Which GP surgery for chronic conditions
Pugwash replied to binkylilyput's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Most GPs have a catchment area - The Gardens changed theirs some time ago going more towards Nunhead.Rye/Peckham area rather than Barry Road area -
Properties for sale in ED that require doing up
Pugwash replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Following a death - hubby inherited a property which was divided into 3 flats - one flat was leased out but the remaining 2 flats needed extensive work on them. We were quoted ?60.000 (15 years ago) just for external repairs. i.e. guttering, damp course, replacement windows, repointing etc. That was without updating electrics and remodelling rooms i.e. grotty kitchen and bathroom, and all decorations. Hubby not practical and project was to big for me also we did not gave the cash to fork out for builders. In the end the sitting tenant got a mortgage and purchased the 2 flats from us (in 2 stages) and took a couple of years to modernise the place. We sold it cheaply to get rid of the property- but in hindsight if we could have raised the repair money and had professionals in to do the work- we could have got over ?1 million for it as a large detached property in its own grounds -
When I lived in Holland - chips with either curry sauce or mayonnaise were the favourites. I preferred the roll mop bap as not a big chip fan. family thought I had odd tastes!

I have always found Southwark News keen to report on local stories/concerns. -
Lame window cleaning scam - Goose Green area
Pugwash replied to se22cat's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you attend your local police SNT meetings you will find that all reported crimes/concerns are mentioned and usually a spate of scams/attempted crimes/concerns occur in specific areas/ certain times. The police then have enough/sufficient intelligence to monitor the situation. It may be that a certain person was just released from prison and are back to their old tricks and operating in the local area. We are aware that theft of 4 x 4 vehicles are occurring in areas of ED but neighbouring areas of Nunhead and Peckham are also being targeted which police feel is the work of a particular gang/persons. Awareness of these different crimes/scams etc can lead to increased police patrols. -
Check with the allotment management committee or other allotment owners if they have had similar experiences.

Burgled last night (31st May 2019)
Pugwash replied to twinhunters's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I gather from our local police officer that the photo of the men was sent to them and passed around officers from adjoining wards and someone Identified one of them. They are urging more people to report crimes as the 'criminals' are crossing ward borders and patterns are emerging of particular crimes. -
This is a dodgy corner, especially if you are driving up from CPR into LL - difficult to see the traffic coming up from Townley. I tend to use Landells road.

Crossing Lordship Lane just below Friern road
Pugwash replied to roxie99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Do you mean the junction of Friern Road (where 12 buses stand) with Lordship Lane? Did you try and cross using the island? This can be dicey as cars coming round the bend from The Grove do tend to speed. Best bet to walk down to lights outside Dulwich Library. -
Emily's North Cross Road - run by Ahmed and his wife.

The only family firm I can recommend is F.A. Albin in Bermondsey. They did a couple of old friends of ours. Having had to arrange 6 family funerals over the years - do not be afraid to get comparative quotes as we found costs differ by up to a ?900. Check whether deceased had a pre paid funeral plan. Both my Mum and Dad had one - there was a considerable difference in their plan and the 'market price'. We saved around a ?1000 or more because the plans had been taken out many years previously.

Next Door has been promoted by the Met and what I gathered at a police meeting that you need to register your address etc but this is to clarify that you are a genuine resident. Your details should not be publicised. I wonder if this is a scam website ? Check with your ward SNT officer - details from Met Police website.

A friend of mine had a small tree in a large ceramic pot in her front garden -that got nicked- would have taken 2 people to lift it.

Large rat in back garden, 4:45pm today
Pugwash replied to FussyGalore's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We had rats in our dining room a couple of years ago. Got Pest control company who pointed out that 2 doors down were doing building work and had obviously disturbed a nest whilst dinging the foundations for an extension. Laid down poison under a loose floorboard, came back twice to check situation - not had rats since. Touch wood. -
Noise early in the morning Underhill Road
Pugwash replied to Ronnijade's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are bylaws relating to times of work and I have a feeling that noisy work/building is prohibited on a Sunday. Check with Environmental Services at Southwark. -
Another Land Rover stolen from St aidans Road
Pugwash replied to Lcpt's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If I am correct - St. Aidans Road come under the Dulwich Hill SNT. There are 2 new officers PC. Lewis and PC Brewer Their priorities for the next 3 months are vehicle crimes, and school liaison You can contact them via the Met police website under Dulwich Hill. They also hold 'surgeries' at Christ Church (Weds lunch time?) and at St. Clements Church Friern Road - not sure of days for this. Please report this - Dulwich Hill ward is thought to be low crime area compared with the 2 other Dulwich SNT - however it has been discovered that residents are not reporting crimes to the SNT as they feel that Police will not be able to do anything. With the other SNTs it was discovered that more residents were reporting crimes and this has lead to a more visible police presence in specific streets/more car patrols also an arrest which resulted in less crime in those areas. -
A friend of mine some years ago fell for a scam where someone stated they would remove wood/plants/bramble from her front garden. She refused him, and was furious to find some days later whilst she was out that same person had approached her husband with the same request and he allowed the guy to remove the stuff and had paid him. Relating the story ( and her annoyance re her husband) to our local beat officers - they arranged to interview both of them at home and took descriptions. Police kept couple informed for several months and reported that the same 'gang' were targeting elderly people in ED with ground clearance, replacing downpipes and guttering, roof tiles etc. Police asked her to warn any vulnerable neighbours/friends/etc and to contact them should they be approached by this gang.

I tried to join SE23 as a charity I am involved in is in this area and I was asked to publicise job vacancies and also it's services. Got a message to say I had logged in and I would be contacted with 'log in' code but never heard anything. I decided to advertise the job vacancies on EDF and the charity appointed one of the applicants.

One of our cats was injured whilst exploring a garden at the back of us, she found herself trapped under some loose bricks but managed to crawl into our neighbour's garden where we found her the next day. Unfortunately had broken all the toes in one of her hind legs and ended up having her leg amputated. Was quicker on 3 legs than had been on 4. Lived until she was around 15 but had to be put down due to cancer. Whereabouts is Brookstone Court - I know I have seen it but cannot place it.

Recommendation for local solicitor for wills
Pugwash replied to Mrsrhireid's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We have used William Bailey and his colleagues for many years. East Dulwich Road -
I may be wrong but was a section of GG fenced off just for dogs? This must have been a few years ago when they renewed the railings.

The meetings take place 3 monthly and it was an opportunity for the 2 new officers to introduce themselves. They also hold regular 'surgeries' in the area where local residents can speak re concerns.

We have Road Watch - should we have Poo Watch - high vis wearers from police/council/local residents doing a couple of hour on Goose Green targeting owners who do not pick up. Is it a on the spot fine they can occur? -

Reading you message again - I am surprised that Glos. Social Worker would indicate that neither of them would qualify for LA funding. Did you look at the various sections of the Care Act 2014 which lays out the eligibility criteria ? I will look at the documents I have on my system to see if I can see anything that will help. Community Care magazine is pretty good for test cases. Sometimes I keep copies to use for teaching purposes. If I find anything -will contact you again. Irwin Mitchell Solicitors do a lot of work with Older people and seem to specialise in Community Care and Safeguarding Adults ( I have been on courses run by them in London) may be worth a try ringing them up.
