  1. The East Dulwich Community Centre in Darrell Road may have a few slots available for community group hire - they prefer regular groups to lots of private hirers as they want to retain the 'community aspect' of the centre. Have a look at their web site
  2. Have sent a checking email to VF to verify or not whether their so called email service has ceased ( as their letter suggests) No email has bounced back which suggests that VF still using the email listed on their contracts.
  3. Finally got a 3 page letter from VF but no breakdown of costs said to be following in 3 - 5 days. Unfortunately we have discovered another scam, My husband left most of the negotiating with VF to his daughter and her friend (allegedly a Probation Officer) as he was not well and all the contracts were in Harlow where the grandsons (17 & 20 live - the eldest has moderate learning disabilities) Daughter and friend say they have emails sent to VF but have refused to give us copies as have not got printers. VF state that they ceased their email contacts some time ago as people prefer to phone. Daughter and Friend advised that VF had informed them that since we cancelled our DD payments the only way to pay the ?200 cancelled contract and ?700 outstanding costs, was through internet banking. Husband sent daughter money to do this but VF state that they have never received money. I was furious as I had offered to deal with the situation in the first place but daughter kept 'forgetting' to give contracts over to him when he visited. I have now got 'Which Legal' involved and my husband, who has mental health problems, has been referred by our GP who was equally horrified by the situation, to CMHT for support as being a pensioner with limited income is worried as to how he can pay the debts.
  4. Gumboots have an after school play group at Goodrich
  5. The cross bar and rear seats are common sight in Holland where I lived for a few months, with adults carrying 2 children
  6. Just spent another 30 minutes on the phone to them and got nowhere, they kept saying they will write to us and a letter is on the way. So guess I will need to wait a couple of days for this. Have gone through the bank statements and noticed since the boys have been stopped from using the phones the DD are very much lower with just the line rental cost until we cancelled.
  7. In the space of 8 days we have been landed with 2 letters from Vodaphone advising that we have an outstanding debt of over ?2000. Several months ago they took ?1400 out of our bank account, when we checked with bank and Voadaphone were advised that this was a mistake and the money was refunded. However it did highlight that the phone contracts for our 2 grandsons needed to be terminated early as they were going over their limit. We suspect that there was some money outstanding for these. Contracts cancelled and DD cancelled with Vodaphone promising to send detailed statements as to the amount which needed to be cleared. No communication from Vodaphone at all until last week. Spend an hour on the phone trying to sort it out today - already had sent a letter recorded delivery stating that we had cancelled contracts and paid ?200 to cancel these- still waiting as to how this debt arose. Phone calls to 4 people in Vodaphone today - none of them can trace anything as do not recognise either of the boys mobile numbers. We know there is some money to pay, we are not disputing that, but not the amount billed. Any tips please as everyone I spoke with about this company all have had problems with inaccurate billing. Going to sigh up to 'Which Legal' as looks as though we will need them
  8. sounds a bit of nut case - have seen cyclist in the park with dogs on lead, but on the highway with a child is asking for trouble
  9. I pay my son in law and his mate ?15 per hour plus endless cups of coffee, pies/sandwiches from the bakers and they are happy. Sometimes I pay them by the day or the job - depends on what they are doing for me
  10. James, as a frequent driver down LL, some weeks ago I was travelling up from the roundabout and was just nearing the traffic lights by the Bishop which were on green, had to slam o my brakes as a car coming down from ED Grove decided to ignore the no right turn notices and almost crashed into me. I got a 2 fingered salute when I slammed on my horn. Since these lights have been operational I have noticed more drivers turning right at this junction.
  11. You do not know how you would react in the same situation. When I was mugged getting into my car at Sainsburys DKH some years ago I ran after the guy who jumped into his car and punched him in the face and hung on to the steering wheel trying to force him to stop. Police asked me why as an 'elderly person' I did this - I said I did it as I was so angry that he had dared to take my bags.
  12. have been trying to post something in lounge section for 2 days now asking whether married women who use maiden/single names are having problems with electoral register. Lounge will not accept post
  13. On Tuesday afternoons at Christ Church Barry Road there is a singing group for people with breathing problems. Has been running for about 4 weeks or so,
  14. ground floor of the hotel was originally a shop. Not really a hotel more of a cheap hostel. Very small rooms
  15. My youngest daughter had the chance of applying for one of the last assisted places scheme at a private school but refused to allow me to apply. years later she confessed that she was afraid that she may 'fail' and that there would be too much pressure put on her by the school. She went to ordinary secondary school and then onto University My husband had private education from 7 - 18 including a boarding school and private 'crammer'. He was classed as exceptionally bright but ended up having a breakdown at 19 partially due to the pressure from school and crammer to do well, and misplaced worry that he was wasting his parents money if he was not a high achiever. My friend's daughter went to St. Dunstans from the age of 5 and did exceptionally well. However my friend was shocked at all the 'extras' apart from the fees and cost of uniform. All of her monthly salary went to paying for the education, she was really glad she only had one child.
  16. This has been a topic for years - unfortunately it is TFL who are the feet draggers in this instance, they feel that traffic flow is more important than lives.
  17. Just being dealing with a guy who had a collapsed ceiling, hole in floor, no hot water, electrics partially working, exposed wires, unhygienic kitchen and bathroom, damp and mould. Most of the damage had been caused by council contractors who have over past few months installed new water tanks (which both leaked and caused collapse), Wiring was being replaced so they removed floor boards after cutting a hole in his carpet and then disappeared for last 3 months. The guy was placed in hospital by Police and LAS as they feared for his and carers safety in the property. Hopefully, the work will commence again next week after several of us contacted Housing and he is to be rehoused in temp accommodation whilst the work is completed.
  18. I must admit I keep my trolley right next to me as have seen unattended trolleys go walkies. Sometimes it is a simple mistake and the shopper realises that they have taken the wrong trolley.
  19. Is your aunt still being seen by a MacMillan or Palliative Care Nurse or is her cancer being monitored by GP?. Some years ago a client was living in appalling conditions and his MacMillan/Palliative Nurse (from St. Christopher's Hospice), wrote a letter to Southwark Council and also made several phone calls to Housing Department and got urgent repairs done in less than a week. A letter to the local papers also seem to help in some cases especially with an election coming up.
  20. I have to use cash offices in my work. We frequently have to get additional fob keys for Southwark Housing Properties for our clients - have to pay at the Walworth Road cash Office, get receipt before taking to HO to get fob. On the Kingswood Estate, you either have to go to the Walworth Road office first or purchase a Postal Order at the Kingswood PO which costs another couple of pounds.
  21. A comment we often use in my work place with medical staff who are not 'co operating' or failing to respond/act is. That ' when I have to compile a report to the coroners office- I will have to mention your response.....' Very often gets a response quickly
  22. My daughter has to provide her own food for her little one who is a year old. It would seem that most child minders in Sussex ask parents to provide the food for under 2/3 year olds. They are happy to heat up/cook. Little one goes 3 days a week and I suppose the good thing is that you know what your child is eating
  23. The Chadwick Road surgery seems a little more organised even though it come under DMC
  24. I was asked to refer one of my clients to a local GP as he was not registered with a GP so I suggested 306 Lordship Lane. I explained to my client that although their home was nearer to DMC, they would actually be able to get an appointment easier with 306. Receptionist at 306 LL was very helpful and advised that as long as people had an SE22 post code they could apply to be registered there.
