyers have dropped out. As only 2 of them living in the house, they want to downsize in the ED area but need ground floor flat with 2 beds plus parking as wife is disabled, has a blue badge and mobility scooter. They tell me that there is a shortage of such properties in the area at a price they could afford. Sometimes you have to take the risk that you will not be ripped off by the council with future works planned.

Household items (not electrical) CDs/ records/books in addition to items mentioned on poster.

Avoid council leasehold properties - especially if it is in a block. If council decide to do maintenance/refurbishments of the block you will be charged for the work whilst tenants will be free. Could end up owing thousands of pounds, Equally if a shared house. Our old neighbour purchased his top floor flat from council, Spend thousands on it rectifying years of neglect by LBS. A couple of years later, LBS decided to paint exterior and charged him £5000 whilst the ground floor tenant did not have to contribute. Within 6 months the paint flaked. He tried unsuccessfully to get some money back. In the end he sold up, and gained a small profit for the internal refurbishment and the addition of an exterior staircase into the shared garden.
