The reason for the posting is that with grants being cut to organisations which provide counselling etc throughout the country, many of them are looking at new ways of raising money to pay staff and rental costs, ( in this instance a 50% rent increase of a building which the organisation has had for over 20 years) The Government has asked local councils to take on the responsibility of preventative health measures to save NHS money, and it is mainly local or community based organisations that will be tendering for a small pot of cash. Large firms and local councils already have contracts with companies providing counselling for their employees, but this is not a luxury that smaller firms can offer. Free counselling services are hard to come by and usually have a long waiting lists. GPs can offer short term counselling with a dedicated counsellor, but again not all GPs have this facility. Most counselling organisations i.e. Relate, are based on income (of the couple) although some have a sliding scale fee system.

Professional dog walkers a menace
Pugwash replied to Ben Reeve-Lewis's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think with unemployment or zero hours contracts, many people are turning to dog walking as a source of income (untaxed?) If I recall, many people are paying ?10 a day or more so 5 dogs ?50 and if another 5 are walked later in the day - ?100 per day is a good income especially with no deductions. I have taken out 2 dogs at a time (my own) and at times that can prove challenging. Should dog walkers have insurance so if any of their charges are involved in incidences, claims can be made against them. -
we have a dropped kerb and this was there when we purchased house in 1974. Being on a main road and bus route you can imagine a high volume of traffic. With careful parking you can get 2 cars on the 'drive' which is concrete/tarmac but has earth and bushes either side to absorb water. Until 2/3 years ago, visitors could either park in front of our drive or in the drive (by prior arrangement). Council put double yellow lines in front of the house so none of our visitors can park.

the idea would be that an employee may not be willing to pay say ?20 for a session but if a small business concern an employer faced with having a member of staff off work for 2/3 weeks may feel it financially viable to contribute in order to get person back to work.

Just floating this idea to see what other people feel. Most large organisations offer counselling sessions for their employees and pay for a set number of sessions. Small concerns with only a limited number of staff usually do not have the funds to offer this facility. If there was a organisation you could contact if an employee needed counselling i.e. bereavement/divorce/trauma etc which offered counselling at a reasonable price with say employer and employee each paying 50% of costs would this interest you? It could possibly save you some statutory sick pay, time off work etc. There are bereavement services out there but usually a waiting list, a private counsellor could cost anything from ?45 per 45 minutes or more. I am just floating this idea to see if it has any appeal and what employers/employees would consider a reasonable rate. I must stress, such counselling would come from a properly registered and recognised organisation

My grand daughter did Kumon Maths in Orpington whilst she was in primary school - did it for about a year. Benefited a lot from it and her maths at school improved, This improvement continued in secondary school and she was placed in 'exceptionally bright' stream at secondary school for maths, which she put down to the Kumon teaching.

reception staff at The Gardens Surgery
Pugwash replied to Anna D's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have been with this surgery years and never experienced any thing but good service, they went over board to fix me an appointment when some lab results came back and my GP asked them to call me with an appointment. Most of them call me by name, the surgery nurses are friendly and helpful and the new doctors I have met are very approachable. -
Is he exceptionally bright? I have had experience in the past with emotionally variable child who was in all appearances, coping well at school (Junior) but all over the place at home. I worked with educational psychologists and got an appointment with the schools psychologist, much to the Head's annoyance. It was discovered that my daughter was very bright with IQ several years above her chronological age. behaviour was put down to frustration at not being given mentally challenging work, she knew there would be trouble if played up in class, so took it out at home

My Hotmail account appears to have changed to Outlook and I found this morning that all my e mail contacts lists have disappeared . Since I am secretary of a organisation and also a charity Trustee - I have around 80 people who I contact on a regular basis I have tried going into People but nothing is listed, A friend had a similar experience and retrieved his email list quite by accident but cannot recall how he did it. Can anyone who is more computer savvy than me advise? Thanks I have Windows 7 if that makes any difference, I had Windows 10 which was awful and I paid an expert to get rid of it.

Does your mother have support from a Palliative Care Nurse? If so talk to them or even your mother's GP. Under normal circumstances this would be classed as a Safeguarding Adults incident re emotional abuse. You say that your mother and her partner own the house, do you know this for certain and the basis of the ownership, i.e whether it is tenants in common? In one sort of ownership the property passes automatically to the joint owner, in other cases your mother's share would go to her next of kin (if she has not made a will) he sounds an absolute bxxxxxd. Do you know which church she went to and could you or your sister contact the vicar My Mum died 3 years ago and lingered for 10 days having been advised that once she came off her dialysis machine it would be 2- 3 days, I know how you are feeling. We were with Mum from 9am to 8 pm daily at St. Christopher's Hospice

Ideas for books for 12 year old boy
Pugwash replied to BellendenBear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
David Walliams' books. -
I would mention it to the police and give a description as most adults would not ask a child for directions especially if an adult was nearby.

Best Way is go past kings, take right into De Crespigney Park, tuen left at top into Grove Lane, go down to the bottom towards the pub on left and it is either the turning before or after pub which then leads into the care park

HSBC Dulwich Branch Is Closing
Pugwash replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
having had dealings with Barclays in relation to a couple of business accounts where I was a signatory, I do not relate them highly. I was tipped off some years ago that a man in my organisation forged my signature on a letter stating that I had resigned as a signatory to an account, then filled in forms in my name to remove me from the account. What this guy did not know that the mandate was in my legal and professional name which was different from my married name and he put the wrong name on. I complained in person to Barclays and asked that the Police be informed of this fraud but they refused and would not admit their mistake. Barclays also lost all the paperwork I had to complete as an attorney under a EPA relating to my father's accounts -and it took 4 months to reinstate the ?5000 plus they had put into a 'general fund' -
Charles Booth poverty map notes for East Dulwich area
Pugwash replied to ed_pete's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I lived in Spurling Road from 1950 = 1969 - our rented property had no bathroom, no hot water system, poor electrical wiring, and one outside loo for 2 families, water running down the walls from the flat roof. Party of the street was designated for 'slum clearance' as houses were in poor condition. Never happened and they are all still standing! -
HSBC Dulwich Branch Is Closing
Pugwash replied to Dulwich Born And Bred's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My father used to bank in Nat West where he lived in Sussex, it operated 5 days a week, heavily used as most of the year several thousands of visitors used the cash point as 2 large holiday camps nearby. It then went to opening only 3 days a week and in the last year closed completely. As an attorney for Father's finances I had to produce various documents to the bank on a regular basis. It was 9 miles to the nearest Nat West - a 45 minute bus journey and 10 minute walk. They suggested I used the nearest London branch in future. Earlier this year, I tried to pay a cheque into my Dad's account using the Camberwell Green branch, the cashier also could not pay it in and having checked with her computer, suggested that went back to his branch in Sussex in person to sort out the problem as this had to be a face to face discussion and transaction. It is all very good closing a branch but at times you have to have a face to face discussion with bank staff. When they (HSBC) transferred some of the banking facilities to Peckham, I was not able to make an initial appointment and waited an hour to be seen by one of their advisors. Fortunately I was able to complete and sign all the necessary paperwork at that trip. I was advised that the earliest appointment they could give me for any follow up queries was 4 weeks later - I did not bother with that as meant taking time off work at a very busy time. Fortunately everything went smoothly. The Peckham branch is always busy even on a Saturday. I do not use on line banking and never will. -
Our grand daughter wanted to go for a meal out with a small group of friends. She choose the restaurant, her Mum booked it and checked out prices and then gave her daughter the money to pay for meal. They also had a sleepover and spent the night watching DVDS and eating crisps etc. My 16th was do long ago I cannot remember how I celebrated. Vague memory of youngest daughter wanting to see Mama Mia (stage version) with a friend then going for a meal in Soho with her friend, sister, Dad and myself for her 16th.
