My surgery has a number of PT GPs and the appointments are covered well. If you need an urgent appointment your surgery can arrange an emergency slot at the Lister Extended Care Service surgery.

With LL closed off from the Plough to CPR, all 5 routes are using Barry Road which means it is difficult in places for 2 buses to pass each other so traffic is building up. One advantage is that you can stop any of the routes as 176,185 and 40s will turn up ED Road after they go down Barry. Work expected to last 2 days,

HE'S HOME! - One last push for lost tabby cat Cheetah
Pugwash replied to AdrianB's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
So glad he is home - we have 3 cats ourselves and panic if we do not see them during the day. For a couple of years we had a 'visitor cat' whom we nicknamed Bill who spent a lot of time in our garden and frequently came in the cat flap and helped himself to dry food. He looked well cared for so we never actively fed him, but were happy to give him shelter during bad weather. However for the last year we have not seen Bill so assumed that his family had moved or he adopted some one else. -
The cost of food on Christmas Day is very expensive and unless you have in excess of ?50 per head available - just go in for a drink. Many years ago, parents in law (now deceased) invited hubby and I to a local hotel restaurant for a Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. Our youngest child was not yet born (so this is around 32 years ago) There were so many diners and slow service meant that we did not get dessert as the taxis booked arrived. I remember hearing that the meal was ?25 per head - an exorbitant price for the era. Since then, we have never been out for a Christmas or New Years Eve meal.

Lordship lane roadworks - closure 18-30 November

details of closures and alternative routes have been in the local papers the last 2 weeks. -
Complain to PALS (also to Southwark News). Kings (and other hospitals) were informed some time ago that elderly/vulnerable patients should not be discharged in the evening as even though a care package may have been arranged and the hospital informed of the details of the agency and time of first call, they should have realised that the patient would not have made it home in time. When I was working, we used to inform the ward that unless patient was discharged and would be at home for x time, they should not discharge someone who did not have a reliable relative or friend waiting for them at home. Care Agencies rarely work past 9 am. Also ambulance crews should check that patient could transfer independently in a chair or bed before leaving the house. If person was non weight bearing, the crew should assist into bed. SORRY SHOULD HAVE SAID 9 PM not 9 AM. Some folk are desperate to get out of hospital and do not really appreciate that they are in a weak state and cannot climb stairs/get into bed etc and are too proud to seek help. I recall many years ago that an elderly person arrived very late evening at a local care home - the Ambulance Service had been given the wrong address for person - the home took her/him in for the night and the next day sent them back to the hospital. Worse is when family/friends say that they will be at the property to let in discharged patient and approximate time is given for discharge and when ambulance crew get to the property - cannot get in so end up returning patient to hospital ward to find that their bed has already been allocated to someone else!

Having had to visit the extended primary care service at Lister every 2/3 days over the past 2 weeks as I have a leg wound which is not healing and am due to attend another 4 times in the next 10 days or so. Have not had the above experiences - I am due to go Saturday first time at a weekend, so will see if there is a difference.

have done several probates over the years - straight forward using the on site forms. The only difficult probate was Father in Law's where he had lots of stocks and shares which our solicitor dealt with.

Residents' parking charges for cars are ?125 pa and ?31.25 for motor bikes. So if you are a 2 car family with lots of family/friends visiting on a regular basis - you could end up paying out around ?10 per week. Visitors (including tradespeople) permits range form ?1.55 for 2 hours to ?5.15 per day. You can also purchase these in blocks of 10 which is cheaper. Home Care Workers are not permitted to have individual parking permits but their agency is only allowed 5 permits per year to be shared amongst all of their workers. You will need to consider that if you have a care package of say 3 visits a day and a CPZ in introduced in your street (regardless whether it is all day or 2 hours) this may have an impact on your care giver's ability to continue to provide support at the times previously given. Care workers having to find a non CPZ street to park in order to visit you. Of course many carers do not use a car, so this will have little impact for them. However if you have informal carers i.e. family/friends who pop in for a hour or so during the day to cook a meal, help you with personal care etc - they will have to have a visitor's permit on a daily basis. Having lived in the past, in areas close to stations, I can see the attraction of a 2 hour CPZ to prevent commuters parking. The roads off Lordship Lane are a nightmare to find a parking space. When I had my car serviced by a garage off LL, I used to go down around 9 pm the night before to park the car and put keys through letter box as found that even going around 7 am there were no spaces. It is important, as MarkT states to make your views known early if you are against CPZ (or only favour a 2 hour) as non communication of your wishes will be seen by Southwark as an acceptance of a CPZ.

The truth about the new charge for bulk item collection....

There are many Tory Boroughs who run a good and cost effective service for their residents. -

The truth about the new charge for bulk item collection....
Pugwash replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
Bromley charges per item , I think it is around ?20 per item. They also do not have wheelie bins and recycle boxes are open topped so rubbish is blown around. Family members living in Orpington are 'envious' of our bins and waste collection. It is a Tory borough and has been for years. -
We have had frogs in our garden for many years. Originally discovered when local residents were campaigning about development of several houses in Plough Lane. A rare breed of frog was discovered by specialists from London Zoo. It got to the South London Press and headlines were 'local residents were hopping mad'. If my memory is correct this was in the early 1980s. because of this find - Southwark Planners only gave permission for a few house to be built and not the number the developer wanted. I think, but not sure, that a section of the old alley way between Landells and Barry was put under a protection order. We have a small pond in the garden currently holding one frog but we have had more in the past.

Consultation re speed reducation proposals in Barry Rd.
Pugwash replied to Pugwash's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Re my previous message. BARA met with the planners as stated above. Southwark are against having another public consultation as most people have replied to the on line survey. (around 70 at the last count). They are insistent that all residents in Barry Road were sent a letter addressed to The Occupier - by post, but agreed that many receiving such a mail would not open it thinking that it was a marketing letter. Closing date for all comments etc is 14th October. The scheme is linked to the Southwark Spine proposals for Landells/Goodrich/Crystal Palace Roads and the Quietway proposals for the area could also impact . For this reason the finalised scheme will not be known until late 2018/early 2019 and work will not take place until 2019 when finances etc and contracts can be awarded. The next Community Council Meeting is 31st October - I suggest people raise this with their local Goose Green and Dulwich Hill Councillors and request that this be discussed at this meeting. -
Barry Road has had several Road Watches re speeding motorists - I have attended 2 in the last month. Any resident can request this. The Road Watch Team will liaise with you as to the date and time you can be with them. It is best if you have another couple of people with you - you get to use a speed gun, car/vehicle registration details are noted down on a sheet if they exceed 25 mph. The police are with you the whole time.

This request for loos is not new = back in the early 1980s, the 3 Residents Associations NARA (North Cross Area) PARA (Pellatt area) and BARA (Barry Area) campaigned for a public loo in the North Cross Road area - a site was identified (near the electricity sub station) but Southwark Council refused. We were informed that people could use the local pubs and cafes. In the 1950s and 1960s there was a toilet in the Goose Green Playground for children to use. I think it may have been there until the 1970s as have a vague recollection of my eldest child using it.

Some of the garages are still being used by local residents for storage as well as cars.
