  1. Seems out of our price range but imagine it could be around £50 without the alcohol.
  2. I tried a service wash in Brockley and it was not good at all so then tried an online one following Jules-and-Boo's suggestion (thankyou). I tried Love2Laundry. It was more expensive than a local service wash but the duvets came back clean. So I will use again. They collect and drop off. Sounds a good idea - how long did they take to do? When we used Wash and Dry in LL took in morning and collected late afternoon.
  3. I an afraid that this type of theft is not new and has been happening for many years. When my Mum died over 10 years ago we handed back her blue badge to Lewisham who thanked us for being honest! Many families keep hold of them to get free parking/priority parking. The eligibility criteria for a blue badge is hard - need to be on Attendance Allowance/PIP (mobility) and have certain unseen health conditions, or really restricted mobility or partial sight/blindness. The stolen badges are passed on for cash.
  4. We are having similar problems with our 8 year old grandson. In the last couple of years he has exploded at both home and school. His parents split 3/4 years ago and he sees his father (who lives 200 plus miles away) every 2-3 weekends plus holidays as well as talking on phone several times a week. A new male teacher at his school keeps in regular touch with my daughter and has confirmed that last autumn when he was 7, he had a reading age of 9 plus was working with maths and science subjects at a 9/10 year old level. He is very good with computers and at Christmas successfully guided his 24 year old graduate aunt through some complicated PowerPoint work. (She is very good with IT generally and was surprised that her nephew was so advanced) School is meeting my daughter next week to discuss a 'behavioural plan' along with the SENCO. They recognise that computers are 'his thing' and he will be allowed to have 20 mins at end of each day to do coding, but 10 minutes only if he has an outburst. The rest of the plan to be discussed next week. My daughter has been in touch with Young Minds and there is a 2 year waiting list for CAMS. A psychological assessment and interview plus report will cost in the region of £800 plus privately. My grandson is possibly frustrated as clearly academically advanced - hopefully the new plan will work
  5. Each street lamp has a identifying number - sometimes quicker to tell council of number and location. Has worked in past.
  6. Not heard about new ownership of Elms it is a Methodist home. Had new Care Manager in last few months, most of the old staff seem to ne there. Manley Court has a variable history - depending on Managers and staffing.
  7. Depends on which end of LL you are looking at. A long road going from Goose Green to The Grove Tavern. Some houses have front gardens and lay back from the road. others are almost on the pavement. We live on Barry Road and are used to the noise/traffic (and have double glazing) but family members who live in Worthing find it too noisy and hate staying overnight. They do not like the light pollution either
  8. The Elms in Barry Road has a consistent good reputation. Residential and like most homes- expensive. If your father qualifies for financial assistance from Social Services- they will not be able to meet the full fees so you will need to do a 3rd party contribution of a few hundred pounds. Age UK have good leaflets re care home funding as this is quite a complicated issue. Greenhithe in Brayards Road Peckham also has a good reputation . Run by Anchor Care Homes? Rose Court in Rotherhithe. Most care homes have a waiting list. Has your father been assessed by the Hospital Discharge Team Social Worker? The assessment will advise whether he needs a residential or nursing home. Also will undertake a financial assessment of his income and savings.
  9. Many thanks for your replies - I however tend if I am busy with other things (i.e 2 hospital appointments in 2 days) do not catch up with EDF for 2/3 days. Have had replies with offers but it would seem that my car would need to have a cigarette lighter attachment (or whatever it is called) in order to use a pump. Being an old car 2004 - I do not have this (as a non smoker I have never required this). Last time I had tyres pumped was around October/November. Prior to that it was August when son in law came up from Dartford and we went to petrol station to pump and top up prior to a holiday in Sussex. I have replied by PM to a couple of offers but they required the cigarette lighter to connect pump.
  10. Went to Gibbon Road last week- assumed that place was closed as could not see any visible indication of a laundrette.
  11. I believe that sometime ago a religious organisation wanted the premises but there was a lot of opposition from residents and Lewisham re parking and noise.
  12. Having been a volunteer in the past before my health deteriorated with Link Age I know they have volunteer drivers and garden help but never heard of car pumping help!
  13. Poverty was rife in ED during 50s and 60s. and with it a degree of crime. Growing up in the 1950s in ED - we lived in a top flat in Spurling Road. We shared an outside WC with the flat downstairs which meant walking through their kitchen. We had black mould in rooms as damp was coming through the flat roof. We were wired for light but not power so could not have a fridge. No hot water - washing was done with kettles in the kitchen sink. My Mum was a shop worker and I stayed with my Nan and Aunts at weekends as Mum could not afford to feed us both 7 days a week. When she ran out of money our main meal was mashed potatoes with chopped tomatoes. Mum managed to give me one shilling a day (5p) for school dinners (sometimes the only hot meal I had) There was crime - gangs in Camberwell sometimes overspilled into ED, petty crime was common including shoplifting (especially from Woolworths (now Poundland) if there was gun/knife crime - the kids were not aware of it. Most of my school friends in Grove Vale (now Goose Green) school were in similar private rental properties and came from homes where poverty was the norm.
  14. I have problems with bending down to fit air pump onto tyre valve= so owning my own pump is a non starter. I tend to pump up the tyres every couple of months now that i do not use the car daily. Might try Kwik Fit - but every time I pass there, loads of cars waiting to go in - may try the one in Sydenham.
  15. Can anyone advise where i can get my tyres pumped up? Due to arthritis and other health conditions, I find it very difficult to use petrol station pumps, and have for several years used the tyre guy at the Grove Vale (Melbourne Grove end) and give him a few pounds for doing this. Unfortunately since Christmas he has had 4 air pump lines cut. so cannot help. As the lines cost £250 each it could be some time before I can use him again. Prior to him, I used the tyre place near Turners in Barry Road (it has been gone for years so that is how long ago it was). Unfortunately family are in Kent and Sussex, and local friends are not car users. If anyone has a good tyre pump who could assist for a few pounds please PM me. Thanks,
  16. What area?
  17. The local police have been involved with the Local Sainsburys for months (all those who have attended the Dulwich Hill Police Meetings over the past year will be aware of this). There has been a lot of shoplifting at this store but the manager at the time refused to give police the CTV tapes despite several requests in person. Maybe after this incident they will become more cooperative.
  18. I used to go to The Capital cinema in the 60s/70s/80s cannot remember when the cinema closed but as far as know I have never heard of a pop concert being there. In the 60s/70s my friends an I used to go to Lewisham Odeon and Tooting Odeon seeing Freddie and the Dreamers, Herman Hermits, Walker Brothers and other groups of that era. My pop concert days ceased when I had my eldest child and got a mortgage and did not have the money for 'treats'. My music cravings are now catered by going to Churchill Theatre in Bromley.
  19. The after school care for St A is based in Christ Church Barry Road. The staff collect the children from the school which is less than 100 metres away. This pre and after school club has been running for a number of years and has a good reputation. Also their opening hours are longer than most other after school clubs making it easier for working parents to collect.
  20. I got caught last year at Lidl in Old Kent Road. had not been there before and assumed that it was 2 hour free parking as Lidl in Peckham was at that time. Was 10 minutes over their time (1.5 hrs) There were only 2 self serve tills working and only 2 assistant managed tills so had to wait 15 minutes in queue as too much to use self serve . Not been back there since.
  21. Hubby was informed that the problem was the gas leak in the street.
  22. From what I have heard from other leaseholders in Southwark bills from £5000 to £30.000 depending on type of work. My old neighbour was in a conversion flat and paid £5000 for exterior painting including scaffolding costs and within 3 months most of the paint has worn off.
  23. If you come under Dulwich Hill ward email DulwichHill.SNT@met.police.uk At the last police meeting they talked about various scams and also 'dodgy characters' who were around this time of year. If you are in Goose Green ward email GooseGreenSNT@met.police.uk
  24. When you talk of retirement homes do you mean Care Homes or a retirement complex. Retirement Homes are privately purchased properties for over 55 year olds. Leasehold with quite high maintenance charges. If Care Home - just goggle Lewis House and you should get a link to get a report on the home.
  25. For the past month there has been a notice posted on the entrance doors re closure dates. Quite clear to see and read.
