From a different perspective - we sent our daughter to Sydenham Girls school in Dartmouth Road - a short bus ride away or within walking distance if needed. Her primary school friends went to schools outside Dulwich/ Lewisham which required a bus ride to FH, then 20 minute train ride and further bus ride or a mile plus walk. Even though they were secondary age and traveled independently. their most overriding memory was having to get up early and be out of the house by 6.30 am to reach school by 8.45. Worse still in bad weather and transport strikes. Given the choice, in hindsight, stated they would have preferred to go to a local school as the constant travelling meant they were tired, found it difficult to fit in homework and early bedtimes. OK the child is only 4 and can sleep in the car both ways, but the frustration of getting to school in ED during bad weather (snow) and missing out of any out of school activities, although I doubt that a 4 year old will have much in the way of homework. St Dunstan's school in Catford has a reception class and I imagine this would cut at least 20 - 30 mins off a rush hour journey from Greenwich. An old colleague of mine who lived in the Crystal Palace area, used to drop his eldest daughter off at Oakfield on his way to work. Used to take him 30 mins to school and then another 20 - 30 mins to Camberwell where we were based.

help! fine for parking in Tessa Jowell Centre!

You have to register your vehicle in the reception area - and signage is quite clear both in the car park and by the entrance doors. -
District Nursing Service has difficulty in providing full services as generally have staff vacancies. They need to prioritize patients who require daily insulin injections and are unable to inject themselves. There is also the dressing of wounds i.e. leg ulcers. Monitoring of patients with terminal illnesses who do not have a specialist nurse (McMillan/St Christopher's etc). Many paid carers will not administer medication (they have to be trained and approved of by District Nurses) and can only prompt and supervise medication. In the many years I have been with my GP surgery - most of the reception staff know me by my first name and are helpful. I went through a period where I had to attend daily to have dressings changed (in GP surgery or Lister Primary Care Centre) - this went on for several months with gradually decreasing attendance. Both the nurses at the practice were excellent and I could not fault the practice at all.

Assault on East Dulwich Road Opposite Goose Green Playground
Pugwash replied to Jan42's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Find out when/where your Safer Neighbourhood Police Team hold their meeting and participate in them. Dulwich Hill SNT held their meeting over Zoom. Not sure when the next meeting is due. -
Sheltered Housing complex - run by either LBS or Housing Association with weekly rental rates.

DMC referral for vaccine at Tessa Jowell?
Pugwash replied to midivydale's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Agree with above - my GP surgery arranged the appointment at TJC all I had to do was give my name at the centre. -
If you are able to pay a fee contact [email protected]. You can also read more about them on Cassel Centre on goggle. It was a Forest Hill based charity.

I have not been able to use their 'click and collect system' as the on line page does not appear to offer this service any more. Last year I was able to use this. I also collected and returned books to an open Dulwich Library. Would have thought that the library would be an 'essential service' - I like many others read on a daily basis and the library is my life line as I cannot afford to purchase books. I did buy a few books in St. Christopher's shop at ?2 each, but have read them all. It would be easy to contain numbers going into library just to use computers and select books. Allow each person a maximum of 45 minutes each. They do not have to open up the reference library.

if you are coming via the South Circular i would add another hour onto your journey. I used to have to travel to Greenwich University during rush hour and noted the traffic jams from Forest Hill, Catford and beyond. It may be less of a journey due to lockdown. Have you done a trial run? A friend of mine moved from Croydon whilst her daughter was still at primary school, to Chatham area, did not want to up root her daughter in her final year at school. Used to leave at around 6.30 am to get to Croydon and then onto Sutton by 9 am where she worked. Daughter missed going out with her friends after school and felt that she lost out on outings etc.

Big St Christopher's open for donations only
Pugwash replied to siousxiesue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Some of their stuff is of good quality hence higher costs. They also have a hefty rent bill to pay each month. Their landlord gave them an option of paying higher rent or get out. There had been enquirers from a large national chain to open up there (cannot remember which one as was told a while ago by one of the volunteers) -
I was lucky to have a work place nursery for my youngest from the age of 6 months to almost 5. Fees were based on my annual salary. In 1985 they were ?25 per week and increased to around ?50 pw in 1989

Goose Green roundabout damage 1st March
Pugwash replied to Bony Fido's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Years ago it was proposed to either reduce the size of the roundabout or disperse it completely. There was a massive outcry against both proposals and the scheme was dropped. -
Gail's - no masks on staff - how come?
Pugwash replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If people are exempt from wearing masks, they can wear visors which will give some protection. -

Does that take small electrical items? -
British Heart Foundation in Old Kent Road. However with the closures of charity shops most charities are not taking donations of any kind.

We had 6 nuisance calls in one day last week- half putting the phone down and others a recorded message.

These signs are not clear enough No thorough road applies for the blocking off of Court Lane at Carlton Avenue. You can obviously go down Eynella and Court Lane .

I looked twice for the one on Sydenham Hill near Woodhouse last year but could not find it. -
I must admit that any funerals we have arranged (6 i think at the last count) We have given a tip to the Pall bearers only. I think it was ?20 in total to be shared out. Last funeral we did was my father's 5/6 years ago and in Sussex. SE16 sounds like Albins who have a very high standard and reputation.

I have had vaccine with no side effects. I have friends who are on warfarin/anti coagulants who are unsure whether to take vaccine and are in contact with their GP as to whether the risk of side effects were greater than that of catching covid. There are many people for medical reasons are unable to have the jab and the majority of us who have had the vaccine will go a long way of protecting these people. My godson when he was less than 2 weeks old contracted meningitis and was in critical care for over a week - his parents were advised not to have any of the usual childhood vaccinations as he was a high risk of complications. Admittedly this was over 30 years ago and medical science has improved.

Need to be referred by GP and given the appropriate forms to hand over to them. First time I went seen within 10 minutes, 2nd time seem within 20 mins.

I remember some years ago there were questions being asked of the local police about pavement cyclists and the dangers they presented to pedestrians. The general consensus was that young children were safer on the pavement with either an adult cycling alongside them on the road, or walking. As far as I am aware, it is still illegal to cycle on the pavement. Our local copper at the time would turn a blind eye to young children on small bikes riding on the pavement as it was safer than the road, but older primary/secondary age kids with or without adults, he would ask them to use the roads. Given the number of cyclists now using the pavements, the police would not be able to make any effective measures. I assume if you were knocked down by a pavement cyclist - it would be 'dangerous driving'. If you were injured by a jogger - i.e them knocking into you would it be assault?
