  1. Have been to Blue Brick several times over the years and I have never found them open in the evening. Looked at Suzanne in the past and she is quite expensive, but if planning a wedding or similar - she is reasonable compared with other caterers. Where is Trinco? I doubt that the children would like Vietnamese food although they do like curry and things like chilli con carne, We only have a family meal once or twice a year - this year it is to celebrate a 40th , 53rd, and 27th birthday- we are both pensioners so we need to keep an eye on prices. I have in the past cooked for 12 people but it is a tight squash getting everybody in especially as the grandchildren have got older.
  2. We went to Love Dulwich a couple of times last summer and found food good. We have a family meal anticipated on a Friday evening in February - adult who needs gluten free food, plus a couple of vegetarians. and 2 children under 12 one who cannot eat dairy produce. Any suggestions for a restaurant? we have done Maria's in the past. Ideally in ED on a bus route and where we can reserve tables. Possibly will be 9/10 of us. Also 2 of us use walking aids so limited steps plus a disabled toilet. Would also consider Peckham.
  3. Good luck with this - there have been several requests over the years by students needing to do infant observations. I was lucky when I did mine - way back in 1994 at a local nursery. Have you tried contacting the NCT to see if there are any local groups who would be willing to participate? As a mother of 2 - found the observation very informative - mine was a 2 year old child as my course stated a child under 3. Got my highest grade for this project so was very happy.
  4. Do you mean to complete the form? Or do you have a LPA which now needs to be activated? William Bailey Solicitors in ED Road.
  5. There is an ED shop which I avoid going to as much as possible as they rarely have price labels on their goods - there are other places as well in the area.
  6. Our neighbours have a leasehold flat (Freeholder LBS) they got permission to install a 2nd bedroom in the attic space. The downstairs flat has LBS tenants.

If you are over 55 - Southwark Pensioners Group at Camberwell
  8. If I need a PO I will go to Forest Hill (the old WH Smith). Shorter queue but only 2 windows. Due to poor mobility I cannot stand for more than 5-10 mins, so LL is out for me. I remember the times, many years ago, when there were chairs in the post office! Showing my age!
  9. Some time ago, we used a licensed waste disposal person to take odd bits of broken furniture. We got him from the forum and used him a couple of times. Unfortunately we have mislaid his business card. Can anyone supply his name and details? Also some months ago a new licensed waste disposal person advertised on the Forum - cannot remember his details.
  10. For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob! She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10 - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings. One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
  11. I had to renew my licence - took photocopy of my current licence and also my renewal application and posted everything off. Within 10 days received my new licence. My old licence was due to run out in January so I submitted the renewal early December.
  12. I cannot remember who ran/organised the original ED LETS. They had meetings at the ED Community Centre every so often. I think there were about 20 - 25 people involved.
  13. We had a problem last year with a roofing company. They had previously fixed the roofing on our exterior boiler house and we had no complaints. They came back several months later and my husband foolishly let them in. They deliberately knocked down some guttering (I discovered this some time later) and damaged some roofing slates. We ended up going to Trading Standards who are investigating the company - they were registered at Company House but operated from various addresses which were used for mailing purposes only.
  14. Posted around 12 cards 2 weeks prior to 24th December. Had some responses so know people have received them. Had about 20 cards - mixture of hand delivered and via post. After years of 'nagging' by myself and our daughters, we may have cured hubby of spending £4 plus on individual cards for our immediate family ( when you have 12 immediate family it costs a bomb) Also as the girls state, they get put in the recycling bad at beginning of January regardless of cost.
  15. There was a LETS scheme in ED and it ran for a couple of years or so. Trying to remember when it was pre 2000? A couple of friends joined it, one did baby sitting for exchange for ironing, the other did small painting jobs or simple gardening. There was a set criteria regarding credits,
  16. I purchased some unusual cheeses in Aldi a couple of weeks ago for a Christmas Social with 20 odd people. Also supplemented it with various cheeses from Sainsburys',
  17. Dawsons heights is not run by Southwark Council- it comes under a management company,
  18. Try Niko -- loads of recommendations here. Very good guy, reasonable charges, have used him several times.
  19. As previously said regarding discrimination during the 1960s - husband went to a south London private school (not Dulwich College). He may have faired better at Dulwich College!
  20. The building is having major repairs to it, the tenants there have had problems for a considerable time.

  22. I hear that Landells Road has had a spate of parcels being taken,
  23. In the 1960s my husband went to a private day school, Although he was a bright child having won a couple of scholarships to other private schools, his father chose this particular one. He went from 11 - 14 years and left as unhappy with the set up which was based on ethnicity. All boys with both parents English were placed in the A stream regardless of academic ability, Boys with an Irish background were placed in B stream. All others were C streamed - this included boys with a Black or Asian background, mixed race or mixed European background. His schooldays came to an end when he wished to learn Latin and he was told that no boy in C stream could participate in this subject. His father (not English) was very upset at this and withdrew him from the school and sent him to a country boarding school. The experiences he had with his schooling culminated in a breakdown of his mental health and several months in Maudsley. He had low self esteem and it took several decades for him to understand that it was the school system and not his ability which had failed him
  24. All depends on what you call reasonably priced! Was it for Christmas Day? Noticed that The Plough were advertising Christmas Lunches but did not see any prices listed.
  25. We purchased our 4 bed semi in ED in 1975 it had been reduced by £500 for quick sale and was £16,500!, Original owner lived on first floor but let out rooms downstairs. We had to do considerable redecoration and some alterations to adapt it to 3 elderly relatives with mobility issues, plus myself, partner and toddler. I was joint owner with my elderly aunt and after her death, we had to get a small mortgage to pay out some of her bequests. My neighbour's house was on the market for £1.4 million but his place was far better condition than mine. I agree that many folk are asset rich but cash poor .
