  1. wouldn't surprise me. See also market manipulation. Generally as a rule traders rarely outperform just buying up some bonds and/or tracking the major indices. And in a bull market schoolchildren could make money frankly. Despite ZT's ignorant ramblings, shareholders aren't ripped off, (if they were they'd do something about it) the big wages/bonuses are paid to reassure the shareholders that they have the best men for the job on board, and that they are being successful.
  2. at last, some sense. Bankers getting greedy during booms is purest human nature. We're terrible at risk assessment and are by nature a bit blind when everyone else is making money, and are miserly panickers when things appear to go the other way. Its the whole reason why we have boom and bust in the first place. P{laenty of lessons to be learned, primarily that risk departments and regulatory bodies should not be pressured (by trading managers, board members or indeed governments) as financial hindrances when times are good. But as tre says there are millions of things that investment banks do. If we got rid of them as ZT seems to be suggesting, then we'd just have to reinvent them. How do you think companies raise money for capital investment, how do you think farmers mitigate against currency volatility when planning for the future, by consulting mrs miggins at the high st co-op?

Christ i still love the Smiths, but seriously if anyone my age is listening to them with heartfelt earnestness at the angst of it all, then they deserve a slap, or at least treatment on the NHS.

At 14 is to be encouraged, at 24 its to be tolerated, in your 30s...seriously, grow up. It's the older ones that really annoy. I should add this is not specific to hipsters, a mopey goth who should know better will arch my eyebrows in the same manner
  5. Oh quick warning some sites (including flcikr, i don't know about google+ but it probably does) compress photos when you upload them, so if it's full resolution backup storage you want I'd just do a bit more research if i were you. If you just want somewhere you can access your photos when with friends and family rather than to print a 10' x 6' canvas then you'll be fine.

Is Withnail to blame for it all?
  7. phones probably average around 2-4 mb per picture, so what's that 20ish gb? Not alot in this day and age.
  8. I'm not aware of any limits on google+ I've several thousand images there.
  9. if you're including free house back street boozers and weatherspoons in those averages, then that's probably spot on.

Carnell is also completely vindicated in sporting what might at first glance appear to be hipsterish cultural identifiers. He has of course been wearing them entirely free of irony since he could walk!!!

I have to say I quite enjoyed the whole 'chap' thing when it kicked off, what, 10, 15 years ago? Drinking gin and being silly. It does become somewhat unnerving when it becomes a uniform to follow slavishly, i always found that sort of thing disturbing to be fair. The closest I've ever got to that is probably a penchant for over-sized wolly jumpers when i was 17, a useful cultural badge when attempting to drunkenly paw at cute goth girls down the local pub.
  12. i used to, but can't see anything compelling about the paid service now you can access all your photos again.

I've posted this before, but I rather liked it, an open letter to hipsters http://potlatch.typepad.com/weblog/2011/03/an-open-letter-to-the-hipsters.html
  14. google+ auto backs up phone photos too if you so wish.
  15. I imagine, in short, most of them. The Gowlett have inastalled a telly for the bog competitions in the past, I'm sure the EDT will be showing the games and a host of other places. Its a pity Hoopers have gone, have very fond memories of their early morning world cup bacon sarnies during the rugby world cup.
  16. Paranormal activity would be the obvious explanation.
  17. better than here. 30 bloody euro for sim only!?!?!
  18. have you thought about a contract? you can get them for about 12 quid a month
  19. do you have insurance as part of the package? I actually cancelled a contract and the insurance continued until i complained. got a full refund, but still...

But i actually meant I thought i was still looking around brixton, i hadn't realised it was a different bit of london.
  21. I have no issue with the blow in bit, i aimlessly wandered in to a chunk of london I'd never really heard of (i thought I was still in brixton), 14 years later I left. It's the aspirational ersatz clapham that riles.

precis "the players were cunts and so were some of the fans. Gis a job please somebody"
  23. hardly a great set of definitions, just a couple of made up perosnal stories which reveal your world view rather than shining a light on any semblance of reality. And nice broad brush stroke with wealthy-ish; presumably somewhere between 'has a moobile phone' to 'has a chelsea tractor'? I don't even know what 'aspirational uni-educated' means, most of the people I went to university with were a uselss bunch with no particular ambition at all, oh wait, that's me I'm describing ;)
  24. can we get exact definitons of these strata please louisa?
