  1. which end of Barry?
  2. May be worth a mention to Southwark's anti social behavioural unit as Lola one of the officers, frequently has to deal with residents who appear to have mental health issues. Also a mention to the Goose Green SNT.
  3. I was in Camberwell coming back from Kings and heard fireworks around 9.15ish but could not see any displays.
  4. we have a drive, dropped kerb and also double yellow lines (which were put in without any consultation with ourselves) and I still have cars and heavy vehicles parking across. Fortunately, I was not using the car that day, when a long vehicle with building material pulled up to unload and was there for almost an hour. Last week, white car (mini cab) parked blocking my exit, sounded my horn a few times and indicated to mini cab driver on the other side of road that I wanted to get out - he asked me to wait as his fare was not ready and he was not prepared to move the car. He had left a very small gap and I was able to squeeze through with about 2 inches to spare.
  5. For the past couple of weeks, a large tabby cat has been visiting our garden , coming in through the cat flap and helping him/herself to cat food. Not aggressive and does not seem to worry our cats. This cat looks very much like the cat who visited us daily for about a year 2/3 years ago - so may be the same. Have you just moved back into the area? Cat looks healthy and well cared for and a little tubby. Found him/her asleep in our dining room once. If your cat disappears for several hours each day and you live in the Landells Road/Plough Lane/Barry Road - let me know.
  6. Not recently, but they do not have many parking spaces and I usually ended up parking on the meter opposite in Lewisham Park. When I had to work at Lewisham Hospital I used to park in the Catford Multi storey and get a bus down to the hospital.
  7. Dulwich Hill ward covers from Crystal Palace Road upto Dawsons Heights, Barry Road (part) Piermont Green and up Forest Hill Road. Since the officers are based at Gypsy Hill they face a long walk or cycle ride before they get to ED.
  8. It would have been more logical to have temp traffic lights from Upland/Tyrrell so traffic can pass by on 'open stretch' of road, with further lights by the Rye (further back than current ones) Must admit it was easier to go down Dunstans and along Rye than to use Oakhurst . Where are these 'Not suitable for HV signs'? I have driven up LL and down Barry Road numerous times and have not seen these signs. Also heavy traffic coming down Etherow Street and turning right into Barry
  9. can you complain to OFSTEAD or whatever body now does these visits/scrutinises?
  10. In some country areas - wild flowers are sown around the base of trees, along grass verges and in front of hedges.
  11. Yesterday a sign saying road closed ahead was outside Lloyds Bank pointing down L. Lane. By the lights on Barry Road (Plough Pub) another sign saying Road ahead closed. A lot of confusion for motorists!!
  12. Our 4 bedroom house has 2 toilets and bathrooms - these were here in the early 1970s before we purchased the property. Maximum number of people staying at our place is usually 6 - 8 and 2 toilets are on the go most times and we could do with a 3rd.
  13. May's deal was better than nothing - the backstop seemed to be a sensible compromise allowing more time to sort out the border questions etc. The DUP MPs have not been representing their constituents in NI Parliament but are still drawing their salary, if I lived in NI I would be asking my constituency party to deselect them.
  14. Having been caught up in Oakhurst/Kelmore Roads this morning - even middle sized vans were having difficulty. Coming back up Barry Road - I noticed a very large vehicle ignoring the road closure signs and obvious barriers trying to get past Tyrell. It was about the width and length of a bus but much taller.
  15. I suggest that people get an understanding of crime in the area by turning up at their ward Police Safer Neighbourhood Team meetings. It would appear that many of these meetings have low attendance rates and I gather there is concerns as to why poorly attended - is it the venue or the times of the meetings, or apathy ?. Just go to the Met Police SNT page to find out more about your ward's meeting dates and Police Officers.
  16. When I used to cycle to work - I had wing mirrors on both handlebars - found that motorists give me a little more room as well. Use to cycle from ED to Westminster Bridge via Camberwell, Kennington and Vauxhall using mainly back streets.
  17. long line of traffic from Goose Green Roundabout along ED Road - difficulty for traffic going up LL. I guess I will have to drive hubby to his GP appointment at The Gardens using the back streets as normally he would bus down there as has problems with walking.
  18. The closure of part of Barry Road has been detailed in the Southwark News for the last 3/4 week although not in last Thursdays. The impression I got was that only one side of the carriage way would be open, temp traffic lights? No indication re bus routes etc. We saw the diversion signs going up yesterday for 12 and 197 - via lordship lane but no other indications.
  19. Once again the EDCCA welcome you to our annual Open Day. This year it will be on Friday 13th September 11 - 2.30 pm. Vauxhall City Farm will again be bringing a selection of their animals. Further details see attachment.
  20. The only problem with Chichester is the parking - I know this area quite well as parents used to live near there. Last time we visited we went by train as hotel did not have parking and there was no street parking. Will have a look again.
  21. Some people make their own bikes from an assortment of 'pieces'
  22. We have a number of special birthdays coming up in early 2020 - ranging from 4,16,21,34,47 and 70 years - all between 17th January and 2nd February. and I suggested a family weekend away. Suggestion of Worthing as everyone can get there by either car or train. Will be either 8 or 9 adults and 2 children under 6. If only 8 adults - we would need 3 double/twin rooms plus a family room for 4. Would like a hotel or good B & B with breakfast as we plan to eat out in the evening. If we are 9 would need a single room as well. Tried several hotels and B & B s for Sat 1st/Sun 2nd Feb but most places booked up or have limited rooms. Family rooms seem to cater for only one child (we will have a 4 year old and his almost 6 year old sister) Do not want to go for a Premier Inn or such as special occasion. Have even tried Butlins at Bognor but they do not appear to be open. Any suggestions/recommendations welcome. Needs to be within 2 hours car drive south of London, near a railway station (in case of bad weather also non drivers)Also within an hour or so drive from Goring on Sea, and rail/coach distance from Portsmouth. have also looked at a couple of hotels in Arundel- again lack of availability in either dates or rooms. Alternative suggestions? Due to work/school/university commitments we cannot do Friday - Monday so Self catering in currently not an option.
  23. I had LPA for my Dad for around 10 years. LPAs superseded Enduring Powers of Attorney which needed to be registered with the Courts of Protection - but once registered can be used even though LPAs were now the alternative. Dad did his through his solicitor with me present - this was because Dad was going through a separation with my step mother and he wanted to change his will at the same time. Once the certified copies came through I took them to Nat West Bank along with ID for myself also proof of address etc. Nat West did not know what to do with them so I had to explain that they needed to photocopy them as well as my ID details and signature and arrange that all statements went to my address. The bank manager I met later on apologised for her staff's lack of knowledge - it was a small village branch and they rarely had to deal with such requests. I was also issued with cheque books with my name on plus Dad's name, and a debit card. Barclays bank also had copies of the certificated documents and my ID and Dad agreed to use the money in this account to purchase a Funeral Plan - he signed the cheque at this stage and I later closed the account as he used Nat West for his pensions/bills etc. Years later - I discovered annual bank statements in his drawer at the care home (he was registered blind at this stage). Went along to Barclays to sort out this account which they had forgotten to tell me about and found that because all their records had been sent to a larger branch, could not find original documentation. What was worse since he had not drawn on the account for many years, and money a couple of thousand of pounds had been put into a 'general account'. Took nearly a year to sort out. Lesson - once certified copies are received - take them to banks/building society. perhaps with parents, and make sure that all accounts are covered and where bank statements are to be sent. Ideally get a letter confirming that they are in receipt of documentation and confirmation as to who received statements. Keep accurate accounts as Courts of Protection can ask for annual accounts. Also if anyone challenges the attorneys 'honesty' COP can call in the accounts/statements at any time. I am in the process of doing an LPA for finance/property for myself and hubby. I think the special instructions relating to Health and Welfare may relate to End of Life Care and funeral wishes. From professional experience it is very hard for families to discuss death with their loved ones and it may be easier to have this discussion when completing LPA forms. My mother had stated that she did not want to die alone or in hospital and had requested that if possible she die in St. Christopher's Hospice. When it was realised she would only have days to live, we were able to get her into the hospice where she passed away 10 days later. St Christopher's have booklets on End of Life care and wishes which may be helpful to you. LPAs are less costly to undertake and need to be taken out when the donor has full mental capacity and is able to understand and consent to the procedure. If someone lacks mental capacity - the application to the Courts of Protection is expensive and arduous and requires considerable documentation - also confirmation from a professional i.e. GP, OT. Social Worker, Nurse, solicitor - that person does not have the mental capacity to understand and manage their finances. It used to take COP upto 26 weeks from receiving forms to officially appointing Attorney etc, but there was talk of this being reduced to around 20 weeks. From my experience LPAs tend to take around 12 weeks.
  24. There are a number of them in ED - my aunt used to live in one in Pellatt Road. Only 2 bedrooms - lived there well after her girls married and only left when husband died. She loved the house. As long as the front door has good locks should not be a problem
  25. We used to get our eggs from a local butcher until he closed down and always returned the polystyrene egg boxes to him which he forwarded to the producer. Our current butcher will not take back egg boxes so we give to a friend who has chickens and sometimes has an excess of eggs to give away.
