Congestion Charge now AT WEEKENDS and until 22:00 every day
Pugwash replied to Bradlington's topic in The Lounge
Perhaps there should have been more checks that people using buses are using their oyster cards etc. On a short journey from Plough to Goose Green - I witnessed around 10 people of different ages just boarding the bus without presenting their card. Maximum passengers on buses (double decker's) is 30 so one third of passengers not paying. Multiply this by all the bus routes - still amounts to millions lost over a period of time. -
We have purchased face shields to wear as I rely most of the time on lip reading and find this difficult when husband (and others ) are wearing a mask. I have no problems wearing masks but find that I have to take off glasses and hearing aid to put them on. Hubby now wears a face shield and I can lip read him perfectly now.

Try British Heart Foundation in Old Kent Road. As far as I can see, most charities are choc a block with donations and with the need to 'isolate' all donations for 72 hours before putting in shop, most places have very limited storage space.

Dulwich library - is it open? If not, when will it?!
Pugwash replied to localyocal's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Heard today that Dulwich library is being refurbished and will not reopen until mid August. Peckham is not being used due to having lifts. Grove Vale Library's future is uncertain. If Grove Vale was open we could at least return books taken out in March and select from a limited choice so reading matter to last the next few weeks. Grove vale library was only opened in the last year or so - having been delayed for some time whilst building works were underway. If it is closed then people around the Albrighton Estate. Melbourne Grove and Grove Vale end of LL, will have to travel down to Camberwell or to Dulwich Library. I thought Southwark was keen to encourage reading and other activities in libraries for all children to participate in, but it seems not to care. -

Hubby is a charity shop volunteer and has been advised that maximum number of 'customers' in shop at any one time is 8. Donations taken in twice a week only and have to be stored for 72 hours before being put on display. This includes clothes, books and bric a brac. -
In reply to penguin68 I am the chair of the Dulwich Hill neighbourhood police team - we usually meet at Christ Church Barry Road but with lockdown etc and ban on meetings, we are not sure when we are able to meet again. Christ Church is anticipated to reopen in September.

I agree and that it is also illegal to cycle on pavements.

Have copied your post and sent it to the Dulwich Hill Neighbourhood Police team if you require their email address please pm me.

Also recommend Tim at Sakura - he cut back a large elm in our garden and also a smaller tree (identity unknown) Observed all safety regulations - harnesses, hats etc. very efficient and reasonable price.

See my post of 14th July. From James Cash previous post Libraries and Museums in England have been included for re-opening in July as part of the government?s phase 3 re-opening plans. The government have advised that libraries cannot open before this point. Re-opening plans for Southwark libraries are being informed by Southwark?s corporate Covid 19 guidelines and advice and guidance from the government's Libraries Taskforce. In current plans we are hoping to re-open six of our libraries in the week beginning 13th July using a phased approach in order to ensure a safe environment for staff and library users (Canada Water, Dulwich, Camberwell, Nunhead, Brandon, and Blue Anchor). It must be stressed that the plans depend upon the Covid 19 situation and government advice- if the infection rate increases or government advice changes then plans will need to be adapted in response to this. In the current plan the libraries will re-open on a limited basis offering an order and collect service where books are pre-ordered and collected in the entrance/foyer area. Books can be returned and there will be a 'grab and go' service of pre-selected stock. There will be no general public access to the library beyond this. If the Covd 19 situation continues to stablilise then during August the service will be extended to reinstate limited public access to libraries, with potential full opening currently scheduled for September/October. All of this will be subject to social distancing guidelines and any other measures that the government advise. No notice on gates of Dulwich Library as to possible date of opening -
Whilst I do not object to small children cycling on the pavement whilst the adult/parent is cycling along side them in the road, there seems to be a trend of both adults and children cycling on the pavement. Going to Sainsbury's Local the other day 2 adults with 2 children (around 8 and 10) cycling on pavements from Sainsbury's to Plough Pub and then blocking narrow stretch of pavement by traffic lights as waited for lights to change to cross over to Lloyds bank side. There was a couple with a child in a pram, myself and another elderly person who were effectively unable to get passed them until the lights changes.

I wear a mask on public transport but not generally in shops or on the street. If I was in a very limited environment where social distancing was a 'bit iffy' I would wear a mask. Have found that masks worn over a period of time make my glasses steam up. Purchased a box of disposable masks from Boots.

I have a load of hard back biographies/auto biographies which have been my reading matter since lockdown and closures of libraries - all in good condition as purchased new. Also had a turn out of cookery books.

Dulwich Medical Centre - not answering
Pugwash replied to SebsC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have regular medication and keep the copy of the prescription when issued by pharmacist, to take into pharmacy the next time I need medication. This was set up by my GP surgery and I have been using this method since March. -
George Hammond was our local police officer = he recovered from his injuries but died many years later. He was well liked and the East Dulwich Community Centre which was originally the Alleyn Community Centre, had a fund raising evening to raise money for a scanner at KCH in his name. Around ?1000 was donated to the Appeal. It took place in February 1986 - I remember it as I was one of the organiser and held the drinks licence and was at the event 2 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. Our next 'beat officer' was Mike cannot remember his surname but was a colleague of George and kept us informed of his health. After Mike Adrian Crust became the beat officer.

I lived in ED from 1950 - 1968 and moved back in 1971 and am still here. Woolworths where Foxons is now. Toy shop and drapers opposite Co Op. Supermarket - Somerfields where Co Op is.NX Rd had a small market - mainly vegetables, household items, and haberdashery. Very quiet area - not much to do for young people. My friend and I went to Thomas More's Youth club where picture palace is now.

Rae Mansions is a block of leasehold flats.
-
Hedge in front of Rae Mansions in Barry Road ( Lordship Lane end) I stepped into the road to allow a young mum and buggy to pass as hedge is reducing the width of pavement.
-
There was originally a Youth Club at Dawson Heights - Southwark Council withdrew funding from the Post Box YC at the East Dulwich Community Centre in order to concentrate resources on Dawson heights. Not sure whether this club was around still prior lockdown.

Went about 3 pm on Tuesday - no queue - came out around 4 ish still no queue

I have no problems in wearing a mask but as a person who lip reads as I have only partial hearing, it would be helpful if other mask wearers take in to consideration that I may ask them to repeat anything that is said to me. I have head the experience of people talking to me and I have asked them to repeat for them to get very aggressive .
