  1. The quality of life in London is going downhill imho- I can't remember the last time I got a seat on the tube or get on a bus without shoving my way on...living abroad is very rapidly becoming very attractive to me
  2. Whatever happened to the FIDO machine or was it in Lewisham- little silver tank driven around like a big vacuum cleaner hoovering up the excrement- should make the nozzle bigger and hoover up the human excrement that lets it's pooch leave the excrement on the pavement....
  3. Buddy can you Spare a Dime- Rudy Vallee
  4. Why don't they all convert to Orthodox Judaism and then they would HAVE to walk (and live in Stamford Hill and environs)!
  5. Went to the one in Streatham about 25 years ago because we took the kids to the ice rink as a birthday treat. Had some sort of awful dry cinnamon doughnut and a cup of 'tea'. Never been in one since, BK sweet chili chicken wrap is ok and their 5 bean burger (do they still doit?) without the cheese. I wonder why the McD in Forest Hill shut down and why no others have?
  6. Jeyes Fluid is still legal and very effective. Gets rid of moss too. Large containers in B and Q
  7. Vault of Membros- Disma
  8. My sister in law had a dropped kerb put in and it cost her ?300 in LB Lewisham in 1983- dread to think what it costs now. Maybe the council can use these things as a cash cow.
  9. Black Friday- Steely Dan
  10. Yes it was North Wales- forgot to add it was January. Mind you the Co-Op in Maentawrg (sp.?) was scary because these middle aged women with headscarves kept looking at us and speaking in Welsh and laughing- the 'are you local' Tubs and Edward sketch in the League of Gentleman reminded me of it....
  11. So the East Europeans are not getting enough work hanging around B and Q and Wickes' car parks for odd jobs so they are resorting to this. And, flower, how can you have a gentle conversation with a fellow human being when they don't speak the lingo (unless it's 'want dvd ?2')?
  12. We are also being fined by the EU to the tune of a quarter of a million a day for not obeying rules. We regularly get fined by the EU because our carbon emissions exceed certain levels- (impossible to comply with the latter given the increase in population and hence traffic and burning of other fossil fuels to provide energy) This is partly a result of free movement of people throughout the EU and we had one of the highest population densities (with the Netherlands) before the free movement. The more I learn about all this the more Kafkaesque it becomes.
  13. I have since found out that if you work in a faith school then you could be dismissed if you did anything outside your working hours to undermine that faith. The film 'Franklin' shows the absurdity of religion.
  14. Kwikfit are great and they do things for free and no catch- Ray is a diamond geezer imho
  15. As a scientist, I would rather read Scientific American or Nature- New Scientist is pop science.
  16. Getting stuck ( with a friend which makes all the difference) in the middle of the night on a hillside next to Trawsfynedd power station trying to hitch hike and realising no-one was coming. Pitch dark, no torch, food or drink.
  17. Rainy Day Women Number 12 and 35- Bob Dylan
  18. That sounds sensible since the hospitals have a full quota of security staff and cctv should anything kick off. We are far too lax over the drugs problem in this country- Bali seems to have the right idea
  19. Use some Lazer Light ear plugs if it's Friday or Saturday night. If it's a school/work night get the noise patrol.
  20. I agree with BigED having tried umpteen different ways that is the route that gets you nearest to Goodrich without having to walk far.

There are too many people in London- you never get a seat on the tube or the bus, people are always pushing in queues and are increasingly behaving in an aggressive manner. And caz6868 it is very contagious. What sort of chips SJ?- they still serve the same stuff- wine etc
  22. The Tories are always scuppered by the Scots constituencies- the last 2 general elections would have been Tory majorities if it was not for the inclusion of the Scots MPs. What adds insult to injury is that they get a vote on our policies and influence what goes on in England but English MPs have no influence over theirs! The SNP did badly in the last Election because there was tactical voting by the Scots electorate to try to keep Labour in and therefore keep Gordon Brown in and protect their own interests- ie by getting more money diverted from England (especially the SE) into Scotland.

I took my son to a concert at the Festival Hall. It was Igor Oistrakh's 70th birthday and my son was about 15 and it was his first visit. As we went through a door a middle-aged man dressed in dinner suit and bow tie and his wife also dressed up let the door go right in our faces- reality check!
  24. The Burning Red- Machine Head
  25. They are probably scared stiff of taking any of these people off the street because several people have died in police custody under the same circumstances ie mental health problems. The police tread a fine line and there are many who just go for the jugular- and at the same time they want protection- the cops, unfortunately, are damned if they do and damned if they don't!
