  2. My gut says to call this terrorism flatters it and gives it political justification to some extent. To me this is just pointless nihilistic violence, it's murder. It's kicking someone to death because they're a goth with pierced lips, or homosexual walking home from vauxhall, or running a cyclist over because they don't pay road tax. The cheap bullshit political claptrap whilst narcissistically posturing for the cameras suggest a degree of sociopathy to me. Boring thoughts aside my heart goes out to the family of the chap killed, utterly horrific.
  3. Ooh dobbie *rubs thighs vigorously*
  4. wrong thread ;)
  5. William Mandella - The Forever War
  6. ?Also what?s the deal with pedestrian crossings? I never stop at them because they?re stupidly at a right angle to the traffic flow, it?s so illogical.? this.
  7. Sophie, Mark's long suffering sort of girlfriend, in Peep Show
  8. yep, yep, with you on that.
  9. This assumes there is a right side somewhere, or in some lovecraftian eldridtch topography there is a wronger side to all the rest of them, but wrong side of the bed this morning woody? ;-P
  10. It's funny, every time this debate comes up, I start from a point of protecting the vulnerable from most to least ie starting at pedestrian, through cyclist, motorcylist, up the ranks from car to van etc. And then I finish reading the thread with almost no sympathy for cyclists whatsoever. Congrats lads, another fine thread. But yeah, hyperbole apart this thread could be summed up as 'rational folk agree 'don't be a cunt''
  11. serafina's album The Moths are Real relly is a gem! Anyway, got the new National album yesterday and have given it a couple of spins. So far it feels like a familiar pair of slippers. It doesn't hit the heights of Alligator and High Violet, but it's early doors as High Violet was a slow grower indeed. Also got my hands on The Violence by Darren Hayman and the Long Parliament. I guess a double concept folk album about the witch trials of civil war essex won't be everyone's cup of tea (it may feel many with dread) but it really is a wonderful thing from the beautifully produced packaging complete with contextual hitorical sleeve notes. And the music stands on it's own, Henrietta Maria, a love song from Charles to his wife, a love that literally tore the fabric of the nation in two, is a thing of haunting beauty. Sufjan Stevens would be the closest touch point I can think of. "I cut the british isles in half so you could pray/ did anyone fall so slowly in love as you/ paint my face white/ paint my heart blue/ paint the fields red/ they're bloody for you"

  19. I thought this would be a doddle. Everyone seems to have read little women, did nobody include this in their trawl through the great American novels?
  20. nyet That wasn't a clue I was just bored of 'no'.
  21. here's the giveaway. She obeyed the letter but not the spirit of her punishment.
  22. by the way i did that one week using a python script and I scored 2 points I think
  23. maybe a maxxi should be the lowest score of the week, just to keep them in touch. You need something else there's no incentive to join late or to carry on if you miss a week through illness or holiday. If I do the webapp maybe I'll post randomly generated (from 0-2) scores thirty minutes before kick off if no scores have been entered.
  24. Even closer, she's even more Eve than she is mary magdalene. It's a novel thick with OT and NT allusions, religious imagery and commentary, but it ain't the bible.
  25. very funny!!
