    Combi sewer

Who is responsible for maintaining a combination sewer? Myself and 2 neighbours share a sewer which runs from the first house across the garden of next door and myself, runs down to the street via my front garden and the manhole is in my garden. Was told years ago that it was Southwark 's not Thames Water's responsibility to maintain this. Currently the cement around the manhole is broken and the metal cover has also broken. Have had to put a sheet of wood over hole to prevent cats etc from falling down it. If it is Southwark - which department?
  3. Last time I heard- the police had taken away his pole and were awaiting some CCTV evidence. He is known to Dulwich Hill Neighbourhood team Suggest you email Dulwichhill.snt@met.police.uk
  4. I believe most of the GP practices have websites so may be wise to look at all of the catchment areas. When we joined The Gardens Upland and Barry Roads were in the catchment area- but now are not. Those wanting to join the practice in those roads are now not eligible.
  5. We have been members for years - get both the e news and magazine. Good information on what is happening in local area and events etc.
  6. Woolworths were there in 1960s and had been for many years. My family lived in Spurling Road and most Saturdays we would shop there. I think it may have opened up after the war.
  7. The Grove Tavern site is ideal for a Travel Lodge/Premier Inn - an ideal raised several years ago. I do not think social or an other housing would be suitable due to the traffic on 2 sides of the building. A small B & B as above could work. Noticed that there is a travel lodge above Ancaster Garage in Penge and also in Lewisham High Street. (or was it a Premier Inn?)

  10. I have always had good reactions when contacting surgery - have been going there for many years and cannot find fault with any of the reception staff or GPs. Had an appointment last week for a check up and met the 'new' nurse who was very pleasant and helpful. Liz, the 'old' nurse who had been with the surgery for years had retired- at one stage I had to see her twice a week due to a serious allergic reaction which resulted in ulcers. I did notice a 'new' receptionist in the admin office who I had seen before. Last few times visiting the surgery the door was open and no need to ring the bell.
  11. We have 2 multi point gas water heaters in our house, does Billy service these at all? As the house was originally in 2 flats, the central heating boiler was for heat alone .
  12. I would look up Age UK/Independent Age leaflets before talking to social worker. Some SWs are not fully conversant with PB and may not give you enough information. If you go for a PB and organise your own carers you effectively become an employer dealing with NI/Tax etc. However, there are organisations that will administer all the paperwork.
  13. Sheltered Housing Units no longer have 'wardens' who used to live in or come in daily, so incidences like this can happen. It is important that all the residents of this block are made aware of how easy it is to be taken in by these 'professional scammers'. Hopefully the incident was reported to the SNT -. It may be that the SHU has a dedicated Housing Officer - who should also be informed. This may also be a case for the Safeguarding Adults Team at Social Services. Has the SHU got Security Cameras? If so police could check back to see if they were recorded.
  14. This seems to be related to previous incidents, especially the continuous phone calls. Scammer seems to be targeting older people and those with disabilities/dementia. Both of my friends are in their 80s (one is partially sighted and lives alone). Both ladies are alert mentally and were able to deal with situation. However one lady feels that her home was being watched as the woman who knocked on her door asked whether her carer was due that day. A friend who had been visiting her the day before, said she was accosted by the same woman who stated she was being stalked by her ex husband and asked for a lift down Court Lane. It was not until my friend mentioned the comment re carer, that they realized it was the same woman. This needs to be reported to the police - who have been investigating an earlier incident
  15. Initially these boards were approved by the old Community Councils as a way of giving local residents information regarding surgeries, hustings, local events. Keys were issued to Ward Councillors and a few local activists.North Cross Road comes under Goose Green Ward. Over the years, the locks on many of the notice boards have been replaced but keys are not always given over to the original 'holders' Some do not have locks so anyone can post leaflets etc.
  16. There was talk when Maggie moved into Dulwich Village, that the house was a gift from, I think, Bovis (or some other national building company) as a PR stunt. The building company was being slated for poor quality new housing and Maggie having one of their houses, other people would take note and purchase. Heard this tale from various people including friends who had strong links to various MPs at the time.
  17. Is the care being provided via local social service dept? Has your relative received an assessment of their needs from a social worker? You may wish to look at the possibility of having a Personal Budget which allows freedom to choose own carers and pay them directly. It is quite a difficult thing to explain but look up Age UK or Independent Age's web site as they both have explanatory booklets/leaflets.
  18. Clothing bank in Plough PH car park - needs to be bagged before putting in bank,
  19. Currently under investigation.
  20. NHS is free for those who find themselves in the situation as previous entry also strokes/heart attacks etc. Cost occur when admitted and also if rehabilitation required for those who do not qualify for free care. Many years ago I worked on a stroke ward, the initial treatment was free but post stroke care which could be several weeks involving physio/speech therapy/dietitian etc was chargeable. At that time, cost of a bed was £160 per day. There is usually a section within the hospital which deals with patients etc from abroad. I remember someone from Nigeria who had a stroke, the hospital found a stroke unit near where she lived in Nigeria and paid for the air fare to return her home as this worked out cheaper than treating her in GB. Whilst we were in the EU we could receive emergency care abroad, now after Brexit we need to have full medical insurances. Not sure what the situation is now for those EU members visiting GB. The hospital I worked in had 2 million pounds owing to it from 'health tourists'.
  21. Police are very aware of this man,
  22. Sorry to take so long in replying. Dulwich Hill runs from Wood Vale down Forest Hill Road. Part of Barry Road from Upland and all roads in between plus Landells Road. You can google Dulwich Hill Ward and this will give you a more precise area covered. Some 25 completed surveys have been received in the past week, but everyone is urged to complete so the SNT can get a clearer idea of what worries/concerns local residents.
  23. My husband helps out an elderly partial sighted friend with mobility issues with her finances. She struggles to write cheques and prefers to pay for many goods in cash. Husband, after a number of attempts, persuaded her to set up direct debits/standing orders for council tax/energy bills etc after she had received bailiffs letters for non payment. She admitted that she could not see to write cheques and her mobility problems plus the closure of Lloyd's bank (staff helped her to pay things) meant that she struggled to get to the ATM at Salisbury's and also could not see the numbers to press. She now rings my husband and he uses her card to get cash for her. To some people, local banks are a source of assistance as mentioned above, which on line banking cannot provide. Where my parents used to live in West Sussex, once they were not mobile, they used to ring the local Nat West Branch and the manager would drive over to them with cash and collect their cheques. I have never heard of a bank doing this- so when the local branch went to opening 2 days a week then eventually closing - the nearest bank was 8 miles away. They gave a close friend Lasting Power of Attorney and she was able to use the only ATM in the village.
  24. I attended the Dulwich Hill SNT meeting today. Was hoping my friend would attend to give first hand report but she is in her eighties, so may be reluctant to go out alone. I reported the incident for her and also mentioned the Woodwarde Road one. Police will get in touch with my friend to get more details. Advice is not to let anyone in your home that you do not know. If they say they need to ring someone, offer to ring the person yourself but do not let them in. If a genuine person, they will give you a number etc. Any suspicious callers please let your SNT know - they can build up a picture of what is going on and if common to a specific area.
  25. Heard today of another incident - not clear if same woman. An elderly friend was in a local church when a woman sat next to her saying that she had an appointment with the minister re her grandmother who recently died. Minister did not turn up by which time, woman who was smartly dressed in her late 30s/early 40s imparted her life story. My friend went to leave and woman followed her talking on the phone allegedly to her mother in Brighton. Woman followed my friend and asked if she could go to her house for a couple of hours. Friend said that her family were waiting for her at home and she could not go in. At this point woman asked for £20, friend gave a very clear No, and woman went away. Friend took a longer route home in case woman was following her. This incident took place a day or so after the Woodwarde Road incident. Not clear if same woman. It is being reported to the Dulwich Hill SNT on Weds.
