Thoughts on buying in the Dog Kennel Hill estate...
Pugwash replied to tigerlily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have posted about this before. It may be cheap and roomy and you have good neighbours etc. If you can afford to put by a few thousand each year for 'repairs' ok,in the long run you could lose money -
Living in Barry Road, I drive to work daily down to either Underhill or Upland junctions before I turn off. This week I was waiting patiently behind a bus just past the Goodrich junctions, I could see it was indicating to go, some silly prat behind me obviously thought I was just idling and decides to overtake both me and the bus just pulling out, forces a car travelling from the opposite direction to pull up sharply, cut in front of the bus who also pulls in sharply, waving his fists ( yes it was a he) at me and mouthing something. What was his problem, had he just waited a few seconds all this rage would not have been necessary. Unfortunately idiots like this - no end of traffic calming measures would change their behaviour regardless whether 20 or 30 mph limits

There are people who sometimes deliberately set out to discredit a general post, We are all individuals with our own options. It is good to express an opinion but one must do it in away not to upset/offend/outrage others. I have had a few negative feedbacks - so what, it does not put me off posting here. It is a great forum. I do not post on Twitter and Facebook ( basically I am IT challenged) so this is my 'sounding box'

Jean Halden, Katie Morley Chris Budashi ( not sure now to spell this Polish surname) Currently run by Jane -
My daughter organised a morning birthday party for her son when he was little - 10 - 12 noon. very basic food a couple of games and bye bye. You could reduce it down to 1.5 hours if 2 hours is unbearable. Obviously you can only do this at weekends or in holidays. Having one child's birthday on 31st Jan and another on 2nd Feb with 13 years age difference, we had to be inventive. Eldest daughter opted to celebrate her birthday during the May half term and we took around 6 girls out to Margate and Dreamland (Shows you how long ago this was) for the day. Eldest daughter roped in a couple of friends and took charge of her little sister's birthday - all we had to do was supply the food. Strangely enough my grand daughter was born on the 1st Feb and is sandwiched between her Mum and Aunt. This year we took everyone to see the Buddy Holly story at Bromley including 3 of grand daughter's friends. Then all out for a meal afterwards. It gets easier as they get older!

For all of you who did not make the meeting with our local Police on Tuesday here are a few facts. Burglary is the most common crime in ED mainly because of the high proportion of rented and multi occupied properties as landlords are not fitting secure locks. High proportion of housing stock still have wooden sash windows and doors and are single glazed which are easily broken into. Majority of the burglaries take place during day light as Dulwich has a large number of working people. There are 38 neighbourhood Watch schemes in East Dulwich. Recent burglaries have been in the Barry Road/Silvester Road areas. Our Safer Neighbourhood Team would welcome more enquiries from residents wishing to set up Neighbourhood Watches and have lots of gadgets which can help deter burglars i.e alarm which can be fixed to windows

I have been asked to put this plea out for Chloe by her former Brown Owl Jean Halden of 8th East Dulwich Brownie Pack which meets at Christ Church Barry Road ( Formerly the Emmanuel Church) Chloe attended a pack holiday between 13th - 19th August 1994. She also painted a beautiful plate as a present for Jean's Retirement from Guiding in 1996. The 8th East Dulwich Brownies are having a small reunion celebration on Sat 22nd Nov 3 - 5 pm at Christ Church Barry Road and would like this invitation to get to Chloe and any other 'old Brownies'.

Review of local polling stations, including Heber School
Pugwash replied to redjam's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Having been a teller at Heber, Community Centre and Christ Church over the years, depending on the turnout, the busiest periods are usually around 5 - 10 pm. I was at the community centre a few years ago when the last voter ran in at 9.50 and just managed to cast his vote by 9.59 due to the number of people queuing to get their ballot paper. All polling stations are to be accessible for prams and wheelchairs, offer toilets and kitchen facilities to staff. I am not sure if St. Johns and St Clements in Friern/Barry Road could become one for Goodrich. What about the Townley Road Clinic?, The Baptist Church in Barry Road? -

Both of my daughters and myself went to the 8th East Dulwich Brownie pack which still meets in Christ Church. I remember having to make a fire up with alternating wood, paper and coal in someone's house in Barry Road and having to make fairy cakes cannot remember what my girls had to do for their Home maker badges.

When my daughter wanted to join the Brownies. the pack that met at her school, St. Anthony's, had a long waiting list, so she joined the one based at Christ Church which did not have a waiting list. Father O Connor had a go at my husband (who is Catholic) as to why he permitted her to attend a non catholic pack. We were surprised as we never acquainted scouts/cubs/brownies/guides with religion and just assumed that most packs met in church halls

My grandchildren when little loved dips (cream cheese and chive) hummus, with breadsticks, crisps, carrot sticks, sliced cucumber, red peppers. Rarely ate sandwiches at parties as had them for packed lunches. Cubes of cheese were another favourite. bananas, Satsuma segments, apple slices etc - if you want to splash out have a chocolate dip.

Some may be in the car park - this morning there was around 12 cars waiting turn to get into the car park blocking the access road for considerable time. the parking wardens are always on the prowl around Kings several times a day and will ticket blue badge holders if they go over their allocated time. I saw one car with a wheel lock on it despite the blue badge and clock.
