Theft on Lordship Lane, easy target Mum with buggy
Pugwash replied to busymum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
bags in supermarket trolleys - the times I see women leave their bags on the trolley, just turning to get that fruit juice off the shelf gives a thief time to grab and run -
I think there is an Eid event on the Rye this weekend - that will probably upset a few people

Needle Exchange and Pharmacy - there will be a public meeting at the ED Community Centre re this organised by Jonathan Mitchell - I cannot remember the time so will put up another post tomorrow. Gumboots Nursery have been informed and they will be notifying their parents etc. -
Hubby took a book back weeks ago and kept getting letters stating it was overdue. Went into library and informed them already returned. They thought it may have not been booked back in my the assistant. he took out more books, when he returned them, was asked again about the original book - fine mounting up, again explained already returned. Advised assistant what previous assistant had stated, again told they would check it out. Last week same thing happened- fed up hubby decided to pay fine for a book he did not have - I believe he said it was ?13 plus I was annoyed, if it had been me I would have looked for book on shelf firstly ( he gets out obscure books my hubby) and then ask them to do a more through check on the computor.

I suspect that the DMC doctors etc are still involved as Directors of a pharmacutical company and this is a quick way to rake in more money. It would be more appropriate to have a late night pharmacy opening up in an existing concern in North Cross Road or LL. At the last needle exchange public meeting local pharmacists stated that they would willingly operate a late night opening on a rota basis. It does seem odd to have a pharmacy in a portacabin ( if I have read the thread correctly) this would be less secure and attract those who want to get a few uppers/downers or whatever they are called. Come off the needles and you are welcome to break in to our portacabin for alternative drugs.

There is more of a hold up from the roundabout through to ED station. With the parking bays outside the school traffic is being held up more whilst people reverse etc into these spaces. Also the extended pavement in some places mean that 2 large vehicles can not pass each other. If there is a bus at the Elsie Road stop 9/10 times a car cannot overtake so a build up. Equally some extra build up by Melbourne Grove -
we too have stayed with the Halifax for over 30 years as houses each side of me have had subsidence and although we do not have any (touch wood) Barry Road with all it's trees is a 'high risk area'. Our neighbour had trouble getting his insurance to pay out several thousands of pounds in costs and took him a good 6 - 9 months and he was a solicitor. I think we have to pay the first ?1000 of any claim, if we changed we would need to pay ?3 - ?5 K

From the last campaign - it was discovered that many of those involved in the DMC who wanted to open the pharmacy were in fact Directors of a Pharmacutical Company whose business address was in Bedddington Lane Croydon. Searches made via Company House found that several of the Doctors in DMC had various businesses throughout London. The search was made by one of the previous campaign workers who was a lawyer and she unearthed some very intresting information. Company House also notified the campaign group for upto a year later whenever a Director was changed in the Pharmacutical Company - but the majority of the links lead back to DMC. It was thought at the time that if the Pharmacy was opened at DMC, their own company would be used to supply medication etc, and when you work out the costings along each stage of the supply and purchasing trail, would net in thousands of ?s per year for the directors/owners etc of DMC and Pharmacutical Company. It would be interesting to see if the same people are named for both organisations

A friend informed me today that whilst she was at Church a couple of weeks ago, her handbag, phone and car keys were stolen She was sitting on a chair with bag across back of chair and her coat fully coveringthe chair back and bag. A man and woman came in who she had not seen before so she was a little suspicious, they talked to a couple of other people who were in the church at the time about purchasing a religious book, but left. A few minutes later she noticed the bag had gone. Police called who assisted her in phoning her bank etc as she was quite flustered as her reading glasses had been stolen as well. Phoned her husband from the church to advise him. Within a few minutes he rang back and advised that a cheque had been presented at a branch about 15 mins drive away which aroused suspicion of the bank clerk who rang her home. Talking to other people she found that there had been thefts from St. Thomas More Church during the services - people leaving their bags to take communinion and finding them gone on their return. So if you are a church goer or attend groups etc in a church - beware not everyone attending is 'god fearing'

One cat prefers our bed, the oldest the kitchen floor or if warm outside on the patio with sometimes cat number 2 for company. The black and white one kitchen stool or on top of the garden table. All use the cat flap. The stray tabby (nicknamed Bill by hubby) who has been visiting us for the past year or so for food and shelter, likes the dining room table!! Our cats are usually found in our garden overnight.

Pugwash replied to Strawbs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We had a similiar experience a few weeks ago when hubby was alerted by one of our cats bolting out of the kitchen, hubby, also in the kitchen, moved a couple of feet and saw a complete strangers staring at him from the dining room. he had broken through a lean to door, smashed an internal glass door and walked through the house. Lucky for us this same guy had entered another house further down Barry Road ( they had builders in at the time) and had been disturbed and done a runner. The police already had been called as he also attempted to get into another house 2 doors away. Hubby remembered seeing police outside our house a few minutes earlier and went out side to get them and around 10 police officers and a dog charged into the house to arrest him. He was too drunk to do anything and was later charged with burglary and got a suspended sentence. -

Kingsdale School makes the news again

My friend works as a Lab technican and her school (failing) was taken over by Harris. Everyone had to reapply for their own jobs and were told that unless they met 80% of the criteria they would be given 4 weeks notice, no redundancy pay etc. My friend has been working at the school for last 19 years and has with her senior colleague developed the wild life garden and nature area which she tends during the school holidays in her own time. One of the criteria she had to meet was teaching in the class room, which as technican was not her role ( she prepared for all the experiements etc). To get round this criteria, we realised that the nature garden was visited regularly by local primary school children, who frequently asked her about the plants and wild life and she gave information and advice how to grow things. We interpreted this as an outdoor classroom to meet the criteria, and since she is still working, we assume she met the 80% goal. She however reports that many of the teachers are unhappy the way Harris runs the school ( these are good teachers who have the respect of the kids and know their subject) and have handed in their notice. From the school gossip - it would appear that the turnover for staff in academies is generally very high as is the rate of sickness. -
I think the problem you will find is that of space. There is a general shortage of space in ED which is toddler friendly. Also meeting the various operating criteria of OFSTEAD and other bodies. Unless you want to do this as a businss - it could take some months to organise

Having read the planning link (see First Mateas' entry above) I am further in understanding the complications which will arrive from the approval of an M & S store. All those people in favour should have a good read of this link to see that any change in size of the store and the implications of additional residential accommodation would have a dramatic effect on local residents. I suppose if you want your daily life disrupted from 6 am to late evening by the arrival of refridgerated lorries on daily basis, Your car bashed in as lorries try to negotiate a tight turn in to the delivery yard. . build up of traffic in LL as motorists try to reverse out of Chesterfield as road is blocked by lorries, your and your children's lives put at risk by lorries mounting the pavements as road is too narrow.................!!. Even driving a family size car out of Iceland's car park is tricky due to the poor visability, the angle you need to swing out onto the road, means you can easily meet an oncoming vehicle who is travelling too fast for the road. I have never been in favour of having an M & S or a Waitrose in ED - although I agree that their goods are generally of a high quality, the costs for the most part are outside most people's reach. I do feel M & S sandwiches and their meal packages ( Dine in for ?10) are good value, but the majority of it's food products are over price. When my mother was alive, she asked me to find out whether M & S did an asparagus soup - they did but at ?1.50 a tin ( this was about 3 years ago) it was way beyond an OAP budget.

What ever you do, don't allow the kids to advertise it on Facebook etc. A samll private teenage party at a local venue ended up having Noise Enforcement and Police attending as the youngsters had spoken about it on facebook, and it went from about 40 kids to nearly 200 turning up. The parents organising the party were forced to abort the event half way through, and lost their deposit for the hall and were asked to pay for the damages incurred to the premises by angry teenagers who were forced to leave. I think this is why so many venues are apprehensive. many hiring agreements state that events for under 18s need to be supervised by appropriate number of adults over a certain age. Pubs may not hire out their halls/rooms as they would not get any money from sale of drinks. Some schools will hire out their halls.

Missing Elderly Man from Nunhead
Pugwash replied to Peckhamgatecrasher's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So sorry to hear the sad news, but I am glad that you received so many offers of help both practical and emotional. It is at times like this, one's faith in the general goodness of other people's hearts and actions, is restored. At an age where money and self gratification is so rife, it is good to know that most people are basically kind and selfless. -
I started with one and then met my husband who had a child 2 years younger then mine, who we had weekends and holidays. We then had our daughter. Between the eldest and youngest is 13 years and 11 years with the middle one. All girls - we now have one daughter with 4 children aged 2 - 18, one daughter with a 13 and 8 year old and one not yet started on a family.
