Bowley Close at Crystal Palace has a NHS specialist Orthotic clinic - I have to wear specialist shoes and they take all the measurements to send off. for shoes to be made, You will need a GP referral My grand daughter is in her 2nd year degree in Podiatry and she usually does my feet, As she does not live locally, there are times when I need to go to the Woodwarde Road, Very expensive and prices change in accordance to whom you see, Last time I went they told me I had a verruca and needed treatment which I noticed on their price list, was over £100. Consulted my grand daughter, who examined my foot and advised that verruca was very small and looked as though it would go away itself. She checked my feet a couple of months later - no sign of a verruca.

One gentleman who kept the boards up to date with community notices i.e. local residents' association events, East Dulwich Community Centre, sadly died a few years ago. He never had the keys to the NX Rd board as this was outside his ward (now known as Dulwich Hill). The council changed the locks on the boards and we do not know who was given the keys. The gentleman's widow carries on with posting community notices but only on the odd couple of boards whose locks have been broken and she can lift the cover. If I remember correctly, it was the Lib. Dem councillors in ED that initiated the boards.

Experience in employing self employed person carer
Pugwash replied to tomster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is this to be a live in carer? if so you will need to establish hours of work, daily 'time off'. If full time live in carer you will need to employ another carer as relief. One of my clients had a live in carer plus 2 others rota was carer A main carer - had 3/4 hours off each day when carer B took over. Carer A had one week off in 4 when carer B moved in and did same hours as carer A, but carer C came daily to cover breaks, then it went back to normal routine. Need to have Moving and Handling training and certification. Also if needing to use hoist will need training and depending on hoist may need 2 people. -

Had to have similar done some years ago and went to Armstrong's in Forest Hill (opposite the station) -
Are you a home owner or renter? Are the upstairs neighbours owners or renters? If renting - may be a Housing Association tenant or council. The fact that you have support from ASBU can be in your favour especially if the upstairs tenant is council. Safer Neighbourhood Police Team often work closely with the ASBU and I have been to SNT meetings where an officer from ASBU also attended. We have been lucky as the vast majority of our neighbours have been very good. Only difficult one was a mum with 2 young children who had a habit of throwing shoes/toys/bricks over the back fence. We had an elderly partially sighted relative living with us at the time and the kids made her their target. We had several words with the mother to very limited success. When other neighbours raised concerns, we found that social services were involved as the children were on the risk register.

When I did a Diploma in Community Studies at Birkbeck College many many moons ago, community was defined a group with common/similar beliefs , people living within a defined geographical area,.

No it was expensive and various recommendations were received from other organisations and also social services who had used in past.

Husband came back with a load of household stuff from Pound Land yesterday - he calculated he saved around £7 on half a dozen items.

The only time I fill the petrol tank to its' capacity is if we go to visit family in West Sussex and stay in the nearby Premier Inn for a few days. There is no bus service between family home and the Inn - so around 8 miles round trip each day plus outings. I can afford to fill up completely, but choose to half fill in case car stolen/petrol syphoned.

Not just NX Rd there are other Community notice boards i.e Sainsbury's Local, Charter School/Tessa Jowell Centre. I check the Sainsbury's one when I think about it and remove any old/outdated notices. This is not locked - so anyone can post.

Hubby used to go to this centre for swimming for older people scheme, Got fed up with their chaotic booking system and now goes to Forest Hill Leisure Centre. Costs more but he can book in person and book several days swim. Better changing rooms, including a spin dryer for costumes and towels.

When the charity I was involved with had to go into voluntary liquidation during Covid as majority of our funding ceased, We did not have sufficient income to cover the £50.000 pa rent, we had to get rid of 30 years plus of confidential files. We went through a confidential shredding company who took away a hundred plus sacks for shredding. They supplied the sacks and when we could not store anymore, they came and collected.

If you live in the Dulwich Hill area - the SNT will be having their quarterly meeting at 5 pm at Christ Church Barry Road on Weds 11th June. email [email protected],uk

Glad that James is thinking of standing at the next election. Known him for years, he used to pop in to say hallo when he stood in this area (now Dulwich Hill) Children must be well in their teens now so perhaps he has a bit more time.

The next Dulwich Hill SNT meeting is on Weds.11th June 2025 5pm at Christ Church Batty Road. Open to all Dulwich Hill Ward residents and businesses. It is realised that 5 pm is not suitable for everyone, but even when held at 7 pm. some people complained that it was children's bath/bed times and wanted it earlier/later. When later times were proposed, there were still complaints- not able to get babysitters/did not want to go out/return home in the dark!. Times are always not going to be convenient for some people. These meetings are held quarterly and are very informal. They give everyone a chance to meet the local team and exchange views/concerns relating to crime/anti social behaviour etc.

Would Leon install a new double oven? Our eye level double oven was installed when we had our kitchen installed around 20 years ago and will need to be replaced with similar. I think we had 2 people to install it then - so does Leon work alone?

My car was registered in 2004. Automatic, ULEZ compatible. Used to use it daily for work until 2016 when retired. Still used 3-5 days weekly after that as was doing voluntary work. My mobility has gradually declined and it is painful to walk.. Family live in Kent, Essex and Sussex - so need car to visit them. My car battery is 2 years old - when had to call out RAC to assist at home as it was dead, they found it was the original battery installed in 2004!! My car is essential - shopping each week, being able to go to garden centres, or DIY stores, taking the cat to the vet and other social activities. I now only half fill with petrol every 3- 4 weeks, so save that way. I am careful with my finances and would be lost without the car. It is regularly maintained (Turners).

Poundland East Dulwich soon to be replaced by Tesco Express
Pugwash replied to satsuma's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I remember Tesco- it was on the corner of North Cross Road where Superdrug is now. Very small if I remember correctly. We shop in Pound land - having discovered that shampoo and conditioner (brand names) were only £1 each. Good selection of most things that we need on a regular basis. It is better than the one in Peckham. Never noticed loud music when I have been in there and have always found the staff helpful and cheerful. -
I have been involved with our local Residents' Association and also the East Dulwich Community Centre since the early 1980s. Both organisations initially had good attendance and representation from the local community but over the past few years so called 'community minded people' are more interested in social media/WhatsApp Groups and discussing things on line rather than meeting in person. The EDF is a very good source of local knowledge and I use it frequently for various reasons but it is no substitute for person to person engagement. I also help out at an over 55 age group which meets weekly for 2 hours and it is noticeable that the majority of attendees are those who frequently use social media sites, but have come to the conclusion that face to face contact is essential for their well being. There are organisations in ED which put on social events, most are family friendly. for free or low cost where neighbours/friends can meet up - you do not need additional green spaces for this to happen.

When we resurfaced our drive, we made sure that on either side of the hard standing there were earth beds with plants and shrubs to absorb rainwater.

Indoor market in East Dulwich - Would you be interested?
Pugwash replied to radnrach's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The market held annually at Christ Church Barry Road, was not held last year. Traders had stated that footfall ha fallen considerably, and was not profitable. Whilst a couple of stalls had goods at a reasonable price (socks) the others were very expensive. Not many people were willing to pay £25-£30 for a mug. If my memory serves me correctly - the craft market initially started off in the Village, but did not attract enough footfall and was not on a public transport route - hence the move to Christ Church. I used to go regularly to NXR market but the prices got so ridiculous on the majority of stalls ( a filled baguette which originally cost around £4 - went up to £9). having grown up in ED - I remember the original NXR market - with fruit and veg stalls, haberdashery, etc which were there 2/3 times a week. My idea of an indoor market is those seen in provincial towns - Preston, Derby, Chichester (which also has street market) -
2/3 tables put together in the front of the restaurant.

Warning - SCAM "gardener" operating in the Goose Green area
Pugwash replied to se22cat's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Notify your local SNT Police- rather than 101. -
i believe that Southwark are cutting down on dropped kerb applications due to concerns of flooding. So many people are converting their front gardens to car parking spaces and rainwater is running off into street. I may be wrong so you will need to check. My dropped kerb was already in place when we purchased the house in 1975.
